  1. From that screenshot, it takes about 100 seconds for sppsvc to stop and about 140 seconds for mmcss. Those services are the Software Protection Platform Service and Multimedia Class Scheduler Service respectively. The first is part of the Windows Activation Technologies so I am guessing there is something interfering with that, the latter is probably due to a buggy audio driver.
  2. Well you cannot upgrade Windows per say between architectures, it requires a new install. I see your past that though, so your topic title should really be about user accounts / permissions. The default account is a member of the Administrators group, it just has admin approval enabled so you get the UAC prompts. Not only is creating an administrator account therefor unnecessary but it sounds like you might not have done so correctly. I recommend going back to the original account and adjusting the UAC settings. You can change User Account Control Settings in the Control Panel.
  3. DirectX Diagnostics is accessible via: StartMenu > Run > dxdiag or Winkey+r > dxdiag However you did find what matters, the device and driver version. SiS chipsets IMHO are garbage. Do you notice problems with video playback in other apps? There is a driver update for that you may want to try http://www.sis.com/download/agreement.php?url=/download/
  4. I notice your having problems with more than just the video in that screenshot. The icons and controls are artifacting, my guess is a problem with the video card / drivers. What video card and drivers are installed? Check with dxdiag.
  5. http://kernelnewbies.org/Linux_2_6_33 Some nice improvements
  6. That screenshot is strange: in the Volume List it shows the volume F capacity as 68.36GB and in the Graphical View as 298.09GB. Maybe this WinToFlash program tried to clean the destination disk, or messed up the partition table; I am not sure.
  7. Perhaps change the jpg file association to another program, or reinstall the office picture viewer, or run "regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll".
  8. Nice find, this is useful if you are pushing a lot of network traffic to the child partitions and seeing packet loss.
  9. What is the model # for the wlan adapter? We need to verify you have the correct drivers. You can also get the HWID from Device Manager. So now it works if you disable security but doesnt work if security is enabled? What modes work/dont work?
  10. Firewall Builder helps create a conf (settings) file and upload to a network firewall via ssh all within its simple gui. The idea is you dont need to be familiar with the syntax of different firewalls and helps manage multiple devices on a network. Another idea I have is to setup ICS on your pc so that it becomes the gateway and use a firewall on that to block traffic from certain devices.
  11. Local group policy editor (gpedit.msc) Computer Configuration\Administrative Template\System\System Restore Turn off System Restore
  12. You should disable the AV to see how much it is responsible. Might also want to run a 'netstat -e' to check for network errors - though I don't think this would appear in cpu usage.
  13. When you put the domain name in the host file you are basically blocking the dns lookup. It probably worked for a while because you had resolved a google ip before and it was still in the dns cache.
  14. Only thing I can think of is Firewall Builder http://www.fwbuilder.org/ Otherwise I think you will need to find another gateway device that has management software. The reason most network products use web management is so they are immediately cross platform and dont need java.
  15. Pick one: systeminfo wmic os get FreePhysicalMemory wmic os get FreeVirtualMemory wmic os get TotalVirtualMemorySize wmic os get TotalVisibleMemorySize
  16. I haven't used Tomato firmware in a while, but DD-WRT has Access Restrictions. You can create a policy for each device, based on IP or MAC, with the default setup as Deny and Disable. When you need to just check Enable and Apply. However IMO this feature has been buggy in some builds. http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Access_Restrictions
  17. Here is a link to the TechNET bulletin with information and downloads for affected versions of Windows http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/MS10-015.mspx Support page with file information http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977165 For XP these are the files that are modified: BTW Safe Mode will load the normal kernel even if the PAE switch is enabled in boot.ini [edit] OK I skimmed through that topic, and it looks like these systems had a rootkit (TDSS) with an infected miniport driver, commonly atapi.sys or iastor.sys. These rooted system files/drivers do not reference the updated kernel correctly when loaded and that is what causes a BSOD. As some people where able to get their systems to boot by replacing these files, even though they are not part of this update. Read more about the TDSS rootkit http://www.prevx.com/blog/139/Tdss-rootkit...ns-the-net.html
  18. Sure something like this del /s a.exe,b.exe or for /r %G in (a.exe,b.exe) do del %G
  19. Just tried LogMeIn Express, it's similar but easier to use IMO https://secure.logmein.com/US/products/express/Default.aspx No Java No account or registration needed. Helper can view/control through webpage using flash plugin. User just clicks on Share, a applet is downloaded to the %temp% directory, no dependencies, and it autoruns.
  20. Well if it was just one partition then it was either a single primary partition or a logical inside an extended partition. What I would do is if possible is clone the drive as is right now, before attempting any further recovery. Then I would if possible remove the drive from the enclosure and connect it directly via IDE/SATA. Also open the disk with a disk editor like HxD to browse the sectors in hex and make sure they're not all zeros. Can you tell us the model of the drive?
  21. I think PE via WAIK or OPK is the way to go. You can deploy a WIM file via ImageX or DISM and then shutdown via "wpeutil shutdown", this can all be scripted into startnet.cmd in a few minutes. I stopped using Ghost long ago since it had problems with RAID, LUNs > 2TB, SATA, AHCI etc. IIRC Ghost did have a shutdown switch though. Another solution although I wouldn't recommend it is a PDU (Power Distribution Unit) with remote power cycling.
  22. Hey just in case some other people missed it, there is a free/opensource video to dvd program called DVD Flick. I just used it and I prefer it over ConvertXtoDVD. http://www.dvdflick.net/index.php screenshot
  23. I might be missing something, but from this page http://www.hp.com/united-states/campaigns/beats/audio.html It looks like it comes with TRAKTOR LE http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/pro.../dj/traktor-le/ "Beats" seems to refer to a headphone line too.
  24. Looked good until it said it requires the Java plugin. I think if the end user has Windows 7, then using the Problem Steps Recorder (psr.exe) and emailing the zip file is going to be less trouble. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/dd320286.aspx I like using Remote Assistance (msra /offerRA) just wish it supported voice.
