  1. just an idea !

    i have problems , in same network, same IP range , with computers with XP_PRO_SP2 and others with XP_PRO_SP1 . SP2's computers view each other , SP1's also , but nothing between SP1's and SP2's . solve with SP2 everywhere .

    also problems i have with computers with XP_PRO_SP1 registered in a W2kserver_domain after an update with SP2 . that i solve with re_registration on the domain.

  2. ...Norton Will defected that it has been tampered with and LOCK down...

    ...Pls View the Guide in Make NIS2005 silent and 7zip Method to NIS2005 for more information.

    @astalavista , I follow your way (NIS2005) for NIS 2004 (I post that in your thread of NIS2005) , and work all well. Just like you said (only a name of a file was changed in NIS2004 from NIS2005).

    But , i extract in <<VirusDef>> folder , the content of <<VIRSCAN.ZIP>> ,

    not the content of the <<file (20050516-022-i32.exe)>> and all works ok for me

    with NIS2004 , and also NAV2003. Nothing tampered there ! All work fine including LiveUpdate . So , I suppose NIS2005 particulary has this problem.

    BTW , if in the SFX archive , I make :

    <<Path=%programfiles%\>> instead of <<PAth=c:\windows\Program File>>

    can work ?

    I found a customer with XP in G: drive !

    also today I make PowedDVD 6 trial silent . very nice post , I make it from first hand . thanks for that.

  3. so(rry) : replace the mainboard . you need a mainboard with 166MHz FSB for your sempron .

    normally the place where you buy the sempron might to advice you for that !

    if you buy a new mobo , you can try to change the sempron with a 939pins version with PCI x16 express on video .

  4. I use XP_PRO_SP2 . for a fresh install uA or not , if you have a radeon card , xp_SP2 have a driver

    for you (microsoft signed) .

    that works well and can be ok for an office computer .

    but if you want install a new driver you can do this but cannot works.

    because after a new reboot is not all rights there , and you have to (as only solution) roll back to microsoft driver .

    if use before that CATALYST Uninstaller is very very ok no problems with

    any catalyst version you want to install.

    but this delete all the traces of any drivers . so i believe (i am not sure) , without drivers (after catalyist uninstaller) we cannot have <<MMC and Remote Wonder>> because all that are related to the calalyst drivers .

    sure we can have Control Panel/Control Center>> if they are included in the catalyst package, after install of the package .

    am am very happy with the new 5.4 version.

    anyone , test the omega drivers ???!

  5. A new Non-Critical XP SP2 Update:

    ...............

    Windows XP TV tuner program stops responding .....

    God !

    before SP2 i have problems with MSI 8606.

    excellent tvtunner, my opinion .

    but in some configs , especially intels P4 , moving between

    channels => complete FREEZE of the computer .

    only one solution : hardware reset . money back some customers ....

    will help me this patch ?

  6. maybe help you , maybe some other people

    i need once , and i found this somewhere in the net . sorry for the author , i save the article then and not the link.

    Appendix A: Partition System Types

    Each partition and logical drive has a system type which is recorded in the partition table. The system type tells the PC what the partition is used for, that is, what type of filesystem it has. DOS/Windows and Windows NT use the system type at boot time to determine which partitions / drives they can read. Linux ignores the system type; partitions and drives are explicitly mounted.

    The system types relevant to this article are:

    6: DOS FAT and Windows 95 VFAT

    7: Windows NT NTFS and OS/2 HPFS

    a: OS/2 Boot Manager

    82, 83: Linux (82 for swap, 83 for filesystem)

    A system type of zero means the partition is unused.

    Appendix B: Example BOOT.INI File

    BOOT.INI tells the Windows NT Loader which options to present to the user. The BOOT.INI file I use for Windows NT / 2000 dual boot is included below as an example.

    [boot loader]timeout=5

    ; default=signature(9e428d39)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(9)\WINNT

    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT

    [operating systems]

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Windows NT" /sos

    signature(9e428d39)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(9)\WINNT="Windows 2000" /sos /fastdetect

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Windows NT [VGA mode]" /basevideo /sos

    signature(9e428d39)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(9)\WINNT="Windows 2000 [VGA mode]" /sos /fastdetect /basevideo

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINNT="RECOVERY: Partition 1" /sos

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(2)\WINNT="RECOVERY: Partition 2" /sos

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(3)\WINNT="RECOVERY: Partition 3" /sos

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(4)\WINNT="RECOVERY: Partition 4" /sos

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(5)\WINNT="RECOVERY: Partition 5" /sos

    The [boot loader] section defines the timeout (in seconds) before the default operating system loads. The # is a comment; the commented-out line is what I would use to make Windows NT the default operating system instead of Windows 95.

    The [operating systems] section defines the choice of operating systems which the NT Loader can boot. Each line specifies an operating system to load, using what is called "ARC notation". For IDE disks this looks like the following:

    multi(m)disk(0)rdisk(n)partition(p)\directory=menutext

    where

    m is the number of the IDE channel (the first channel is number 0)

    n is the disk number on that channel (the first disk is number 0)

    p is the partition number on that disk (the first partition is number 1)

    directory is the top-level directory of the operating system

    menutext is the description which appears in the NT Loader menu.

    For SCSI disks, the notation is slightly different. For Windows 2000, a new notation has been introduced. Information on these is available from the Microsoft Knowledge Base website.

    For Windows 95/NT dual boot, the Windows 95 entry just looks like this:

    C:\="Windows 95"

    The RECOVERY lines are there in case I restructure my disk and forget to alter BOOT.INI beforehand.

  7. Sempron work with 166MHz mainboard FSB .

    Duron with 100 , Athlon 133, barton 166 .

    your mainboard know about 166 MHz FSB ????!

       if yes , anyway you must make an update of BIOS

    because sempron is a new processor , a light version

    of Athlon MP .

    mainboards with BIOS date 6 month ago do not

    know about sempron processor and need be up to date .

    check the manufacturer site for update .

    if you do not find there a new update for your

    processor , replace the mainboard.

       if no , replace the mainboard .

  8. Intel 865 is now an old chipset , 2 year now, but is the single from old series

    who migrate to LGA775 new socket .

    your processor work well . no problem with ddr400 . you need only

    ddr333 . but is the same price . my and other opinion is : this processor

    ( i sell few) is a full prescott who cannot pass the 800mhz tests . so

    intel sell them as 533mhz w/o HT , because in 2.4ghz generation intel do

    not have 1MB cache L2. this appear with prescott at 2.8GHz (1+ year ago)

    anyway is so cheap and work good.

    buy DDR400 , maybe you can find a double set , if you mobo had dual channel.

    with DDR333 (i think) you cannot find a double set .

  9. @Meiapaul

    if single one file is bad on the CD , if this file is critical, you cannot install XP .

    same thing, if the file is not bad, but the optical can read it correct .

    sp2 problems with bios??? never heard of this.....

    @boooggy

    sorry , but maybe I do not name it so correct.

    if on one PC XP+SP1 pass all , and XP+SP2 cannot install w/o an

    appropriate update of bios ?

    I specify

    (in fact bios problems with SP2 and newest processors)

    in fact

    A)a XP+SP1 CD pass the errors

    B)mobo saw correct the processor but

    probably in back the support for the processor (sempron , celeron D...) was

    not so correct (I think)

    C)same mainboards with bios from 6..12 month , with newest processors

    where believe or not I cannot install XP+SP2 without an update of bios

    (I cannot install with a Sempron but I can install with a Barton on same mainboard)

    D) of course SP2 is not the guilty one but is

    E) not a singular case with my customers in 2004..2005

  10. second step would to be , of course , a test with another optical drive .

    also , for eliminate SP2 problems

    (in fact bios problems with SP2 and newest processors)

    you can try to instal an old XP or XP+SP1 instead XP+SP2

    if work , you need an update bios for your latest processor you have.

  11. after my problems with this kind of stuff

    60% RAM , 30% optical unit , 10% media .

    I'll buy a new ram module tomorrow

    I don’t know if your mobo has dual channel for DDR

    but even if has, will work with a single chip inside

    the probability than you purchase 2 bad chips

    of memory are very low .

    so , you can install/test one at the time your memories.

    do not forget the media problems.

    (edit) cheap price=cheap quality .

  12. Some people like memtest86 but it didn't help with my bad memory chips at all.

    For me , if memtest find some errors , then the memories are bad.

    if don’t find , isn’t relevant , the memories can be god or bad.

    The great test for a machine but most for memories is a complete install of XP without errors .

    with bad memories is possible to install successfully W98SE on a machine , but no with XP .

  13. KB831240 ?? Article ID : 831240 Last Review : August 11, 2004 Revision : 1.0

    this is for XP or XP+SP1 ?

    maybe work the classic combination :

    kb8xxxxx.exe /q /n /z

    or maybe the path is incorrect . when you install your uA_XP_CD

    after the second boot , your files regullary can be in

    %systemdrive%\install\....\WINDOWSUPDATE\...

    other works ?

    can be more specific ?

    ...This tool is great, but i`m missing an "already installed" extension.

    In my mind there`s something like if c:\program files\Nero\Nero.exe exist then extend the ProgramName with "(already installed)" and grey out the checkbox.

    This would be very usefull to me. I know i can use the cond statement to grey out the checkbox but then i don't know why.

    ...thx t2x

    ...I'm wish also a grey checkbox for already installed software. The function to verify for installed software can integrated later...

    ...Freddi

    I ask myself the same question

    I find between various topic some things from some guys (I love you all guys) who help me in this.

    I mention that I use also wpi as autostart program for a cd.

    with a lot of appz and for now with the 19 hotfixes post xp_sp2

    I double the lines for the hotfixes in config.js like

    prog[pn]=['UpDate 05 : KB885836  </font>=><font color="#00FFFF"> INSTALLED</font>']
    uid[pn]=['KB885836_']
    deps[pn]=['QCHAIN']
    desc[pn]=['...']
    cmd1[pn]=['%cdrom%\\Windows\\XP\\XP_UpDates\\SP2_UpDates\\KB885836.exe /Q /O /N /Z']
    cond[pn]=['getOSver()=="XP" && FileExists("%cdrom%\\Windows\\XP\\XP_UpDates\\SP2_UpDates\\KB885836.exe") && FileExists("%windir%\\KB885836.log")']
    cat[pn]=['10) Critical UpDates XP32 post-SP2']
    pn++

    prog[pn]=['UpDate 05 : KB885836 <font color="red">=>  UN<font color="#00FFFF">installed</font>']
    uid[pn]=['KB885836']
    deps[pn]=['QCHAIN']
    desc[pn]=['...']
    cmd1[pn]=['%cdrom%\\Windows\\XP\\XP_UpDates\\SP2_UpDates\\KB885836.exe /Q /O /N /Z']
    cond[pn]=['getOSver()=="XP" && FileExists("%cdrom%\\Windows\\XP\\XP_UpDates\\SP2_UpDates\\KB885836.exe") && !FileExists("%windir%\\KB885836.log")']
    cat[pn]=['10) Critical UpDates XP32 post-SP2']
    pn++

    I have there 2 groups with the same content , but with 2 complementary

    conditions (FileExists and !FileExists=NOT_FileExists) , so only one of those two will be displayed in WPI.

    with two exception KB873374(GDI+) and KB890830(malicious) , the rest of 17 (today) hotfixes make a log like c:\windows\KB8xxxxx.log

    so , if exist the log I display one (with added string "INSTALLED" in caps) , if the log does not exist

    I display the other (with added string "not installed" ) with red_chars.

    I see computers with 1, 3 or only 10 hotfixes installed , not in my order, so this is very helpfull for me . more and more people going to conect to internet. and they don't know what is there ...

    Same thing we can do with c:\program...\nero.exe.

    but I can't know the version . maybe the one installed is very old, or incomplete,

    or damaged.

    so if I do not verify that I can say is ok , and is not so well maybe.

    So now , grey checkbox is not for me a necessity , can be the gray box a good thing !? maybe this depends of the needs.

    Freddi , how can you "read the registry for installed updates, IE and DirectX version..." ?!

  15. first at all , your UA_CD

    copy your $OEM$ directory (which include your app's) on the system directory

    so , your files must be addressed with corect pathes

    like I do :

    [GUIRunOnce]
       %systemdrive%\install\hotfixes\hotfixes.cmd
       %systemdrive%\install\main_batch.cmd
       %systemdrive%\install\applications.cmd

    without " "

    I make also this mistake .

    also where is run <<cmdlines.txt>> ?

  16. You can try to re-download all drivers you need... my advice.

    check the manufacturer site.

    The OEM_CD(s) will restore the informations that was burned on them,

    maybe more earlier than your product version.

    I buy mainboards with revision 2.2 and the cd was for 2.0 or 2.1

    because is cheaper to burn 10.ooo CDs once than 10 times 1.ooo CDs

    and the technical team provide 10..15 versions before the

    10.ooo CDs stock be out.

    So , for me , it is not quite real to assume that you can restore your PC to the factory settings.

    maybe you can with the CDs provided,

    but it is possible to be other version that you get when you buy it.

    I seen that.
