VitoCorleone replied to jpatto's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
i cant agree with u Marsden. I think that gamers will use 64-bit cpu so they should recieve a 64-bit OS for home also -

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "DefaultUserName"="InsertName" "DefaultPassword"="InsertPassword" "AutoAdminLogon"="1" Replace InsertName value with the Username you want to autologin with, and the InsertPassword value with the password corresponding to the Username specified.

i'll surely switch, as soon as intel 64bit cpu will be available. It's what i'm waiting for right now coz i need to bay a new computer But if i were to decide for my company i would wait a while, for most of the progarms to update and not be a guinea pig as horsecharles said. -
i,ve heared that somewhere before... nvm p4 3,2 LGA 775 Asus mobo with wifi, 1GBit lan, DDR2, no vga, ATA/SATA, 8ch audio, 512MB Kingston DDR2 GForce of some kind (better asus) 40 GB SATA WD Raptor 200 GB ATA/SATA WD 17' LCD Samsung/LG depends on what do you whant to use the PC for. the rest is less important Anyway componants vary depending on what u want to use them for: games/word processing/graphic editing?

How do they do it?

nice thnx @gamehead200 the "i am currently not listening to any music" and "computer offline" refers to you? -
Like in the title. I want to install a good audio player but i don't know wich one. Winamp 5 opens to slow but is very comfortable, WMP is not good enough, i also used Musicmatch Jukebox but it's to slow. Maybe i have a old pc (PIII800 512 CDRAM) but IMO music doesn't need as much CPU power that my pc wouldn't handle, so... I'm looking for a player wich is: - fast - easy to use - has no visualisations or built in video players I'm sure everyone has its own best player so just post it here

i had a similar problem and i did a lot o different things before it was ok so i'm not sure what was the reason. But i'll tell what i think helped. First of all check if you have the latest firmware on your router if not upgrade! Then assing static ip in your router config and use the same ip in your tcp/ip settings. How far is the computer from the router? Try removing all obstacles on the signals way for exaple moving the router next to the pc, and see if it helps. Maybe your router is damaged. Write if it helped. If not there's a couple of other things you can do before throwing it out of the window hope it helped

How 2 secure my linksys wireless home network...
VitoCorleone replied to ceez's topic in Networks and the Internet
if your not runing a bussines on your wlan, mac filtering is everything you need. I don't see the point of useing wep wpa when it's no problem to braek them with simple programs on the web and the encryption slows your connection down Aha and don't broadcast your ssid Unfortunetly mac filtering and ssid broadcast can also be broken -
For most usres SP2 firewall and a good antivirus is all they need. It works for me, but i don't even use do sp2 firewall but only NAV2005 and it's worm protection instead Whatever people say about norton produtcs I never had virus problems after instaling NAV... Besides is always the best protection
-
how do u know that the modem is the problem?? If it is what're saying then check if you have the problem after instaling new drivers

Refering to your first post: My system runs in a similar way as you described and i think that it even runs faster since the system partition is smaller (= less trashed) and i can defrag it from time to time. Refering to your second post: don't change the bios settings to load the old os, use the boot.ini (or find a boot manager) to choose between os on startup.
