The transition to the minimum Win10 1607 is inevitable.

"Support for Windows 8 and for Windows 10 before 1607 is now dropped"

The fact 120 Chrome started to work seems more like a temporary bug.

Speaking of Chrome 120, official Google Chrome 120 stable just came out (build 120.0.6099.62/.63)

For the sake of reference, I wanted to post this unsupported upgrade path. I do not know if the bugged version of Enterprise is still available online. I just happened to have found it in my software archives. Again, this is for in-place upgrades without modifying the install.wim, and/or dealing with the upgradematrix.xml.

the 2015 ltsb version isos are still online after doing various google searches

End of an era.  Next year I'll move to Windows 10 LTSC 2019.  I'll miss ya Windows 8.

eh maybe use either W10 LTSB 2016 v1607 or recent LTSC 2021 v21H2.
LTSC 2019 was based on the buggy v1809 release (though recent CUs for LTSC 2019 make it nearly stable), which one other person in another forum deems that version "half baked"

I'm OK that I can't use these new ESU updates for Windows 8.  I always installed the "Security Only Update" and not the rollups, since that allowed me to bypass the Spectre, Meltdown and Flash patches.

KB5031427 is the very last security only update for Server 2012 R0 / Windows 8
and KB5031407 is the equivalent security only & very last SO update for Server 2012 R2 / Windows 8.1.
Microsoft is no longer producing any more new security-only updates for Windows Server 2012 / Windows 8.x beyond those two updates.

that's not the same thing as the REAL Windows 11 LTSC release which is coming late next year

time to close/lock this thread as there was a another thread asking about Win11 LTSC

  5. an official (and REAL) Windows 11 LTSC was announced late April 2023 by Microsoft, which will come sometime in the 2nd half of 2024:

    Windows 11 LTSC

It's important for organizations to have adequate time to plan for adopting Windows 11. Today we're announcing that the next Windows LTSC releases will be available in the second half of 2024:

    Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC

    Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC

We'll provide more details as we get closer to availability.

Be careful..  We're not supposed to mention that tool.  But it's good to know it's working.

I'm a tad spoiled over at Windows 8 Land.  Here I just download and install.  I have apparently two more updates coming my way.  I'm not sure if what is considered to be "unspoken" will work in my case beyond that, however, I was going to stop updating Windows after October's final patch.  I'll just keep updating Firefox ESR 115, and manually updating Windows Defender as long as possible.  After that, I'll retire Windows 8 at the close of 2024.

though Server 2012 R0 & R2 versions will get 3-year ESU extension from October 2023 to October 26

Thanks, I´ve removed the link. The laptop I´ve got Windows 8.1 on has a prehistoric SIS display adapter that Bsods on W10+, so I`m stuck. Luckly MS will be realeasing updates untill 2026 for Server 2012 R2...

not just for Server 2012 R2 but also for rtm Server 2012 (or as I call it "R0")

KB5028228 is the last rollup for 32bit Win8.1 and KB5028232 is the last rollup for 32bit Win8.0

gonna have to check whether or not KB5029295 rollup works on 64bit Win8.0

    What I can do this?

My computer with Q6600 (OC) 8GB RAM and SSD is very fast with this OS. It's the best!

to install .NET 4.8 on Win8.0 and their .net 4.8 updates, look in this thread from another forum and here too (need to be a member there to view links)

I would honestly be surprised a little if ESR 115 doesn't support Windows 7/8/8.1, as that would go against their usual traditions

that is not the case as Mozilla recently decided to extend Win7/8.x support and the upcoming Firefox ESR 115 release WILL support those versions until late 2024.

    Quote

We will not be ending support for Windows 7/Windows 8 before the release of the Firefox 115 ESR, so the Firefox 115 ESR will support Windows 7/Windows 8 at least until 3Q 2024.

Why?  The updates should work as they are until October 2023.  Then you could install it

not necessarily true for 8.1 w/out the bypass tool
it's not like with newer server 2012 rtm updates on win8.0; not quite the same as newer server 2012 r2 updates on win8.1
what has worked with win8.0 doesn't quite work the same with win8.1, Jody

So in other words, the installation never completes?

yup. fails with "we couldn't complete the updates undoing changes" error message part way.
conducting my own tests with the Feb. 2023 & Mar. 2023 w8.1 embedded / server 2012 r2 updates, they fail to install
on normal win8.1 editions including win8.1 core/home edition, thus agreeing with Jaguarek62's assessment.

that's why that bypass tool is needed to fully install Feb. 2023 & newer updates for "client" Win8.1 edition OSes
(bypass not needed for win8.1 embedded industry edition yet as that one gets support until July 2023)
    I know because I use a win8.1 core/home os on my father's old 2013 Toshiba satellite c55a laptop on a
    backup hard drive

Can you try for me if this registry rule (used by mrpink) hides the warning?

    Chrome:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Google\Chrome]
    "SuppressUnsupportedOSWarning"=dword:00000001

    Path to Edge:

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge]

I use registry paths HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome & HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge and input the "SuppressUnsupportedOSWarning" entry on those sections so that the warning for both Chrome & MS Edge is disabled for "all users" (aka. system wide)

    https://borncity.com/win/2022/12/05/windows-7-8-1-server-2012r2-deactivate-google-chrome-notification-to-upgrade-to-windows-10/

    Quote

Using the registry branch HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE instead of HKCU in the above .reg file shall suppress the notification for all user accounts on a machine.

The registry entry triggers a notification "Managed by organization", but that doesn't harm.

Windows 10 LTSC 2019 user here , i can say i have nothing to say it works but its buggy but fast and i gonna receive update until 2029.

like how buggy is LTSC 2019 on your PC?

I have Win10 LTSC 2019 v1809 on my family's Dell Inspiron 620 desktop PC (a sandy bridge intel i5-2500 [2nd gen Intel] cpu) that came out in late 2011 [slightly older than the PCs RayZen have and using the pre-installed western digital 1TB HDD but has 8Gb of RAM] and is relatively fast AND stable (few to no bugs on there with the recent updates to LTSC 2019)

LTSC 2019 feels like 98 SE (2nd edition) to me (not 98 gold/rtm)

You mean "System" from Control Panel? You can open it through the context menu you get if you right-click on it. Or the normal way through Open-Shell start menu if you have Control Panel displayed as menu.

in Win10 versions 20H2 & newer (latest one is 21H2 but 22H2 will be coming in autumn 2022), type this in the Run dialog box:

    explorer.exe shell:::{BB06C0E4-D293-4f75-8A90-CB05B6477EEE}

saw that tip from this site

Runs just fine in IE 11, as well as Chrome & Firefox (prior to the most recent few versions; see post for details). Edge appears to be hopeless though.

MS Edge chromium dropped Adobe Flash support completely in early 2021
