  2. ... or this one, issued at an earlier date (which direct download link has been replaced by the above) Note the file versions are much higher in the latter but it alos contain less files. I monitored the discussion in these forums about which file versions are the best/most compatible, and I used those files. Some may be older versions, but they work better/safer. Some of the newer files were buggy, did not work properly. And some files just didn't work, so I removed them. HTH

  4. I'm glad you found the file responsible for the text strings. Pls PM me if you translate those 2 files, and I'll re-package them with the translated texts + the rest, so we can have a French 98MP10. P.S.: I've said a long time ago not to also install WMP9 URP if installing 98MP10 [or the other way around], but since then I've updated a bunch of files, so that statement might not be valid anymore. I'll consult with erpdude8, see what he says, if WMP9 URP + 98MP10 are now compatible. HTH
  5. I've uploaded the file here [2.78 MB]: http://www.mdgx.com/spx/FIX95CPU.ZIP [re-ZIPped using 7-zip, "shaved off" a few more bytes = smaller file size. ] HTH

Aaah, shuks! I've already uploaded MD's new patch over the old one. Sorry, didn't realize some1 might need it. Hopefully the old RS links still work, ortherwise ask MD to send you the 1 you want... http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=97816
  7. ... And here it is... Found here: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#9SU and here: http://www.mdgx.com/upd98me.php#012910 * Unofficial Windows 98 SE 48-bit LBA (Logical Block Addressing) > 137 GB ATA(PI)/(E)IDE/(U)DMA Improved Hard Disk Driver ESDI_506.PDR 4.10.2230: http://www.mdgx.com/files/atadrv98.php Direct download [125 KB, English]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/ATADRV98.EXE Install this Improved ESDI_506.PDR 4.10.2230 Driver on ALL PCs/portables! HTH
  8. You're right, I completely forgot about the newer "unofficial" build ESDI_506.PDR 4.10.2230, which is actually 4.10.2225 "fixed" to make it work with all types of PC hardware. Can be installed manually [unzip and run _install.bat] from here [486 KB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/BHDD31.ZIP Linked from here: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#TLS This build [newest available] is the "universal" one with all the bells, whistles + fixes, and should run ok on all types of hardware. I may even create an Iexpress/INF/SED installer for it in the near future, so one doesn't have to run intall.bat manually, and then reboot. HTH
  9. Also linked here... * Unofficial Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 Component Update (MDIE6CU) 3.1 for Windows 98 SE installs all current MS IE 6.0 SP1 updates + security fixes: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=97816 - MDIE6CU 3.1 [13.7 MB, English]: http://www.mdgx.com/spx/MDIE6CU.EXE - MDIE6CU 3.1 [13.7 MB, Russian]: http://www.mdgx.com/spx/IE6CU_RU.EXE More info (Russian): http://forum.ru-board.com/topic.cgi?forum=...9&start=780 - OLD MDIE6CU 2.9 [13.6 MB, German]: http://www.mdgx.com/spx/IE6CU_DE.EXE More info (German): http://www.nandlstadt.com/downloads.htm ... And added here. HTH
  10. Caution [like it says at my site where 1 can d/l those patches (thanks erpdude8)]... the newer ESDI_506.PDR 4.10.2226 can lock up computers other than IBM Thinkpads. Fortunately older ESDI_506.PDR build 4.10.2225 works ok on all computers. HTH
  11. There is an automated installer (MDIE6CU) created using MS Iexpress by 1 of our own, which installs all these Win2000 IE 6.0 SP1 files on Windows 98 SE: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=97816 All language editions are also here [German installer is older = installs patched files from an older MS security bulletin]: http://www.mdgx.com/ietoy.htm#ICU HTH
  12. Thanks MDGx for the answer. Like I said in my previous post, I have already changed the WMPLOC.DLL for a french one (version 4503) and my WMP is completely french. The problem is that 98MP10.EXE had also changed the GUI of the Windows Explorer (that is when I open any folder, almost all menus & buttons) to english. So I ask from which file could it had came (EXPLORER.EXE is still the same, french version). BTW, 98MP10.EXE is not upgrading %windir%\SYSTEM\WMP.DLL. Is there a problem to do it? (Last version found is from MS09-037: 9.00.00.4507 for WinXP SP3, or 9.0.0.3364 for Win2000 SP4 & WinXP SP2. Both seems to work). 1. WMP menus in Windows Explorer are in English because explorer.exe gets its text strings from %windir%\system\shell32.dll .And shell32.dll has a huge list of those menus + strings. But with a lot of spare time on your hands, u can use RegHacker to edit shell32.dll to your liking. 2. 98MP10 does not update/change wmp.dll in any way. It is designed only to replace WMP9 files with WMP10 files, not to update older 9.0 files. More details in ReadMe: http://www.mdgx.com/98mp10/98mp10.php The package that does that is WMP9 URP: http://www.mdgx.com/wmp.htm#URP [The author of WMP9 URP is erpdude8 , also an MSFN member.] 3. If you translate your files into French, and also get your hands on the other French files that are installed by 98MP10, pls PM me so I can make a French 98MP10. All files installed by 98MP10 are listed in the ReadMe, under the "98MP10 FILES LIST" section: http://www.mdgx.com/98mp10/98mp10.php Tx in advance. HTH
  13. Sorry... I couldn't resist... What do you mean? I'm a DOS "freak", and I've been playing native DOS games, and been using native DOS programs in native MS-DOS 8.00, outside WinME GUI for a long time. One just needs to apply 1 of these WinME dos patches to regain access to AUTOEXEC.BAT + CONFIG.SYS, and then reboot to native DOS by tweaking MSDOS.SYS. That's pretty much it, besides learning how to play old DOS games with alternate/3rd party DOS memory managers, eventually UMBPCI.SYS (if allowed by mobo chipset/BIOS) + tools, like a true DOS "freak" does. Signed, Just another proud DOS "freak" HTH
  14. I believe most of the GUI comes (like you said) from wmploc.dll. I don't know of other WMP files that have that function. More info: http://xpdll.nirsoft.net/wmploc_dll.html But you can change any text string to any other supported language, by hex-editing wmploc.dll in ResHacker (freeware): http://angusj.com/resourcehacker 1st make a backup of your file. Then double-click Menu, Dialog, String Table, and change the text you want. Then compile the script, and save the file. Put the modified file back into %windir%\SYSTEM [usually C:\WINDOWS]. Done. HTH
  15. This is how it should work in theory, I have not tested this. Not sure if it requires 98SE2ME option 3 or not [this file might be depending on WinME's SHELL32.DLL (?)].2 easy steps... 1. Extract SHIMGVW.DLL from WIN_14.CAB [from WinME setup CD-ROM] into %windir%\SYSTEM [%windir% = usually C:\WINDOWS] (run this command from a DOS box): EXTRACT/Y X:\WIN9X\WIN_14.CAB /L %windir%\SYSTEM SHIMGVW.DLL X = your CD/DVD drive letter. Change if necessary to match your settings. 2. Register it (run this command from a DOS box): REGSVR32 %windir%\SYSTEM\SHIMGVW.DLL 3. Done . HTH
  16. If it helps, here are all .NET editions + patches: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#NFR HTH
  17. These are the ones I know of: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#OFV But I haven't checked those links in a while, so some may be gone the 404 way. [?] HTH

It should be, usually Win2000 IE 6.0 SP1 cumulative patches work properly with 98/ME OSes. I just haven't had enough spare time to create a 98/98SE/ME fix yet. Maximus-Decim should have a MDIE6CU update soon, just watch his thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/3-t97816.html HTH
  21. I like XP Startup 98. Pls PM me when you have a beta/RC/final/RTM release, I'll (eventually) add it to the "stickies" + to my site [where I'll also provide a mirror to your file]. HTH
  22. Aaah, shuks [i mean guano]... I guess IESHELL.INF is linked from within LAYOUT1.INF (they depend on each other). And both must be from the same OS [WinME in this case], and they must exist inside same directory. But if you're trying to do this on WinME, there is another way to do this [from within WinME]: Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Windows Setup tab -> scroll down to Fax + Image Preview [or similar] -> check mark -> OK/Apply. If that doesn't work, or if you're trying to do this from within 98SE [+ 98SE2ME option 3 installed], just run this command from a DOS box [*not* from the "Run..." Start menu item]: REGSVR32 %windir%\SYSTEM\SHIMGVW.DLL If that doesn't work, run this one: REGSVR32 /I %windir%\SYSTEM\SHIMGVW.DLL ["Run..." from the Start menu doesn't recognize environment variables] Just make sure SHIMGVW.DLL [from WinME] is already in your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. HTH P.S. Please let me know if this works with 98SE2ME option 3 installed, so I can add SHIMGVW.DLL to option 3. Thanks.
