Well then, I guess its time to figure it out huh did you have to use a hex editor or res edit or what for the strings? I will play with it from there.

Not useing CDIMAGE was my problem... soon as I started useing it, everything worked fine.

Has anyone done any editing of the textmode setup? Just simple stuff like changing some of the strings? is it possible? (yes, i did a search and didn't see it )

I have a couple of little games in my $OEM$/$1/Games directory that dont have installers.... How can I create a shortcut to these programs in start/all programs/games? THANKS! (yes, i searched... didnt see it..... but could be blind)

I dont get it!! I am useing a custom boot screen on my computer now... useing boot.ini to choose between original and custom.... works great. so, I take kernel1.exe rename it to ntoskrnl.exe compress it to ntoskrnl.ex_ and place it in my i386 directory for my unattended cd. I have replaced the stc os.dll file to disable file protection. when i run my new set up i get the following error: The file NTOSKRNL.EXE was not copied correctly. The file setup placed on your hard drive is not a valid windows XP system image. If you installed from a CD, there may be a problem with the windows xp cd. ive searched through the forms and found all sorts of solutions while windows is running, but nothing about copying it in setup... any ideas? same here, BUT ONLY, if i use a custom bootscreen, or an old one. if i EDIT the one that comes with SP2, and add my images to it, it works, BUT, the image starts showing fine, then, its colord go nuts, and the moving dots apear. i don't really know what the problem is, the colors change, like when you have a 24 bit bitmap, and save it as a 16 bits one. i tried using 16 and 24 bits bitmaps and the same thing happens. what should i do ? OK, I think I found the answer to our problems. The ntfs.sys corrupt error is caused by useing the wrong version of ntoskrnl.exe. For SP2 is should be version 5.1.2600.2180. If you use anything else, you will get that error. Now, as for the color problems.... http://www.bootxp.net/ has a program that will take care of it for us (I havent tried it yet, but will soon) If you want to do it yourself this guy has a great guide. http://www.geocities.com/thejjoelc/XPbootcolors.html It looks to be a royal pain in the tail section, especially if you have never done any hex editing (like me) but everything looks step by step, so Im gonna give it a try.

I went through the past forums and didnt see this one... I followed your instructions for slip streaming and creating the answer files... here are the problems I run into.... 1. EZ CD creator tells me that it must rename the $OEM$ directory (and a few files) to conform if I choose ISO file system. so I used jouliette everything seems to work fine... EXCEPT it take like 4 hours to install!! What am I doing wrong??
