  1. Dynamic RAM will be very useful if we can increase and decrease the ram. [EDIT] Found more info here http://hypervoria.com/hyper-v/hyper-v-2-0-feature-overview.aspx
  2. I for one welcome our new plier overlords.
  3. Yup if you see it let us know, we will clean the monkey cage
  4. What application did you install? It might have created a log file in the %temp% folder with details about the changes it made to the system. Also it's suspicious to get a BSoD from a program, usually requires a bad kernel driver, or faulty hardware.
  5. You can launch programs from Task Manager in the file menu. The local browser cannot bypass a network filter. Its not an exploit.
  6. This might answer most of your questions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibernate_(OS_feature)#Microsoft_Windows
  7. Yup here are a couple Intel adapters that can do Wake on WLAN: http://www.intel.com/network/connectivity/products/wireless/prowireless_mobile.htm
  8. Is the upgrade worth it, is really a personal decision. In a nutshell I feel that 7 is worth it because it requires less maintenance than XP; time is money.
  9. It probably works because the active system volume is now a hidden 100 MB partition, which is actually assigned the letter C according to diskpart in WinPE. I wouldnt describe this as a feature, rather a side effect. Just my guess. BTW how would this be useful?
  10. Why are you using WinInstall LE or repacking in the first place? You can create an administrative install point by running: visioviewer.exe /extract:C:\temp
  11. I personally use IE8 and Srware Iron because there is a portable version. As for the "privacy garbage" here are the facts: http://www.google.com/chrome/intl/en/privacy.html Here is another fork http://www.chromeplus.org/
  12. Yeah Microsoft Security Essentials is flagging it too: "TrojanClicker:Win32/Yabector.B" Here is the VirusTotal report http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/f5739dbba597af0aa7d3dcc521d8059c1ad4b1d8d5d8e60ee3204ff8feb781ed-1268282792 Whats weird is if I unpack it using UniExtract and then scan the folder, it finds nothing; so I guess its the installer? Process Explorer can release handles, though its a more advanced tool, its also 64-bit compatible. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
  13. 'Restore previous folder windows at logon' is still in Folder Options on the View tab.
  14. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924460
  15. Just to add some things I think might be worth mentioning... Windows 7 creates a separate 100MB system partition to store the WinRE environment for startup repair, bitlocker, and as a EFI system partition (ESP). By default a volume letter is not assigned, so it doesn't appear in Computer, but it does in Disk Management and Windows Setup partitioning wizard. You can erase a drive including the bootsectors using diskpart which is accessible from Windows Setup using the Shift+F10 shortcut.
  16. 1 What motherboard do you have? 2 What is the driver version for your storage controller? 3 Which architecture are you using, x86 or x64? 4 What is the firmware of the hard disks?
  17. Thanks for the news, useful stuff. Also nice to see new paint on the sysinternals site
  18. A new version of Microsoft Security Essentials became availible a few days ago. http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/ The digital signature was created ‎February ‎21, ‎2010. No news/changelog has been posted.
  19. Well in XP if you disabled the Plug and Play or Event Log service it would do that. In Windows 7 though you cannot disable the Plug and Play service, and disabling the Windows Even Log doesnt do that anymore.
  20. I also use PMS, for WTV support I would recommend bumping this topic over there http://ps3mediaserver.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=246&hilit=wtv&start=10 A codec pack might be interrupting the conversion, you might be able to tell using GraphEdit or GraphStudio http://blog.monogram.sk/janos/tools/monogram-graphstudio/ http://wtvwatcher.codeplex.com/ As an alternative maybe DVRMSToolbox http://babgvant.com/files/folders/eadt/default.aspx
  21. Hmm I looked into this a little and I think the root of the problem is ICS is forcing the Public network location profile on the adapter facing the LAN. Note ICS is enabled on the adapter facing the WAN. Since the LAN adapter has the Public profile, filesharing is blocked by the firewall. There is a GPO (Network List Manager Policies) to set the default profile for unidentified networks as Private instead of Public, but it doesn't work correctly. Even if you disable the firewall on the LAN interface (and leave it enabled on the WAN interface), filesharing is still not functional for some reason...
  22. I've never heard of an mmc going blank before; maybe it's still loading. Disconnect your scanner to see if that is what is causing the hanging. Also check your cpu usage when you open device manager. BTW another way you can see device info is msinfo32 - just type that into the StartMenu.
