I have my work laptop windows 10 that joined a work domain and I have my home desktop windows 7 that on workgroup.

When I am at home and from my work laptop I used to access a shared folder on my desktop to do backup.

Now whenever I tried to access the shard folder the error below pops up

    Work Laptop can ping desktop

Other homes computers can access a shared folder issue only with my work laptop

  2. Dear folks

I am aware that TrueCrupt is discontinued project.

I would like to use a TrueCrypt 7.1a to encrypt USB Flsh drive by following the guide below :

    http://www.howtogeek.com/61810/how-to-protect-your-flash-drive-data-with-truecrypt/

Loading the TrueCrypt Binary Files on Your Flash Drive

In order to access your encrypted volume on systems which do not have TrueCrypt loaded, you must load the required binary files needed to mount the container on the host system. Thankfully, TrueCrypt has a function which makes this easy.

The quote above realted to non hidden volume and how it can be mounted on a systems which do not have TrueCrypt loaded,,,means you have a flexibility to hook your USB flash stick on any laptop or a computer if you need to access your encrypted container.

Can I do the same thing if I had created a hidden volume ?? If so where can I find step by step to do that ?

    Regards

  3. Might want to run process monitor while attempting to open that msc file (it logs as soon as it's run, so open procmon, repro the issue, then file > save the log quickly). That should at least tell what library it isn't finding as registered properly.

I am going to try what you have suggested.

Sorry for the late reply I was busy and the windows (laptop) that I am having problem with it is not mine, it is for my cousin, therefore I have to get it from him every time I need to check what is recommended by you guys.

Meanwhile this is the property to the Windows OS

  4. Hi

I tried to google for this phrase : windows 7 unable to access "Local Uesrs and Groups",,,,but all I found is related to XP

My issue is I have a standalone windows 7 64 bit, "Local Uesrs and Groups" has a read cross on it

  5. I should be easy to solve this issue:

    - As you already installed outlook 2007, you should be able to a new personal folder the same way you did it with 2003: file, new, personal folder then choose the right format so not 97-2002 if you want it to be greater than 2GB.

Thanks for this tip I did create new profile as suggested File --> new --> Outlook Data File,,,,--> personal folder

Now what I did I moved all messages (inbox , folders and sub folders, sent items) Now when i contacted outlook to POP3 email account outlook started downloading same messages again!!!!

How can this be avoided in future ?

How can I deleted the duplicated emails that had already been downloaded ?

    Thanks

  6. Dear Experts

With the outlook 2003 not 2002 (limit to 2 GB) I have been experiencing this problem

Cannot move the items C:\Documents and Settings\johnallen\local settings\applicationdata\microsoft\outlook\outlook.pst has reached its maximum size.

To reduce the amount of data in the file, select some items that you no longer need and then permanently delete them by pressing SHIFT + DELETE. You could consider using the new outlook prsonal folders file (.pst) introduced with outlook

2003 that provides greater capacity for storing items and folders.

Then I renamed the old profile to Outlook_OLD.pst then created a new profile called outlook.pst ,,,,,and move all folders from Outlook_OLD.pst to Outlook.pst

Then I uninstalled Office 2003 and installed office 2007.

But still I am experiencing same problem

Then I compacted the .pst file as suggested in the link below :

    http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f57/outlook-2003-file-has-reached-its-maximum-size-160353.html

You can compact the .pst file by doing the following:

    - Click File -> Data File Management

    - Select the data file that you want to compact then choose 'Settings'

    - Click 'Compact Now'

    But still no joy

    Then I tried this

How to configure the size limit for both (.pst) and (.ost) files in Outlook 2010, Outlook 2007, and in Outlook 2003

    Outlook 2007
The policy location for the registry entries is located in the following path in Registry Editor:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\PST

But I have got this part : ' Office\12.0\Outlook\PST ' of the above registry path is missing

    Thanks

  7. Hi Expert

Client of mine has got very simple network with windows 2008 server as standalone server (not active directory) and I enabled updates as shown through the control panel as shown below :

    http://i28.tinypic.com/o5xfed.jpg

    o5xfed.jpg

When the updates are ready to be installed as below :

    http://i25.tinypic.com/ipphya.jpg

    ipphya.jpg

And when I hit the button to install the important update I get this failed message below

    http://i26.tinypic.com/rka16d.jpg

    rka16d.jpg

1- Since I have chosen to install the updates automatically through the control panel why the updates did not get installed automatically ??

2- Why when I hit the button to install the updates it failed ?

3- What would be the best practice for updates installation ?

    Thanks

  8. For instance I faced this issue today

Thanks guys for the inputs, I did not mean to dedicate this thread for the printer's problem (it was my mistake I should have stated that in my first thread) I mentioned the printer's issue as an example to one of couple problems that I have been experiencing with users domain.

What we do is give the user a temporary password and tell them to leave their on computer overnight. After hours go into user account and reset users password and do our business. Once done we go back into user account and hit the "user must change password at next login" checkbox. User logs in the next day with the temporary password and changes it.

This is what I was looking for.

Thanks for sharing your experience and helping out to save our of troubleshooting

  9. Hi

In the domain environment (win2003 AD) and clients are XP prof, what would be the practical procedure if we want to trouble shoot a PC client if he/she has an issue with installing printer , sending an email , an error,,,etc

Although I have got the password for a local admin for all PCs clients, but I guess when to login to the client profile himself/herself rather than local admin to troubleshoot.

Yes when the client has already logged in we can do the work, but I prefer to do that after work (when employees knock off) it gives us more time and flexibility especially when we need more time .

Without knowing the password for a client (i.e. domain user) how can we troubleshoot his/her profile?

I am aware that we can reset his/her password, but this is not a practical solution I believe.

For instance I faced this issue today I accessed work network via VPN connection and I tried to log in to a PC client as local admin (not login to his/her profile because I do not know what is the password) and when I tried to add a shared printer to that PC it was added successfully to admin profile and I asked him to log in to his profile to test the printer if it was installed or not , he told me that he could not print ,,,,for me to check that and confirm what he is saying I guess I need to login to his profile ,,,,Doesn’t it ?

    Thanks

  10. My second question

    http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-2...tion-/6017.html

You could use the default domain GPO, but I advise against it. Better to create a new OU (or OU's) with any necessary sub OU's under it. Then create a GPO on the main OU and apply your settings there.
For a Folder Redirection should I create new OU and copy users from current OU one to the new OU as advised in the quote above ?

    Thanks

  11. http://forums.msrportal.com/showthread.php?t=15296

    Hi

Since I registered recently I could not post my question in the proper section.

The only option I have got is to post it in the "General Support Issues"

On windows 2003 server I tried to access Folder Redirection (to prevent a domain user from saving to his/her My Document folder) by doing

Run --> gpmc.msc (not gpedit.msc ) "Folder Redirection" is missing.

I tried to re-register it as below explained below :

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;555218

    Run -->Type in :

     regsvr32 fde.dll

Registration successful but still "Folder Redirection" is missing !!!

Can someone advise what steps should I take in consideration ?

    Thanks

    Thanks

  12. Hi

We are using Active Directory with Exchange server 2003 and client PCs are XP SP3.

I have got a user Allen (his position is a manager) currently he is using an object user called NMA with an associated email address : info@123.com.in ,,,,(fake address)

Right now he has got 230 555 items in that mailboxes (info@123.com.in).

He asked me that he wants to use a different email address because his position in a company is a manager and he should not be using the info@123.com.in.,,,instaed he should be using: manger@123.com.in

When I checked " Active Directory Users and Computers " I have seen an user object for a manger (created while ago, not by me) with an email associated to it as manger@123.com.in (no one is using it) ,,,,,,has few emails 95 in it (95 items)

1- How can I migrate (move) all emails and profiles from previous outlook for info@123.com.in to manager@123.com.in ????

2- I do not like to disbale info@123.com.in,,,,because it will be used by another employee not by Allen any more

3- Is there away that we can keep 95 items within the manger@123.com.in ?

Note: Allen (manager) does not like to have two emails accounts attached to the same mailbox,,,,he needs to have only manager@123.com.in and info@123.com.in will be used by another employee

    Thanks

  13. I keep getting this message when the laptop starts

windows can not find "s".Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again.to search for a file click the start button and then click search

    windowscannotfindspv2.th.jpg

    http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/2259/wi...notfindspv2.jpg

I used antiviruses, scanonline, I checked msconfig for the name, I tried to search many sites (see for instance the one below) to find out the solution for the problem , but I could not find a one that overcomes my issue

  14. I used to have two desktops A & B, they have internet sharing and printer sharing , they were working fine.

Desktop A XP Professional SP2 PC has got two printers (HP and Samsung) connected directly (USB cable), and Printer sharing is turned on .

I bought another Desktop to replace B, because B is an old PC.

From the Desktop B, when attempting to chose the option :

A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer

, to add a shared printer , I can browse and see the printers name (hp and Samsung), however, when I attempt to

connect both of them, I get the following error:

cannot connect to the printer operation could not be completed error

Do I need to have admin account with their passwords on both Desktop to be able to share the printers ?

Both PCs have XP prof SP2, and both of them on the same workgroup name (MSHOME)
