  1. Thank you tomasz :)

About sata support, the latest run of driverpack base worked like a charm when just integrating sata drivers for so called `text mode' install. Now everything goes smooth during OS install but I actually can't tell why :P

And, about IE removal... I gave up and kept it. The howto is indeed clear and detailed but I'm too lazy now for jumping into a trial-and-error procedure... after all, an OS installed into a VM will never reach the internet, won't it?

  2. A few updates in bristols' page are marked as server and, since I am slipstreaming a win2k professional edition, I skip them.

Anyway, after booting my shiny new win2k I've found these files:

    • winspool.drv is already on my system. It is not the latest, though. So I add the fix for KB906952 which provides a more recent version
    • tapisrv.dll same issue, so I added the fix for KB925783
    • llssrv.exe is an old version but the update for KB974783 provides also LLSCUSTOM.DLL which is not on my system. So I extract llssrv.exe and put it into replace\i386 subdir, so avoid putting the whole hotfx into HF\. Note that the KB article states the update is for any win2k edition, nevertheless the security bulletin only reports the server edition is affected.

  3. Now, almost everything went ok, I'm in the stage of testing my shiny new win2k disc image. I slipstreamed dotNet2.0sp2 via the silentdotnetmaker , directx9 updates appear ok and mdac components are the latest as well.

Well, while doing this, still I'm stuck at two single issues.

    1. I would like to integrate SATA support into my disc image. Just tried this with driverpack base but it breaks my installation. I know there is the universal driver uniata.sys which appears to be the simplest more flexible solution. Did anyone used it? Is it simple as it seems? and, most important, does it work?
    2. I'm in the mood of removing IE at all, most pages show in detail the needed steps. Well, there are actually too many pages saying that. Can anyone point me to a working procedure?

  4. To repack you can use this method.

Hey! It's very simple... and it WORKS!

    Thank you very muck tomasz!

Installation went almost perfect (apart from update KB971913 which didn't install and during installation shows a help box... I'll check this) and most important, KB921606 and KB927779-v2 ita custom updates were installed the right way! (mmhh, I think I can provide a link to them as well).

Now, some other minor issues have to be fixed but... I'll fix these tomorrow...

  5. You can still find it here.

    Great!

    Updated `update.inf' also!

Now, about mdac, I'm in the stage of unpacking both your mdac281 and mdac253 & 281 (ita versions). Are the updated binaries into `update' subdir or into `files' subdir?

And when I have replaced these binaries, how will I get a single exe package again? Which tool am I missing? Perhaps PE Tool?

Sorry for my newbie questions, I really don't know how MS updates actually work.

  6. I just got my MS hotfix list up-to-date with bristols' page, indeed I need some support.

    1. KB921606
Although an italian official update does exist (office2000-KB921606-FullFile-ITA.exe), it doesn't install since it complains I miss Office2000 :( (which BTW is true) but... is there a way for extracting `Msconv97.dll' and put it into REPLACE subdir?
    2. KB835730
In order to slipstream this update, a registry fix has to be provided into HFSVCPACK. My question is: which registry fix? The article KB835730 suggests a fix but in the most left column in bristols' page he links to a different article (KB830407) in which a different fix is explained, why? [incidentally, the KB835730 fix is identical to the one suggested into KB891861, which in turn points to KB919521]
    3. MDAC 2.8SP1
I really would be able to integrate MDAC2.81 into my slipstreamed win2k and this can be done for the most, since many updates are multilanguage, but MDAC281-KB927779-v2-x86-ENU.exe is english only. How can the same package be built for ita?

    Thanks anyone!

And BTW, thank you for your big effort, guys! :thumbup

  7. brutus1234,

I'm getting finished with the basic version of Update Rollup 2 for Win2k... would you perhaps be interested in making the Italian version too? The only thing you would have to do its to supply me (upload somewhere) an archive with Italian language updates (official updates only). It's just too time consuming for me to download them one by one. If you do it for me, then it's very easy to make an Italian version of the Rollup.

Please answer if you're interested. I'll give you a list of updates that are needed (around 90 files).

Of course I can provide a comprehensive hotfix package and host it on an external site (it will require some time, though).

Just let me read that list! :thumbup (I just had a look at them... my actual hotfix list counts more than 200 files, more than twice your 90 ones... maybe I'm making some mistake... )

Now, what do you exactly mean with a "update rollup"? If I remember well it is a single exe/msi file, ready to be installed/slipstreamed in just a single step, isn't it?

  8. Guys, I need your help just about bristols' updates page.

Well, I've been away from these pages for some weeks and, of course, in the meanwhile the updates page was... updated

Now, I already own many of the listed hotfixes but how can I say which one has been replaced since then? And which one has been added?

I mean, is there a fast/easy way to detect just the new/replaced hotfixes instead of checking them all one by one?

How do you guys do this? Do you use the 2k file checker? (I can't because my hotfix collection is stored in a set of subdirectories with custom names while my HF\ dir is usually empty)

  9. Is there a way I can copy some custom files in custom folders after install?

I mean, I would like to make available some sort of a README.TXT directly on admin's desktop (c:\documents and settings\administrator\desktop). Is this possible?

Further, can I set a default wallpaper (eventually adding a custom bmp to the windows folder)?

    Thank you.

  10. Just as an off-the-cuff and possibly useless suggestion (inspired by tomasz86's report about a problem with slipstreaming 896414) - try downgrading Scesrv.dll to the version from SP4. See if that solves it. However I fear it won't be so easy to discover the cause. :\

    Well, it worked!!! :thumbup

When slipstreaming I left out KB896414 and all worked as expected, also installing KB896414 AFTER installing the OS provided me with the latest scesrv.dll with no issues at all.

    Thank you!

Edit: notice that KB917321 (which provides SCESRV.DLL ver 5.0.2195.7080) is not a valuable solution, since it behaves exactly as KB896414 and creates issues with appwiz.cpl if slipstreamed.

  11. AAARGH, I NEED HELP!!!

Oh no!, now adding these 11 hotfixes results in a crash into appwiz.cpl!

I attached a screenshot, when I click on "Setup Windows components" (it is circled in red) the app suddenly stops with an error of insufficient rights. This happens even if I log in as administrator.

It never happened using all the hotfixes listed onto bristols page, just now, using these latest ones listed above.

Does this also happen to you?

Can you suggest me how to detect the hotfix/hotfixes generating this?

  12. So brutus1234, try extracting Ntprint.dll, putting it into the REPLACE folder, and renaming it Ntprint.dl_ (yep, replace the last L with an underscore, so that it looks like a compressed system file).

Is it not a problem if it try to decompress?

The file can be compressed with makecab easily.

Thanks Maxfutur, this is what I did, the file was compressed to NTPRINT.DL_ via makecab then copied to the REPLACE\I386 folder and I see it's perfectly installed.

  13. Thanks brutus1234. The updates page will be updated soon. :thumbup

Well, this hotfix needs more care, it won't slipstream!

I just checked it and it indeed provides Ntprint.dll ver 5.0.2195.6745, but still I can't find it into the new slipstreamed win2k install. Why?

Has it to be copied into some other folder than HF\ ?

  14. This is a very simple trick I try every time a KB article seems not to point to an EXE package. In most cases it works.

As an example, I used this trick to download the hotfix for KB932590 (as you can see, the page doesn't contain a link to the download page).

    1. open a KB article containing a link to the package download page (example: KB818383)
    2. clic on "View and request hotfix downloads"
    3. edit the URL of the new page, replacing the article number (in this example, replace 818383 with 932590)
    4. press ENTER and... that's all, folks! :thumbup

  15. It seems that 932590 was released by MS for Windows 2000, but later retracted

This is true, it was released by microsoft as part of SP5, and now I remember how I got it. I will post the full procedure here.

  16. It seems that 932590 was released by MS for Windows 2000, but later retracted

So, chances are that my Windows2000-KB932590-x86-ITA.EXE is genuine from MS!!! :w00t:

Mmhh, is there a way to check for this? Is digital signature enough?

If really it is from microsoft, it is quite rare. I think I can post it on a hosting site in order to make it available to as much users as possible.

  17. 838141 - 839228 already includes Rastapi.dll 5.0.2195.6824.

    ???

    Oh, yes, you're right...

So, why in my previously slipstreamed win2k this file was older? mmhh, I'll investigate this...

Ok, this is a funny joke by MS.

    KB839228 should provide:

    • 5.0.2195.1569 Fips.sys
    • 5.0.2195.6883 Ipsec.sys
    • 5.0.2195.6882 Ipsecmon.exe
    • 5.0.2195.6824 Netdiag.exe
    • 5.0.2195.6882 Oakley.dll
    • 5.0.2195.6882 Polagent.dll
    • 5.0.2195.6882 Polstore.dll
    • 5.0.2195.6824 Rasman.dll
    • 5.0.2195.6872 Rasmans.dll
    • 5.0.2195.6824 Rastapi.dll

but OOOPS! :( someone forgot to include FIPS.SYS, RASMAN.DLL and, of course, RASTAPI.DLL. Funny, isn't it?

I just checked both ITA package and ENU package, so I assume the others are missing the same files.

Edit: about KB932590, if it appears on your windows2000 updates page, then I think it should have a different background, meaning it's unofficial.
