  1. I don't think (I'm really sure actually), the Seagate 7200.11 fix doesn't work

on these older Maxtor drives, since they have entirely different firmware.

I also only know the diagnostics pin-outs of Seagate PATA-drives, was never able

to find the correct pins on PATA Maxtors...

Any other option to fix that drive?

  2. As i already told you it's an nfts problem and you won't be able to do a chkdsk from windows as it will reboot when you plug the drive. You need to boot with a linux Os like System Rescue CD with ntfs support (to see your datas) it might be able to mount the volume. And if you want to fix the partition, you'll need to resize it with linux.

Hi allen2 thank you for the informative and usefull answer! :)

    I've downloaded the systemrescuecd.

How do I use that software for the repairing?

What are the commands which I have to do?

I typed wizard and chose the first option and get a grapic mode.

    What do I do now?

    Many Thanks!

  3. Hi all,

    I have this hard drive

    http://img194.imageshack.us/i/maxtor1.jpg/

    http://img388.imageshack.us/i/maxtor2.jpg/

    http://img151.imageshack.us/i/maxtor3.jpg/

Which give me LBA 0 (very similar to the problem with 7200.11 LBA 0).

I've set up the nokia cable for seagate and already mannaged to fix hard drive with 7200.11 LBA 0 problem.

How can I fix that hard drive?

I attached a picture which shows the pins of the hard drive.

Where should I connect the RX and TX and GND of the CA-42 cable in order to fix the hard drive?

    Many Thanks!!

  4. Nah... I don't think your computer is at fault.

Remember not all CA-42 cables are the same (I guess 90% is actually a Nokia imitation).

    As a consequence:

    • The colors of the cables may differ for the TX-, RX- and GND-lines
    • Certain CA-42 cables only work at 9600 Baud

But whatever you do... first make sure you've got the COM-port working before proceding!

    Greetz,

    Peter.

    Hi Peter,

I cracked the USB case, and same as can seen in the youtube video is my cable (exactly the same colors and the titles which say TX, RX, GND)

How do I know if the com port is working?

  5. Why start a new thread, when we already have one with 136 pages?

    • Prepare CA-42 cable
      • Remove phone-end of the cable
      • Locate the TX-, RX- and GND-leads

      [*]Install CA-42 drivers

[*]Plug in CA-42 cable, making sure it's seen by the system

[*]Short the TX- and RX-leads (this will create the loopback)

      [*]Start HyperTerminal

[*]Select the COM-port assigned to your CA-42 cable

      [*]Set connection-properties to:

      • Bits per second: 38400
      • Data bits: 8
      • Parity: None
      • Stop bits: 1
      • Flow control: None

      [*]Open connection

[*]Now type characters on your keyboard

[*]Watch the terminal display: it should "Echo" the exact characters

      you've typed on the keyboard

      • If so: success! :thumbup
      • If not: you've done something wrong, begin at top and check everything

    Greetz,

    Peter.

Thank you Peter for the quick and usefull answer! :)

I already did as you wrote here all the steps, again and again and the terminal does not respond for any thing!

I start to belive that there is something wrong with my computer :(

    Any suggestions?

  6. R-studio allow you to select the area where you want it to scan for lost files. It also allow the creation of disk images to recover from afterwards (very usefull when you have a faulty hard drive). I am not sure about creating many drive image area and then merging them and recover the datas from the merged image.

    R-Studio great software!!

    Solved my problem!

    Thanks!

Don't even think of recovering data from a defective hard disk. :w00t:

IMAGE it, (if needed in several sessions) then recover data from the image.

    This tool is handy:

  7. Hi all,

I have 2.5 inch hard drive which I connect with IDE to SATA adaptor to the usb.

Immediately after the connecting, the computer give a blue screen 0X0000000A and restart it self.

The hard drive is out of it's case.

How can I prevent the restarting and recover the data from that drive?

I tried different computers and it restarts them all.

    Any suggestion?

    Many Thanks!

  8. Hi all,

After fixing the burnt parts from this hard drive

    http://www.msfn.org/board/replacement-pictures-t142900.html

I succeeded with GetDataBack for NTFS to recover 60% of the data. But after this point the hard drive is getting hot and disconects.

How can I contiue the recovering from sector 591.016.022 (and from the begining) while all the drive is about 947,XXX,XXX sectors?

Is there any software which can recover data from a wanted sector and contiued to the end?

I can't start the recovery from the start (sector 0), since after a while the drive is shut it self off.

    Many Thanks!!

  9. Did the cable come with a CD-ROM?

If so, you might want to read this post, where another user with the same cable

had to manually install the driver, since the normal installer wouldn't go past

the "Trying to find phone"-page

    Greetz,

    Peter.

Unfortunately it come without any disk.

But I have a disk with Nokia PC suite. I tried to explorered inside the disk, but there is only an EXE file.

It's the cable like in the guides (at least it looks like that - blue one).

Where can I find this driver?

Maybe the dutch guy have it?

    Best Regards,

  10. Hi All,

I have WD hard drive 500GB which most of the time does not recognize by the bios.

By connecting the hard drive with SATA to USB adaptor I succeeded to have access through GetMyDataBack for NTFS.

Now the software is scanning the disk but I'm afraid that the hard drive will shut it self down or will be permanentlly damaged before the program finish the scanning.

Should I let the software to scan the entire disk (8-10 hours) or to stop in the middle and move on to the recovery step (step 3) which does not recommended by the software?

Does this scanning good for anything?

    Many Thanks!

  11. Since my crystal ball is again in the shop for tuning :(, I have to use I-CHING, that tell me:

    The Judgement

Influence. Success. Perseverance furthers. To take a maiden to wife brings good fortune.

The weak element is above, the strong below; hence their powers attract each other, in your case the weak element is the PCB and the strong one is the HD, the general meaning is that you are doomed to success, but the road to reach it will not be easy.

  12. Hi jaclaz,

Many thanks for the informative answer!

So to be sure, even though there are few differences with the numbers of this hard drive, for a pcb swap, this item:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Western-Digital-WD5000AAKS-00YGA0-500Gb-SATA-DBRNHT2AAN_W0QQitemZ350332294797QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item51916e968d

should be a good mutch for my hard drive?

by the way, do you know any other cheaper way to get this pcb?

    Best Regards,
