  1. Of course it's a USB 2.0 controller. I tested it on two different configurations and results are the same - transfers are slower on Win2k. Anyways, I've kind of fixed this issue by using a copy manager called SuperCopier2. I've just tested a few different managers and this seems to be the fastest one. I used to use TeraCopy before but it was even slower than the default system manager which is also very slow. Not only transfers are weak but also just exploring the drive is kind of slow. I think there must be some kind of a problem in a way Windows Explorer manages this flash drive.
  2. What can the reason for having very slow (<1 MB writing) transfers under Windows 2000 when copying files to a 16 GB USB flash drive? The same flash drive works with 3,5 MB writing speed under Windows 7. Some time ago I also copied some files on it under XP and as far as I remember, transfers were normal. Has anyone experienced such slow transfers specifically under Win2k?
  3. 2000 is faster than XP but you probably won't notice any difference on such a computer
  4. Yes, I tried every combination possible and the only one working is the one containing 3.1.1540.25 sys file. The inf file doesn't seem to matter at all. Anyway, I 'fixed' this problem by connecting all hard drives to the PCI-E SAS Controller so I don't need the AMD AHCI drivers anymore.
  5. WildBill, is it the final version or are you planning to add some more icons later on? I'm asking because I want to translate it into Polish
  6. AMD says that the newest XP 32-bit driver for AMD SB7xx is 3.1.1540.127. You've already made a Win2k version of it and it doesn't work with my motherboard
  7. WildBill, I have one more question You said it is necessary to remove references to the .cat file in the update.inf file as it would not be signed anyway. What is going to happen if we just leave these references as they are? I checked some hotfixes made by BlackWingCat from his Windows Legacy Update page and as far as I see, he just leaves them together with the appropriate .cat file inside the .cab archive.
  8. I've already figured it out and replaced the new ones I prefer the classic look but also there is one big advantage of those images - they are gray until you put mouse cursor over them. Too many (unnecessary) colours on screen distract me How about the Internet Explorer cumulative update?

  10. WildBill, I have a few questions: 1. MS11-012 - is it possible to keep the old toolbar images while still applying all the other changes introduced with this patch? 2. MS10-071 was superseded by MS10-090. Why do you still keep the first one available to download? Thank you for your hard work anyway
  11. I also think so but I wasn't sure because they are different from hotfix to hotfix. Sometimes it's just a very short set of strings and sometimes it's a long one containing all the information about different languages, times zones, etc. I'm working on a project to make an Update Rollup 2 containing all the hotfixes from 2005 till today. I need to make a single update.inf file but these strings are very confusing I think I'll leave only a very basic set of strings containing information about service pack, hotfix title and so on.
  12. WildBill, I have a question concerning the "[strings]" entry in update.inf file. Does all these strings really matter? Apart from the first ones about service pack number, name of the hotfix etc. the rest of them seem to be pretty useless. Still, they differ from hotfix to hotfix. I wonder if they make any real difference. For example, there is something like this: BITS_DISPLAY_NAME = "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" BITS_DESCRIPTION = "Transfers files in the background using idle network bandwidth. If the service is disabled, then any functions that depend on BITS, such as Windows Update or MSN Explorer will be unable to automatically download programs and other information." It's from the Update Rollup 1 for Win2k. Deleting it doesn't seem to cause any problem when installing the rollup. I wonder what's the purpose of such strings? napagent_displayname="Network Access Protection Agent" napagent_description="Allows windows clients to participate in Network Access Protection" hkmsvc_displayname= "Health Key and Certificate Management Service" hkmsvc_description="Manages health certificates and keys (used by NAP)" eaphost_displayname="Extensible Authentication Protocol Service" eaphost_description="Provides windows clients Extensible Authentication Protocol Service" eapqec_displayname="EAP Quarantine Enforcement Client" eapqec_description="Provides EAP based enforcement for NAP" dot3svc_displayname="Wired AutoConfig" dot3svc_description="This service performs IEEE 802.1X authentication on Ethernet interfaces" This one is from one of your unofficial updates.
  13. Yes but the OS doesn't shut down correctly because of these drivers so the computer also won't turn off.
  14. Mine has SB710 and I'm 100% sure that this issue is related to the AHCI driver as everything works perfectly when I switch back to the 3.1.1540.25 version of the driver. Apart from the slow booting of course...
  15. I managed to solve this problem by copying files for IE6 from the XP MUI. Windows 2000 MUI contains MUI files for IE5 and they don't work with IE6 as file versions are different (5 vs. 6). After copying IE6 MUI files into the 2K MUI and installing it, it works I only left the original .inf file from the IE5 MUI and replaced all the other files.
  16. I tried all your suggestions and also did a manual install of all of these drivers but still the only one working is the slow one, ie. version 25. I even tried using the .inf file from 25 and the driver from 53 but the problem of not shutting down properly is still present. I think the problem lies inside the driver (ahci86.sys) file, not in the .inf one or the system registry. I really hope there is a solution Still I will probably continue to use the 53 version and shut the PC down manually as it's just much faster than the older driver (25). I would be really thankful if anyone with suitable knowledge could edit the newer drivers to work properly under Win2k.
  17. Yes, I tried installing the official drivers from AMD's homepage but system does not boot (BSOD) after having them installed.
  18. I have a Foxconn ML76-K 3.0 motherboard with AMD 760G chipset. I want to use BlackWingCat's drivers for AMD available here: http://blog.livedoor.jp/blackwingcat/archives/844979.html There are 4 versions available: 3.1.1540.25 3.1.1540.127 3.1.1548.155 3.2.1540.53 The problem is that when I install one of the last three, ie. 127, 155 or 53 the shutdown command does not work properly. The system seems to shut down but the PC does not power off - the screen goes off but fans are still working and I have to manually turn it off by long press of the power button. On the other hand, 25 works but it's painfully slow. In terms of boot time 53 is definitely the fastest one and it's the one I want to use. When using 25 system boots almost 20-25 seconds slower than when using 53 To summarise - I want to use 53 but shutdown/reboot does not work. 25 works properly but it's very slow in terms of boot time. Enhanced IDE instead of AHCI is fast in terms of booting time (almost the same as 53) but transfers are noticeably slower and instable compared to AHCI. Are these drivers buggy? Are there maybe other drivers available for this chipset that work under Win2k? Help please
  19. Actually I need it for Windows 2000 I've found out that MUI for IE6 was called Multilingual Menus and Dialog Boxes for Internet Explorer but I'm still unable to find it
  20. It works!! B) HFSVCPACK_SW1 is the right place to be for this hotfix.
  21. As far as I know and from my experience I can say that Java JRE6 Update 24 (the newest one) does not need .NET Framework to install, at least on Win2K.
  22. It's my pleasure I'm going to try putting KB896414 into HFSVCPACK_SW1 folder and see what will happen.
  23. Windows Security Configuration Editor - Scesrv.dll 5.0.2195.7100. SP5. After slipstreaming this "hotfix (by request)" in HFSLIP and installing the system, language settings in regional options in control panel become grayed out: I did several tests and I can say 100% surely that it's this hotfix to cause the problem. I lost 2 days in order to find out which one of the nearly 190 hotfixes I was trying to integrate was causing this problem. Anyway unless you don't need regional options I would recommend not to integrate KB896414. The funny thing is that there is no issue when you install it under an already working system.
  24. There are many programs that require .NET Framework so to avoid compatibility issues I'd recommend installing at least .NET 2.0 with Service Pack 2. In case of older versions (or unofficial .NET 3.5 SP1 by BlackWingCat) I'd say don't install them unless you have an application which clearly says that it requires one of them.
  25. I'm looking for a MUI Pack (Polish) for Internet Explorer 6. It's not available to download at Windows Update. I've also searched for it around the Net but couldn't find any files to download. Please tell me if you know where one can download it.
