  1. Hi Ben, If it's a PCI card - and not an on-board NIC, then you might be out of luck asking for a new LAN boot ROM firmware update. If it is on-board then the update is usaully packaged with the system BIOS - so look for the latest motherboard BIOS in this case. Do you have many of these Realtek devices? If not, you might just want to bite the bullet and buy a different NIC. Andy
  2. Hi, Maybe your Resnet is split over several subnets? NetBIOS is not a routable protocol, so you'll not be able to "see" the PCs in "My Network Places" outwith your own subnet. Now, IP is routable, so you'll be able to connect, swap files etc. Make sense now? If you're receiving your network details via DHCP then that limits what you can do about this. As it happens I don't want to go any further because I'm not sure all those other people want you looking around their machines... Andy EDIT: Just seen the post above. So this is old news...
  3. Hi, A bit of googling gave me: This would suggest a problem with TFTP - though as you've noted, other machines are fine. Realtek are known for producing less than A1 hardware, so it may be that the on-board LAN is simply of a low quality. I have not seen this error myself, and by all accounts it is a hardware problem. As such, other than a BIOS flash to update the boot ROM - I can't think what else to do. Good luck, Andy
  4. Hi, I've downloaded and appended the monitor pack for my own needs, but it may be useful to others. I added all the CTX, AOC, GNR, Dell, Sony and Neovo drivers I could muster (it was much fun unpacking and sorting the Dell ones I can tell you!). I used "D" for Dell, "AO" for AOC, "C" for CTX, "G" for GNR, "S" for Sony and "N" for Neovo. I haven't updated the included documentation or concatenated the names of folders containing individual drivers (I guess they could be grouped together in one big directory containing all files for all models of one manufacturer as per the existing pack if required). Please feel free to download it from: http://www.staff.stir.ac.uk/a.m.woodman/DP...Monitor_V511.7z If anyone likes it and would want to tidy it a little and put it up in place of the existing pack please feel free. Cheers, Andy EDIT: Just added GNR and Neovo, so you may want to re-download if got earlier.
  5. HDA still working for me - so at least it hasn't got any worse! Good luck, Andy
  6. Hi, Just checking 1.27 with Intel 915GUX. Has been working up until now so it will (sort of) confirm whether there is a new issue with the latest driver - or if it's just a missing HWID. Cheers, Andy
  7. Hi again, A couple more points - could you post the logon error you get verbatim? I've not seen "logon validation" per se and it would help diagnosis to post the exact error. Secondly, you mention that most of the drivers aren't getting installed. I take it then you've managed to logon eventually, check out device manager and then see a lot of unknown devices? The reason I'm picking up on this is that from what you describe in your first post the drivers should have been installed before the first logon. Only the control panels should remain to be installed AFAIK. Good luck, Andy
  8. Hi, By the above, I take it you mean the point where XP has installed and the machine then boots up for the first time and *usually* logs on automatically using the built-in local administrator account to install the various control panels (if required)? Is the problem that at the point of first logon, it asks for a password? or just does not logon? What is it that happens exactly? You appear to think that this relates to the fact that you cannot log on as local Administrator for XP home (I've never used it over XP pro so I honestly can't tell if you're right or not - though you might be able to get in as local admin by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL twice at the welcome screen and using the "usual" username/password logon instead). Please could you confirm if I have the above correct and what exactly the "logon error" is I've not fully understood. Thanks, Andy
  9. @RogueSpear We use the Intel 915GUX as our standard platform. It comes in Pro/100 VE and - as you've just noticed - Marvell Yukon 1000 flavours. Guess which one we went for... Even though we use the Intel version, I've had a test bed Marvell one working for months now (maybe even a year). Only initially did I have an issue with the drivers, where textmode setup failed at "TCP/IP". The next release fixed that though. Of course, I've had to edit the inf files as per usual on all of them. Andy
  10. Did you edit the inf file as per my suggestion above to see if it helped? Cheers, Andy
  11. Hi, Be sure to check out this thread too: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=61219 It may be that it is contributing to your problem. Good luck, Andy
  12. Why do you keep posting the same question in many threads when I've already tried to answer it for you? Are you checking for replies? Review the thread you posted to in the "Unattended RIS" forum. Andy
  13. Hi Bashrat, Via have updated their Hyperion platform driver to 5.06a. You can get them from here: http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageI...ID=1&CatID=1070 Cheers, Andy
  14. Yep. I kind of ruled that one out through the same reasoning as yourself. Andy
  15. Hi, Have a look at this: http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/referen...xp/xp-lcid.mspx and look for Farsi. You may need to experiment a bit but the information should be correct. Good luck, Andy
  16. Hi, Different language versions of Windows (whether it be XP Pro, MCE, Tablet, etc) use different licence keys. As such, I'm not surprised that the key that shipped with your OEM French Tablet PC does not work on an English version of Windows Tablet. Also, how did you "download" Windows Tablet? This sounds like a warez deal and I doubt that will be looked upon fondly here if it is so (see forum rule #1). Andy
  17. Now why did they have to move them?... If you go via the "Drivers" link on the main page and search "PC connectivity" -> "Yukon" -> "WinXP" you still no longer see these (where I got them from yesterday). What led you to this link Ryan? Cheers, Andy
  18. Hi, I've had a forum search but can't quite get the answer I'm looking for. I distribute an unattended flat RIS image (though this question isn't RIS specific) with integrated hot fixes and slipstreamed drivers. I also dynamically create a set of files such that I can install the recovery console using GUIRunOnce and winnt32.exe... at first logon. This all works fine for me and I have no problems with the installation per se. However, I use BTS driver packs and so the files required by the RC change with each version of the Mass Storage Driver Pack. Obviously when mass storage drivers are slipstreamed to work with textmode setup references are made to the driver files in txtsetup.inf and dosnet.sif and so this changes what files are required by the RC installation. I am trying to write a script to make my RC dynamic file copy list more flexible by automatically responding to changes in slipstreamed mass storage drivers. To do this, I need to know what parts of txtsetup.inf and dosnet.sif the winnt32.exe /cmdcons...... references when it performs its file copies. I would appreciate any insight into this. I realise this is a little confusing at first glance and am grateful for any response. Cheers, Andy
  19. @Bashrat Sure enough. They were up yesterday. They're gone today! Must have been withdrawn for some reason. I'll keep you posted... Cheers, Andy
  20. Hi, I imagine this is an NTFS permissions issue. Can you log on with a privilege level (usually local admin will suffice) that will let you take ownership of the file and delete it? It appears as if your account currently does not have permission to delete the file. Regards, Andrew
  21. Hi, Maybe you need to look towards stopping the creation of the shortcuts, rather than deleting them after the event. If RunOnce is too early to run your cleanup script then it might start to get tricky. Good luck, Andy
  22. Hi, We have roughly 2000 staff PCs and 6 technicians to administrate them. Most PCs reside at a single location, but there are still a fair number (over 100) at 2 remote locations, as well as a fair number of roaming laptops. All technicians are based at the single largest site. Hope that helps, Andy
  23. Hi, If you work in a corporate environment and use a sensible method to build PC's (i.e. RIS) I can't see why you'd go with anything but Intel. The others have either had flaky variants over the years (anyone remember waiting for an "A" version of a VIA release?) or the drivers are just difficult to get working unattendly on a varied hardware base (NVidia for instance - check out Bashrat's driver pack forum for more on that!). Cheers, Andy
  24. This has to be the winner of the "I could have guessed the answer with my eyes closed" contest! ME Andy PS: Why is XP Home so bad compared to the likes of ME? I don't know many users of home that need any of the features of pro. They like the discounted upgrade though.
