  1. Everything works great for me too.

The ONLY issue I have is when you use Automatic color in Personalization and use a Desktop Slideshow for wallpapers, the windows flash sometimes when changing colors. So I just went back to static wallpapers and its fine. I would like if AeroRainbow could be updated to work with AeroGlass and not remove the blur. It just uses a flat color even with AG on, so no glass.

  2. None of those themes are Windows 8.1 Update 1 ready, Ace2. Hardly any themes have been updated to work properly. Animations are messed up in Metro apps and no context menu on tiles in the Start Screen.

And it's not really the devs fault as Windows Style Builder hasn't been updated to support compiling update 1 themes.

BTW I did that method to get glow on the default theme and it works great, thanks ace2!

It IS the devs fault. I have multiple themes that work perfectly fine with Update 1 with all functionality. It has nothing to do with WSB being updated. Try that Longhorn theme I linked. It works with Update 1 completely.

  3. I know this has probably been asked before but I can't seem to find a definitive answer. Is there any way to get the glow effect on ribbon-enabled windows? Such as explorer etc...?

    Its on the guide, bud.

http://glass8.berlios.de/guide.html <--- The regedit chart at the bottom. TextGlowMode. Its good to use a theme that can provide all the glow. I use 0x3.

AH, gotcha, so basically I have to wait for 8.1 Update 1 compatible themes that support glow. (8.1 themes don't support context menus on the update 1 start screen)

Exactly. The Longhorn theme works great with glow and the context menus. I helped the person who made the port test it to iron out as many bugs as we could find. Works great. http://www.deviantart.com/art/Longhorn-Evolution-8-1-version-4-5-14-444468395

  4. Are y'all slow or something? You dont need regedits to get this to work with Update 1. Its very simple.

    1. If you've donated, put your donation key in the folder you are going to install AeroGlass to. Symbols probably still wont download automatically, but I didnt try. I just downloaded the symbols manually. If you havent donated, then skip this step.

    2. If you don't have the symbols already, then use the symbols.cmd thats been mentioned here before along with the 8.1 SDK to download the symbols to the AeroGlass folder. The code for the symbols.cmd is below. If you cant figure out how to use this, then you shouldn't be trying to use AeroGlass anyway.

    MKDIR %userprofile%\appdata\local\temp\dllsCD C:\Windows\System32XCOPY "dwm.exe" %userprofile%\appdata\local\temp\dllsXCOPY "dwmcore.dll" %userprofile%\appdata\local\temp\dllsXCOPY "uDWM.dll" %userprofile%\appdata\local\temp\dllsCD C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Debuggers\x64SYMCHK /r %userprofile%\appdata\local\temp\dlls /s SRV*C:\AeroGlass\symbols\*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbolsRD /S /Q "%userprofile%\appdata\local\temp\dlls"

    3. THEN install AeroGlass and it will work perfectly fine.

This is exactly what I did and its worked exactly as it should ever since.

  5. There were more reasons why I have disabled donations for a while. But the most biggest reason was that many users donated without reading the donation page at all and then they thought that they were paying for commercial software with fulltime support. But it is fair to me to reorganize the website so user is fully apprise that the software is just done in my free time and his donation is the form of "hey, I like your software and I think that you should work on it if you have some free time". I think I should finish it during this weekend. It is almost done, just some minor things are remaining.

On the other side, there is a good news because I was able to install Update 1 and I can say that it will be possible to fix Aero Glass for this update. Now it is working for me with some glitches, but I guess when symbols are present, no additional change will be needed in the code.

Welcome to the "dark side" so to speak lol. Glad to hear you have it working. I'll be awaiting the DWM symbols from MS so we can get Aero back.

  6. Lol @ people "skipping the update" because it doesnt have much new/changed. Unless you've actually used it, stay silent. Those who have used it notice a lot of changes.

    1. Power & search on start screen

    2. Right click on tiles for desktop users

    3. Minimize/close apps in the top right corner

    4. Show Win8 apps on the taskbar

    5. Desktop control panel link from PC Settings

    6. Changes to the all apps view in Start

    7. Show the taskbar while in Windows 8 apps using Winkey + T

There are plenty more under the hood changes as well like smaller system requirements, better memory management, etc. So, yeah. Go ahead and "skip" it, sheeple. The rest of us will move on with keeping our OS fast, reliable, and secure.

@BM: Check yaself. No one here is innocent of stealing anything, especially on the internet. Music, movies, TV shows, software, Windows, etc. Unless your slate is clean, don't throw stones.

I will wait for your update to Aero Glass for 8.1.1 like we all know you will do.

  7. Lmfao. Yeah Noel, you could stand to relax a little bit.

This update that I and quite a few other people received were on MS's own servers. Just as Chris123NT pointed out. download.windowsupdate.com. The files are, in fact, STILL there if you care to look around and follow any forums discussing it. The MDL forum has a big discussion about it.

What I choose to do with MY PC is up to me and only me. If I choose to install a leaked update provided on Microsoft's servers, then I will do so. I paid for my copy of Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. Service packs have never been charged for and never will be. There is no "stealing" here. The update, published to the world or not, is still free.

Also, the "bug" link that was given saying that the modern apps being closed go back to desktop regardless of the setting is fine with me. I'm on a desktop. I want my screen to go back to the desktop when I close an app.

As for AeroGlass, this project itself is breaking down and modifying Microsoft code to provide something they took away. You're not here bashing this project because it provides something you want.

So, you can feel free to drop the righteous "i've never stolen anything in my life" attitude. You're in the wrong place for it.

  8. I installed the Win 8.1 Update 1 and forgot it would break AeroGlass. :(

Yeah, I uninstalled AeroGlass before installing 8.1 Update 1. Also, most third party themes that I tried dont work properly on the start screen. For example, right clicking on tiles should bring up a context menu. Only works for the default theme.

Fixing non-problems before they maybe actually exist.

Let's call it "proactive prevention" instead of the more common used term "lost time".

I like the way you think, jaclaz.

Those of you who are running "leaked" software: You have no idea who's added what to it. Do you think that you're safe running such software? You do understand that what you're doing is illegal, right?

    -Noel

I have to say I disagree with that whole statement about the leaked software.

    1. The software hasnt had anything "added" to it except what MS themselves put in it because the leaked builds were on Microsoft's Windows Update servers shortly before they were pulled and are now mirrored everywhere.

    2. None of this is "illegal." Its an update. To people like myself that have purchased Windows 8.1, this update is free. Nothing is being stolen. If anything, its against Microsoft's End User License Agreement that you, and I, haven't actually read.

As for safe, I've been running it for about 4 hours now and everything is running smoothly. All the features in the leaked Escrow build are working just fine on my production machine. The only thing making this incomplete is the Aero Glass and updated themes to support the new features.

Relax, Noel. MS software is leaked all the time from MS themselves. Who do you think discovered the "hacked" registry key? ;)

  9. People wouldnt give sarcastic, elitist answers if people just searched first instead of asking.

In fact, if you did do any searching and have followed this project as much as you say you do, then you would know that all the registry entries and what to use to change them is listed right on BigMuscle's website right here: http://glass8.berlios.de/guide.html

So, please. Dont come on here asking for help on how to use a software thats not meant for everyday users and then get upset when someone gives you a slightly sarcastic, yet direct answer that you could have found yourself.

    Be the miracle.

  10. Even when running Chrome, my aerohost usage is not high. Highest I see it go is 0.13%

My total uptime is 19 hours, 48 minutes and aerohost's total cpu time is 2 minutes, 24 seconds. I'm perfectly fine with that.

Hi raiden89! Can you tell me how to use the theme 8 plus? I found it in http://froggz19.devi...s-8-1-402231766 .

I'm using the theme and Aero Glass for Windows 8.1 with TextGlowMode set to 0x3. But still no window has caption text glow effect.

    Thank you very much!

I would use MrGrim's aero glass configurator. I use that to adjust the text glow mode. If you google that program, you should find it. The latest version works with Aero Glass 1.2. I have the glass. Also, make sure that you arent running on battery or you have the option to disable glass on battery disabled.

  11. Lol no one said it was true. However, Winbeta is not in the habit of posting lies. If they believe its a rumor, then they will plainly state to "take it with a grain of salt."

Whether they are going to bring blur back wont be for sure until we get the final build and see if its been put back in. It does seem pretty out there for them to be re-adding it back in after they seemed pretty adamant about removing it.

According to the comments, it kinda appears that Winbeta might not have known about this particular trick. Its the same registry key used in previous builds of Win8.

Oh well, we'll know in a month or two. Most likely not gonna happen tho.
