  1. Without any uesr programs, Vista used 225 MB of ram, and XP used 94 MB. It will take alot of ram to simulte a network environment under longhorn + vista... I should have gotten 4 GB of ram.
  2. The thing which puzzle me the most is why vista need so much ram during installing stage.
  3. Is there anyway to get it? And can you even install it on a standard PC. Probably under vmware? Dont' know much about it.
  4. You can't get OSX to run on standard PC... Even if you can, you'll get into hardware issue, TPM and EFI... Apple starts to support x86 CPU not because they want to sell it's OS, it's because they have problem with its original supplier. And very unlikely Apple will want to release OSX to the PC market. Else, they can't overcharge their overpriced MAC computer.
  5. That's what I felt too. For those who say Vista is rubbish, they never say what is. And those in favor of Vista, they never say what is good about it too. Vista is just an OS. I dont' like Microsoft for it's OS, I like Microsoft product because every vendor build their product around it. Every hardware I bought it supply Window driver but not linux driver. Even if I lost my driver CD, all I need to is click on my device icon and have Vista search it for me. If not because everyone of my game works on XP, I already switched to linux already. And might I mention Half Life2 only works on Vista and not XP.
  6. ok... window lover... maybe if they don't charge us 600$ for vista ultimate I'll submit reported errors. Maybe because you have been using XP for so many years. Any different OS takes learning curve. My only hope is Vista, Longhorn isn't "too different" from XP and Server 2003. And it would be made possible to interoperate with older system. They kind of have to. Bloating is a way of Microsoft saying we work alot on the new feature, give us money now. It's like all those Vista promotion site saying blah blah blah, more secure, blah blah blah, easier to use, blah blah blah... Without saying exactly what is better.
  7. ok but... why... The few things I can list for vista is... 1) game developer will be forced to vista since no more directx support. 2) rework of the IP protocol stack 3) more wireless support(?? Don't know about it, never use wireless before) ps. quick comment about linux and open source. You can sell and develop "closed source" applications under Linux. But you can't take existing "open source" application and make it "close source". ps. about firefox and IE. They are both just a web browser. You can't blame people for saying firefox is more secure because IE have way too many security holes "in the past".
  8. Anyway to do it? The default is tile view. Right now I got to manually do it to every folder and every forder I create.

    Can't ftp

I can ftp to a server. But when trying to download file ">GetTempFileName calloc:I/O Error" Anyone else?
  10. My impression is it felt like XP with slight improvement.
  11. every time I changed a security policy (account policy, local policy), I need to restart the computer for it to take affect. how can I apply the policy without restarting the computer?
  12. I created a dns server as a member server, removed all it's root hints and does not use forwarder. my connection is adsl and I set the dns server to use my local dns server instead of obtain an dns server automatically. my question is why can I still do lookups for external site such as "www.google.com"? the root hint is removed, and it is not set as a forwarder, it shouldn't know what server to query.
  13. it is not possible for a zone to contain multiple primary dns server right? it can only contain 1 primary and multiple secondary?
  14. is it possible to change my IP address directly from CLI?
  15. Is it possible to change my IP address in 2003 from CLI?
