  1. That sounds like the maker expects it to work with Windows 7, which is odd enough to make me wonder if Windows 7 would install on the original 5400 rpm drive.
  2. On Chrome Portable 49 the version box popped up unreliably for many months, then went missing altogether for many months. I've had to right-click in the general area (where the box would normally be) in order to see the version number displayed. You can do the same with this new box (right click on "version information").
  3. Device Manager / Computer / ACPI Multiprocessor PC ; right-click and update driver. You could also enter the BIOS and reset the CPU configuration (set it to one or two cores, save, then go back and set it once again to all cores).
  4. I think the registry change (and maybe a reboot) should have done it, but that CPU may be a little...different (two dual-core CPU dies in a single package, rather than 4 true cores). You could try to update the CPU driver in device manager, or just uninstall it, and reboot to reinstall.
  5. Is the CPU configuration in the BIOS set to use all active processor cores?
  6. What exact model of CPU are you using? Does Device Manager show your machine running in ACPI Multiprocessor PC mode?
  7. You can find UURollup here, but I don't know whether it works for German version: http://sdfox7.com/2000/Important_EOL_Updates/

  9. These warnings do seem to be pretty spotty, at least that's the sense I get from the scattered reports from members here. The YouTube notice came up on my parents' machine before I changed the apparent browser on that one. These instances are all on machines running the latest Firefox esr. Just have to hope the powers that be don't dig any deeper, so that simply overriding the user agent continues to do the trick. Of course software (e.g. DAZzle) is another matter.
  10. Endicia provides "internet-based postage services for e-commerce businesses" such as their DAZzle software for buying and printing postage. A couple of months ago they sent the following notice: Action Required: Update Your Operating System and Browser In order to continue using Endicia, we strongly recommend that you update your operating system and/or internet browser by June 30, 2018. After that date, our software and website will no longer be supported, and may no longer function, on the following operating systems and internet browsers: • Microsoft Windows Vista • Microsoft Windows XP • Microsoft Windows 2003 • MacOS 10.8 and below • Internet Explorer versions 10 and below • Mozilla Firefox versions 26 and below • Google Chrome versions 29 and below • Apple Safari versions 6 and below Similar moves have come from other quarters. The United States Postal Service cut off XP and/or older browser access to USPS Tracking as of April 30 (can be circumvented by browser spoof for now). Recently a similar move was made by PayPal (can be circumvented by browser spoof for now). Then a warning came from YouTube when using their website with Windows XP (must click to acknowledge the warning, then the site is accessible). Anyway, a couple of days ago this message appeared when opening Endicia's DAZzle software: A nice change of heart, and one that implicates the payment card industry for at least some of these artificial restrictions against Windows XP on the internet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payment_Card_Industry_Security_Standards_Council https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payment_Card_Industry_Data_Security_Standard
  11. I don't know Advanced Server from Professional, but maybe the first link here will work: https://msfn.org/board/topic/173710-intel-mei-driver-pci-simple-communications-controller/?do=findComment&comment=1097275
  12. I'm using Firefox 52.6.0esr, and the cryptojacking test says I'm protected. I wonder if that's because my install is spoofed to version 76.
  13. I experienced the usual slow scans when test running MU. I have only tried to update a few machines so far (because of the odd nature/timing of this month's updates), and have not tried to preempt the long scan times by manually applying any updates this month, instead just waiting for the yellow shield to show up. I'm holding back a little and reassessing whether the risk posed going forward is greater from Microsoft's patches or from the vulnerabilities being patched. The update process looks more rickety every month.
  14. Office updates are not showing up on some of my machines, as well. Time to bang on the side of the chassis, like in the old days.
  15. Why do you say the HFSLIP2000 package isn't mentioned on your website? And doesn't the HFSLIP2000 Full Package already include all of the individual updates?
  16. They fixed the MU problem for Windows 2000 Professional, too, so it wasn't based on popularity.
  17. Perhaps the Office Compatibility Pack will receive security updates until April, 2018: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3
  18. Why do you say "theoretically"; I thought you were doing this regularly a few years ago, and planning to do it again at some point? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/156521-unofficial-sp-52-for-microsoft-windows-2000-wip/?do=findComment&comment=1103672
  19. Same here; I tried this and I tried that, and finally figured out it was malwarebytes anti-exploit (after uninstalling it fixed my browser problems). Obviously a major botch on their part.
  20. Unfortunately, you haven't given us much information about your hardware, but "computer is too new" may mean you're running up against this problem: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/175782-ntdetect-failed-during-setup/?do=findComment&comment=1126466 In which case--if your motherboard does not have a PS/2 connector--there is no way to make your USB ports work in Windows 2000 Professional.
  21. Never mind the Turing Test, let's just have them fight it out!
  22. Maybe in the future it will be Tay that who is expected to apologize: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-10-10/skype-s-homeland-grapples-with-dilemma-of-robot-as-legal-person To summarize: law as a nice cover in case something goes wrong... "Hey, don't sue me, sue the killer robot I built."
  23. We have seen that URL bar version information can be unreliable; remember this instance? where simply renaming the folder (regardless of what version was actually in the folder) produced misinformation:
  24. I see you're not running Windows 8.x or Windows 10, so however bad your day, it could be worse. Hang in there.
  25. The problem is that the Flash Player "Install Now" link says the download is 19.6 MB, but when you download, it is only 1.1 MB--and the installation screen looked a little different, as well. I don't know where Bersaglio found the full installer, but thanks for that.
