  1. After thinking about it more thats what I thought. The HT bus is adjustable from 200-255, but that doesnt get mentioned.
  2. In the spec listed for this AM2 motherboard, under over-clocking it reads (2) Adjustable FSB/DDR ratio. Is that just a confusing way of saying the HT bus multiplier is adjustable?
  3. That board should be able to run upto a 650MHz coppermine I think. See this article.
  4. There are two types of p3's with different cores, Katmai's and Coppermine's. Get the Coppermine version if you can (it has faster L2 cache).
  5. Im pretty sure CnQ is the culprit. If you have a BIOS option to disable/enable CnQ, try disabling it and see what sandra says then.
  6. Could you post the batch file? I looked on your site but none of the filenames I saw looked like they would be it.
  7. Did you install the nforce4 winxp drivers after the installation? Could you be more specific about exactly when the crash occurs...does it always happen at the same time/place as before, or is it random? I have played around with nlite a little, but the questions you are asking are over my head.
  8. That depends on the controller. Some do, some do not. If I know exactly which mass storage controller you are using, I might be able to tell you. Edit: Just noticed you specified the motherboard. The Nvidia SATA controller does not require you to add a driver via F6 for non-RAID configurations like you are using. Is it possible you are using an Nlite'ed install disc?
  9. Enabling APIC will increase the number of available IRQs, which in general is a good thing. I think ACPI must be enabled inorder for APIC to work.
  10. No easy way for Windows to do it automated that I know of, but in that situation all I do is edit the Start menu and just add shortcuts to whatever games I want.
  11. Becareful...retail boxed drives from what I remember typically have only a 1 year warranty. If you go to a computer store and buy an OEM model hard drive, most come with 3 or 5 year warranties.
  12. Someone told me that if you are going to get a wide screen computer monitor, make sure to get one that is 16:9. I cant remember the exact reason but he seemed to know what he was talking about.
  13. Tiger has some real cheap sh*t you should avoid. Not that they dont have anything good, but they have a disproportionately large amount of crap.
  14. I suggest trying a different driver version; grab the latest off the net if you havent already. Are you trying to use the one that came bundled with the video card on CD?
  15. I think the heatsink becomes a problem since not having a heatspreader makes the chip a little shorter.
  16. For the sake of $70 Id say you made the right choice.
  17. What price can you get each for? The x2 3800 is going to be a lot better in the long run because of the second core.
  18. It would be ideal for serving static web content to concurrent users (ie. the web content is stored on the IRAM itself). Pumping out a lot of small randomly accessed files is precisely where the IRAM would completely annihilate a traditional hard drive. I think Gigabyte are collectively a bunch of idiots for not just going to a SATA 2 interface though.
  19. I have a loose wire mesh filter and it really doesnt do much of anything as far as reducing dust buildup inside the case. I have worked with foam filters before, and they do actually stop some dust from getting in because they required cleaning every now and then. I like your idea about the shop vac bag. It would be great if there were fan filters that stopped dust that effectively.
  20. Ive never tried it myself but the PXES thin client OS might be worth a look. The website says it will let you connect to a windows terminal server or citrix server, as well as others. Hardware requirements would be very minimal compared to running a full blown OS, and it would be a lot harder for the users to screw around with the client OS this way.
  21. Huh? The 25 and 35 watt turion chips still fit the bill. The new turion x2 variants wont have increased power requirements either. Actually in power requirements they were the lowest of all (~5 watts). The performance wasnt up to the competitions standards though. The thing that made the transmeta chips so cool is that they werent even x86 chips internally. They were 256bit VLIW and used "code morphing" to translate x86 instructions into its native language on the fly.

  23. Yes, but what does that actually mean and what would the real world effect be of using it? Im just curious because I have been mistakingly using that switch for years because I thought it was something totally different.
