Microsoft Windows Update v3/v4/v5
pangoomis replied to WULover's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Most of Win9x updates are not multilingual, only some of them are, depending on the DLL being patched, like KERNEL32.DLL.- 1,089 replies

I want to create an extended kernel for Windows 95

Windows 98SE is a KernelEx for Windows 95 if you think about it... -

PATCHMEM from R.Loew limits/fixes the VCACHE in the same way that Xeno86's VCACHE fix did years ago here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/105373-vcache-fix-attempt -
Universal VESA/VBE Video Display Driver for Win9x

Are you talking about vmdisp9x? Yes, the author is updating his SoftGPU suite from time to time, I am keeping an eye on the developments as well. -
Compiling newer WineD3D for 98SE and/or XP...?
pangoomis replied to Bruninho's topic in Windows 9x/ME
This is quite the news. It is indeed a custom installer using MSYS with quite a variety of WineD3D versions to choose from. I think it would be beneficial to compare those DLLs with the ones we already know. The ISO doesn't contain any source code, so I think it is against the rules, but he has changed the donation text since June 30th so currently it is not available for new donators. Maybe the source code was provided in a separate archive and only the compiled ISO was uploaded? -
LitePC also was (is?) providing embedded Win9x solutions -> https://www.litepc.com/eos.html As for slipstreaming updates, there's rloew's SLIPSTRM -> https://archive.org/details/slipstrm Not sure if anyone actually used it, can be an interesting adventure.

USB Audio Problems and Audio questions (Solved)
pangoomis replied to awkduck's topic in Windows 9x/ME
ALC6xx? That is HD Audio, no drivers for Win9x (apart from the clunky Win3.1 driver with low quality sound and system hangs) As you're using 98 FE, please do note that WDM implementation in FE is not really that good, WDM was properly introduced/fixed in 98 SE/ME. Pretty much all OEMs recommend using VxD drivers for 95/98 FE and WDM drivers for 98 SE/ME, that's for a reason! What is the model of your USB Audio Card? It should install natively as a "USB Audio Device" using WDMA_USB.INF file. -
Universal VESA/VBE Video Display Driver for Win9x
pangoomis replied to Kdoasar's topic in Windows 9x/ME
I haven't tested them on real hardware, though switching interest to VM's rather to real hardware makes sense. -
But MMHID.DLL is related to USB, look at HIDDEV.INF Curiously, I can't find MMHID.DLL in CAB files in 98SE, is it only in 98FE? Is @awkduck using 98FE?

Universal VESA/VBE Video Display Driver for Win9x
pangoomis replied to Kdoasar's topic in Windows 9x/ME
This: https://www.os2museum.com/wp/windows-9x-video-minidriver-hd/ and this: https://github.com/JHRobotics/vmdisp9x can be considered successors to VBEMP. (And don't get me started on the SciTech Display Doctor, ugh) -
HID means USB keyboards/mice/audio cards/whatever. Have any USB devices? Does this error occur even without any USB devices plugged in? Try removing USB controllers in Device Manager/disabling USB in BIOS.

Try using older VIA Chipset/AGP drivers. Provide info about your motherboard, are the capacitors OK? Is it the MSI K8T Neo2 you've mentioned in one of your topics? I personally do not like VIA chipsets for Win9x, all sorts of problems and lots of chipset drivers to install, in contrast to Intel chipsets which do not need any drivers at all. As for AMD CPUs support, I have used an nForce 3 250 motherboard with 98SE with good success, minus the SoundBlaster Live! DOS drivers not working due to how the chipset works so try looking for that chipset if you want to use AMD CPU for 98SE, otherwise, use Intel with chipset like i865.

USB Audio Problems and Audio questions (Solved)
pangoomis replied to awkduck's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Installing official WDM Audio Update - KB242937 for 98SE might help - http://ftp.tekwind.co.jp/pub/asustw/beta/mb/driver/269601USA8.EXE I never had major problems with USB Audio Cards, they work out-of-the-box together with the built-in USB 1.1 support in 98SE. I would suggest removing all audio cards, disabling all built-in audio devices, reinstall 98SE fresh with the USB Sound Card plugged in and the update applied. (no unofficial USB drivers are needed as long as USB is enabled in BIOS, and USB 2.0 is not required for USB Sound Cards to work) -
Radeon Xpress 200 and Radeon X800 refuse to work on 98SE
pangoomis replied to bob_smith's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Catalyst 6.2 for 98SE/ME does have support for PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5954 Try reinstalling 98SE with "setup /p i" switch to disable ACPI. -

You can use "hwinfo /ui" on 98SE FWIW. -

We don't even know what is the issue, TheInvoker should explain it clearly. Is it about the network icon not showing the Windows 11 Bluetooth menu? It is showing it if the taskbar icons are set to Windows 11 or Windows 7 menus.

Great work @Tihiy I remember you from the Revolutions Pack days I've just tried StartAllBack after using ExplorerPatcher for a while (also good stuff) and immediately bought a license, it makes Windows 11 look like Windows 11 while actually being useful! Just one thing I've noticed: - Is there a way to change StartAllBack Settings' language? Couldn't find an option for it and it is forced with the currently set locale.

No drivers are available for the integrated GPU in either of those motherboards, use VBEMP or GeForce 6000/7000 series or Radeon X300/X500/X600/X1050/X700/X800/X850 PCI-E GPU, or a PCI GPU. Use PATCHMEM, user AHCI driver if you want to use a SATA HDD/SSD. Can also use IDE/PATA HDD which is the easiest option. Install 98SE with "SETUP /p i" switch to disable ACPI which causes issues. Use unofficial USB drivers for USB 2.0/Flash Drive support. No drivers available for the integrated HD Audio, use cheap USB Sound Card or PCI sound card. As for LAN, might try drivers from here: https://soggi.org/drivers/realtek.htm

RTL8136 under Windows 98SE - long journey, still no goal
pangoomis replied to Danielx's topic in Windows 9x/ME
https://soggi.org/drivers/realtek.htm There you can find latest Realtek PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet drivers for 98SE/ME, they support 8101E, 8101HP, RTL8131, 8102E/8103E, 8104E, 8168B, 8168C, 8168CASUS, 8168D according to the INF file. I think not all versions of 8168 are supported by those drivers. Newer chips like 8169E? Probably no chance, need to use NDIS2 drivers. -
Actually, Sun and Microsoft weren't too friendly back in the day: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Java_Virtual_Machine MSJVM is one of the reasons why Win98/ME was killed prematurely, as sad as it is...
