Updating this thread for the people that will end up here through search engines:
In Windows 10 the registry key is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\iaStorAC\Parameters\DeviceCreate a new dword value named EnableAPM with a 0 value and hdd head parking is gone.
Note that iaStorAC might be iaStorA or iaStorAV in some cases.

Depends what you want from an OS. Design wise 10 is a beast from my pov. Customization wise it is pretty close to XP.
In your OP you are right about that 10 has display issues with high dpi scaling and it does not look optimal on some devices, but that is part of the trade-off. XP does not have tls 1.1, 1.2 and dx10+. Vista, 7 and 8 are design failures. So, it is always a matter of perspective.

After 15 years power using windows XP I moved to 10 yesterday. Finally a worthy OS to replace XP with.

I have no idea if this local proxy will cause lag. I need the tls 1.2 on XP for Starcraft HD, which will be released this summer. If you want upload the program somewhere, but I won't be able to test it until the game releases.

Yep, that was it. Today I upgraded to SP3 and it is working fine!

Starting with Firefox 52, Adobe Primetime will no longer be downloaded at all in Firefox. The browser will be released on March 7, 2017 if the schedule holds.

I tried all possible Mozilla settings to try running that h264 decoding, but with no success - the video simply don't start. The reason is probably I am running XP with SP2 and to upgrade to 3 I have to make a lot of backups, because many things are tweaked, so I am not testing this option any time soon. The blurring/tearing with webm/flash is related to the fact that the video can't receive hardware acceleration. It does so only when the flash player (v23) is in fullscreen and there is no option to enforce it on non-fullscreen. Trying older flash version has pro/cons, but no time to do this atm. The webm is always software accelerated and I have no idea if this is so on other systems. I will check more things next week and write here if there is some solution.

I received the H.264 checkmarks from https://www.youtube.com/html5 however when I start a video it doesn't load. Also, the about:support page in Mozilla v47 doesn't fully load when Adobe plugin is enabled. I expect this to be unsolvable issue for me (I just got unlucky with the XP version I guess). The main reason I wanted to use H.264 decoding is because I have strange blurring while using the WebM VP8/9 format or the flash player on some videos. It doesn't matter what quality the video is run at (hd or not there are jerky lines while the video is played, which are gone when using H.264 at Chrome browser).
So, my question to you is: Are you able to view all youtube videos for example without any problems when using html5 WebM format (or flash player) on Mozilla at WinXP?

I renamed C:\windows\system32\batmeter.dll to .bak and it worked. One minus is volume icon can disappear too.

Hi all, I found this thread on the web searching for how to remove my usb "safely remove hardware icon" from system tray. I use winXP and I don't want to hide the icon, but to remove it (I actually tried Icon Remover program, but it doesn't work good). I would be glad to hear any sort of ideas, thanks in advance!

Miracast - how to see channel used?

Hi everyone,
I use Miracast to stream from laptop to TV. The connection is always done on the 2.4Ghz band, but sometimes it lags, other times it's fine. I suppose the reason for that is the channel used is random from 1 to 11. Is there a way to see what the currently used Miracast channel is?
