  1. Haha Jaclaz. I love it. Sadly my poor old laptop needs every bit performance it can get. Cheers, Ben
  2. Noel: Similar issue here. Difference being that mine wasn't Installed on a VM and DISM was actually able to repair the problem after running it twice. Edit, Looks like It was a temporary thing as it's now corrupt and won't repair. see pic http://1drv.ms/132g0XF
  3. Noel: The only 3rd party startup application was for the graphics card. Amd ATI Catalyst Control Centre, which I disabled but it made no difference. I basically installed chrome, mphc and that was it realy. Other then that its a blank install. DosProbie: Thats script works fine but it goes back to it's usual behaviour once I reboot. Edit: Got it working properly. I renamed all the default power plans. Created three new ones and named them "Power Saver", "Balanced" and "High performance". I then Deleted the original renamed power plans and ran the above script. The settings now stick even after a reboot.
  4. Has anyone else had the issue of changes between Power Plans not being permanent? I.E On my test laptop I can switch from "Balanced" to "High Performance" but in 15mins time it reverts back to "Balanced". For the time being I just changed the settings in "Balanced" to the same as "High Performance". Incidentally changing the name of the power plan does not solve the issue. Cheers, Ben.
  5. Yumako14-san Do a full reboot and then try to run Hibernate trace again. A program could be open in the background and is trying to read the files before xperf can write them. MagicAndre1981: I think that is what you were trying to say?
  6. Can you please tell us what method you used to trace?
  7. Aloha, I don't think so. It's more just to do with power savings, etc. I have had hard drives that have had powered up times of 3 or more years. These have never had any power saving enabled. They never failed I just replaced them as they filled up. Cheers, Ben.
  8. Good news Installed the updated driver. It still was very slow to boot but it was faster. I then found the log file for the Inter storage driver, it stated that it was unable to set current power management settings in drive which stopped it from allowing the disk to operate at full speed. I disabled power management for the hard drive and now it starts within 20 seconds. Thanks for the advice and help MagicAndre. Cheers, Ben
  9. Greetings MagicAndre I have a toshiba laptop that is about 5 days old. On every 4th or 5th boot the computer will hang at boot for about 15mins. I disabled fast boot and this didn't do any difference. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/28370259/summary_boot.xml is a link to my Summaryboot.xml file. could you please read it and see if you can see what is causing it? Many Thanks in advance, Ben summary_boot.xml
  10. Ok i have re-run the trace with the new settings and i am currently uploading the etl file as convert to xml fails. will update this post with the link once it uploads. bloody big file too 600+mb Cheers and thanks for the patience, Ben Edit: not bloody big file anymore. here it is. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/28370259/boot%20trace.zip
  11. by tools do you mean startup programs? if so then i have disabled everything except my av, which is security essentials. I also have disabled a heap of non needed services that aren't microsoft related as well. It doesn't seem to make an ounce of difference. Cheers, Ben
  12. MagicAndre: ok i opened the etl file, i was warned that 4807 events were lost. any way it opened up and i was greeted with about 40 different colored lines of various lengths. long story short i couldn't make head nor tale of the info. so i would very much appreciate it if you could look at the file for me. the link for the etl file is here https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/28370259/boot_BASE%2BCSWITCH%2BPOWER_1.etl I apologize for the size. i didn't change size when i tried to zip it. Many Thanks, Ben.
  13. I never figured this out. Open the ETL file directly in the viewer. It has a graph with the boot phases. Here you can see how long which phase takes. OK, thanks will give that a shot. is it usual for the etl file to be half a gig or so in size?
  14. Hello there, awesome guide. Sadly i have a problem with making the html file of the Boot log. When i enter the generate html command into cmd i get the following error message. (note: please ignore the first error in the pic as i mistyped the command) So how do i go about increasing the buffer size and the log size? I had a poke around in "xperf -help start" but everything i tried just spat out failure messages. Many, many thanks in advance, Bentree.
