  1. Just as an FYI - one of the latest Microsoft patches (KB2855336) has broken this application. I suspect it's because of the update to the DWM.exe process. Notes from the update:

"2852483 Memory leak occurs in the Dwm.exe process on a Remote Desktop computer that is running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012"

That update is installed here with no issues.

  2. So was the final release only for donators that donated in the past or is it for anyone that donates? Still havent received anything about it.

Donators only got the Final first, as a little bonus. The official release is comming. Seems some people have problems with that and need to post this refrainingly.

    @ DosProbie

Nice script. Actually there is no need to LogOff to make it work. Killing dwm.exe, which will restart instantly is enough :D.

  3. Microsoft always changed system files via Windows update... that's what it is for. On that account, I agree with s1ane77: in-memory patching is way more robust and exactly why UXStyle is superior. Too bad the experimental bits stopped working on win8.1 though (BSOD on install)

    :D : Information about Windows 8.1

UxStyle does not currently support Windows 8.1.

The donation run to fund the development of a UxStyle update was successful. Look for an update soon!

Last info from WithinRafael : http://uxstyle.com/

  4. Personally like the memory way of patching, as UXStyle does. Never faced any problem with Updates from the beginning. Only thing you have to arrange with is the slightly longer boottime. The latter disappeared when changing my system drive to SSD.

    EDIT: @DP

Respect for your test marathon! :thumbup

  5. @ Noel & DosProbie

Might it be a graphics driver related issue? Using here GTX 570 with Forceware 320.49.

A graphics issue was my first thought but I am using a Intel HD 3000 and up til now never had a issue until I enabled updates..

Let me ask you guys this.

.1.) Are you using a custom patched theme with aero glass enable when doing your updates? or

2.) Do you use the default Windows Aero theme with aero glass enable when doing the Updates?

Using UXStyle Patch here with Poison Theme by MrGRiM (can´t stand the default one longer than 10 secs), all is enabled even while running Win Updates.

    do you have KB2855336-x64.msu installed?

    Yep...i have it installed.

  7. Noel, Like i said in my post..

    2) If you Install this update with Aero disabled = No Flashing Black screen

So you must have had Aero glass disabled to get the update to install..DP

Hmmm...interesting, same as Noel i installed it with AeroGlass enabled with no problem on my main machine. Did tests on two VMs with AeroGlass enabled and installed only KB2846071 on both, they restarted with no problems.

  8. Dang! Haha, so I guess I'm not the only one the just had Windows update itself into a crazy mess, I simply disabled glass from AGTweaker and deleted the application for now. Not including today's events, this software has been working perfectly and I'll wait for the full version (which is hopefully soon) - hopefully this recent windows update didn't screw too much with the actual Glass8 process BigMuscle, but from what I'm reading, the issue wan't your software, but the installers like AGTweaker. Best of luck on getting the final product out the door! I'll be one of the first to download it when it arrives, that's for sure!

Hmm...interesting, as it´s working for me after all the updates, i would guess it not beeing an Aero Glass problem. Installed it here without the tweaker, changes can be done easily via Registry :D.

  9. RC 4 is working like a charm here (up to date Win 8 Pro WMC x64). Chapeaux!!! Installed for testing in fully updated ProWMC beeing in Audit-Mode and syspreped/captured afterwards. When running this install in VM, after installing VMware Tools, Glass starts working fine.

    Can´t await the final :D.

  10. Don't worry, guys, C&D letters will be sent the second i won't like BetaArchive actions.

Everything can be cracked, even with hardware protection keys and poly-cripted protected code all over (recall Skype).

What's more important is to make sure that license key and activation system can't be hijacked. I've taken care of that.

Besides, StartIsBack will be cheap

Stay tuned, Beta 3 will come 25/26.

Uhhh yeah, really looking forward to this.

    Regards

  11. Running Beta 2 on my primary system (win 8 pro x64) since i got my invitation. StartIsBack is running flawless in all tested scenarios so far. Btw. i don´t use "Metro"-apps and "Apps"-sceen as well.

Realy love to have my own start orb now.

    Regards

  12. BETA 2 - PRIVATE ONLY

I've sent link and password for donators and pals i trust. Please store it in a safe place and don't share it.

You can try to email me to startisback at gmail dot com and request to join private testing, if you think you're worth it.

Say "thanks" to Pwned@BetaArchive for not being able to test this version. Next public version won't come until i create proper protection system.

Thanks for the trust. Installed immediately after recieving your mail. So far all is running smooth. Have to install some programs next days. Will report any issue found.

Option to change start orb is great for modding the system. Loved that trick in win 7 though.

    Kindest regards

    @roirraW "edor" ehT

Tested your start orbs. For me two working normally (as seen in picture viewer). That dragon one don´t work at all, both variants. Btw. the pirate one is seldomly ugly :D.

I´m using a pack was attached to a win 7 start orb changer-tool.
