I've reinstalled ie7, ie8, ie9; none will load even if the installation goes as far as asking to restart the pc.
Generally, I use firefox. But there is an application that requires IE. The IE add-on doesn't help. [similarly for Chrome]
Anti-virus is turned off and neither the 32 bit or 64 bit versions load.
Hotfix did not help. Tried to fix registry manually and ran into:
Mshtml.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.
Subsequently, ran into cmdin.dll not found.

IE8 for XP64 is supported by MS here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14805.
The issue has nothing to do with which versions are supported. The setup programs run fine and the iexplore.exe files are where they belong.
