Sorry if I caused confusion, I'm here to answer your questions.

    Link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17621/internet-explorer-downloads

If you select Windows 8/8.1 it says that there is no IE 11 for Windows 8, if you select Windows 7 you can download IE 11 for Windows 7.

File: EIE11_EL-GR_WOL_WIN764.EXE (the greek version), version 11.0.0.7, size 57,2 MB.

Here I must make a confession. Until now I haven't installed IE 11 (I preferred to stay with IE 10 for the moment). I have started the installation to check If it installs but I haven't finished it. Today I did a complete installation to check what happens. It installs alright (at least so it says), reaches the point where it says "You have installed Internet Explorer 11. You must restart your computer etc.", I restart and I still have IE 10! I haven't seen anything like that before. I submit the contents of the IE11_main.log file in Windows folder:

I tried several times and this is always the output. If anybody can understand what goes on and tell me too it will be appreciated!

    epic fail......everyone with me now.......

Atleast you can still use your GPU with Vista... Anything newer than the RX 2XX series won't work properly (such as my card) :(

o ic, did not know that, well I was hoping for a "better" driver for gaming to be honest ;)

  3. I have been waiting forever and praying that someone will mod some newer AMD driver that we can use on Vista, I see a modified 15.6 but we need something newer, I would love to use Vista right now if I had a sensible more up to date AMD driver for my HD7770 gpu

    Thanks firefoxthebomb  for the reply.

YES. if I right click on the file that says WindowsImageBackup, this is what I see at the General Tab.  Type..File Folder,  Location..F, Size...0 bytes.  Size on disk..0 bytes, Contains...0 files, 1 folder, Created..Wed. Dec21, 2016.

quite normal I thought this was common knowledge, forgive me, windows sets special permissions on this folder, hence it will always show 0 size, mine has always been like this since as long as I can remember! so normal! :)

    There's an App called Edge?

    There's a Windows Store?

Assuming you still have one or both installed on your system, please describe what benefits either has brought you.

wow! I would love to know how in the hell you managed to remove all those packages without an integrity error? esp considering the winsxs folder and how picky that is?! impressive

No tweaks at all.  Download the updates manually and install them.  They are of the same codebase, and in fact, the files are listed as Windows8-RT-KBxxxxx.exe

For Windows Vista, my hope is that Server 2008 classic updates will provide the same benefit past April 2017.  There's one more year left.

    :)

sorry my question was directed at greenhillmaniac, not you, lol

    That's awesome :thumbup

I've actually been doing some testing of Windows 8 of my own, and was able to install AMD's drivers that were meant for 8.1, with a mere tweak of the .ini file. Basically, 8.1 drivers work on 8.0

This thread interests me, because I'm considering moving to Windows 8.0... Seems lighter than 8.1, from the testing I've made.
Also, I'm always interested in preserving older OSs... the more variety we have, the better (especially if such variety isn't affected by Windows 10 nagware ;)).

i'm curious, what ini tweak did you do? I ran 8.0 for some time but used drivers for 7 and they worked fine, did you have to disable driver enforcement after doing the ini tweak?

  8. Yeah, I also have that issue with classic shell. Although with an SSD, it's hardly noticeable.

I also have moments where I start to miss the look of Vista (which was one of the reasons I kept using it for so long). Here's a screenshot from a while back where I modded 8 to look like Vista as much as possible: http://prntscr.com/a234e2(though I've reinstalled since then so I'm back at the default look with glass8 only), so if I begin to miss Vista again, I'll probably just reapply those mods.

This is another area that I find to be a little easier in Windows 8 compared to 8.1. For some reason, I always have trouble customizing 8.1 and getting my changes to stick. I'm aware that some users on here (namely NoelC) have modded their 8.1 installs just fine, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. But 8.0 is working just fine, and I'm really enjoying the experience, and now that we have these updates, I have no reason to upgrade to 8.1.

oh my! that looks awesome! can you tell me how you did that vista look to windows 8? I would love to try it  :) thanks
