  5. I had some odd problems after integrating these hotfixes (925398, 927891, 939373, on xp sp2, wmp10, ie6) to my last unattended cd.

Installation was going quite well but daemon-tools <cut> nero <cut> just crashed everytime, especially when executing msi <cut> I checked with process explorer several times).

<cut> I also had problems patching supreme commander, wich also use msi <cut>

I didn't test any further and made an unattended cd without the last 3 hotfixes I mentionned, and I can now install nero and patch supcom ^^.

KB927891 is related to msi instaler try not to integrate it.

@the_guy: Please mark this hotfix as problematic. It is now confirmed.

  6. Nilfred: Why do you think KB927891 is a trojan horse directly from Microsoft?

I have checked it out and it appears harmless. Only it has a DLL file to update the Windows Installer engine...

Not so harmless: May also allow "harmless" critical updates instalation without user intervention.

Version 3?: Why a V3 replaces not a V2 but an oldie never seen KB916089?

2 part?: Please note that this update is the first part of a two-part update that is the comprehensive solution to the problem. In June, another update will involve the Windows Update client. The update for the Windows Update client will also be automatically offered through Automatic Updates.

IMMO if there is any doubt then there is no doubt. I was expecting something like this from M$.

Will see what the 2nd part do this month (now)...

  7. WTF? Nobody else notice the new updates? Deja vu?

  9. 1. Extract IE7 setup package

Forgot code to extract because already extracted

    2. Extract IE7-KB928090-WindowsXP-x86-esn.exe

FOR %%I IN (*.exe) DO IF NOT EXIST %%~nI ECHO %%~nI&%%I /Q /X:%%~nI

    3. Overwrite all files from KB928090 in IE7 with the same name.

    4. Move on to update directory on both.

    5. Copy kb928090-ie7.cat from KB928090\update to IE7\update

    6. Merge contents of update.ver files. That is: entries with the same name from KB928090\update\update.ver replaces entries in IE7\update\update.ver

    7. Some registry entries still should be added for KB928090 don't show up.

Resulting update.ver and KB928090-IE7.inf registry entries attached (Spanish)

    KB928090_IE7.zip

HIGHLY batchable, but don't wait for me... I did it by hand.

    Happy editing! :thumbup

  10. They're out now if you know where to look :)

    I'm sure not here
