  5. Hi all, Today I have released the new patch for the latest version ClamWin 0.97.4. Note: Have been reported problems using the ClamWin incremental update setup, for to install a new ClamWin version it's better instead to use the full install (and to copy before the file ClamWin.conf for to save your personalizations). bye, aru
  6. I would like to know if anyone has tried using any Epson printer that is being currently sold on Win98SE. For example, the S22 does it work? And the P50? In the Epson web site there aren't drivers for these printers but maybe changing some .Inf files of previous models with some previous drivers... aru

  8. For simple image editing I use PhotoFiltre: http://photofiltre.free.fr/frames_en.htm Works very well on Win98SE (probably also on Win95). aru

Note: Have been reported problems using the ClamWin incremental update setup, for to install a new ClamWin version it's better instead to use the full install (and to copy before the file ClamWin.conf for to save your personalizations). bye, aru
  10. PDFCreator 1.2.2 works on Win98SE (without KernelEx). aru
  11. Hi all, I have all necessary environments for to build KernelEx and I am a professional developer. c and c++ aren't my prefered environment but I have worked around 4 years with these languages. I am also a fanatic of Win98SE but actually I don't use KernelEx because I want to mantain my system original and clean until I can, but I know that I will always have more problems with Firefox 2 and Flash 9 or IE6 in the future, so probably I will install KernelEx in a few months. Maybe I can help KernelEx for little things if with some documentations... (I am also engaged in other projects). aru

    Windows 98 DDK

Some months ago I have found on internet this big ddk documentation: http://www.osronline.com/ddkx/w98ddk/install_636s.htm I don't have found a main start page and I have downloaded it with HTTrack are 5290 pages, but here there is all (all kernel functions; all documentations about video, audio, usb, minidriver, etc. etc.). bye, aru
  13. Hi all, Today I have released the new patch for the latest version ClamWin 0.97.1. The ClamWin's team has fixed some problems but some aren't fixed so the patch continue to be important for Win98SE users. aru
  14. Try this. Start the system is DOS Mode and from the command prompt run: scanreg /BACKUP (for to backup your current registry) then scanreg /FIX and then scanreg /OPT Then restart your pc. In the case of problems you can to restore the backup by teh command prompt using "scanreg /RESTORE". For to delete old registry entries you can also try to use "regclean", but take care that sometimes this utility has some problems with some installations made with the Windows Installer (install with .msi extensions). bye, aru
  15. Hi all, I have found some problems related at the scan of some temporary files. I have updated the links with a new version that solves the problem. I recommend everyone to update the patch. Aru
  16. ClamWin has a bug on Win98SE, some types of files after the scan remain locked (for example some temporary files extracted from compressed archive). I have analyzed the ClamWin's source code and I have found where is the problem. The fix works well and is stable. For to try this you can to scan with ClamWin the ClamWin update exe setup (only the update not the full install) that it's realized with nullsoft. The file will locked (no possibility of to deleted it, to move it, to rename it) until the system will be rebooted. Here the files (the changes on the source code and the binary files): http://www.andrearusso.eu/clamwin/Patch_ClamWin0_97_8_Win98SE.zip (for ClamWin version 0.97.8 the binary version about 500k) http://www.andrearusso.eu/clamwin/ModifiedSources.zip (the sources files changed and a document that explain the fix) Open the zip file and renamed the file libclamav.dll located into the folder (clamwin\bin), for example with an extension .original and then save the new file into the same folder. Of course, just as the original ClamWin, these modified files are released under the GPL, as required. Note: Have been reported problems using the ClamWin incremental update setup, for to install a new ClamWin version it's better instead to use the full install (and to copy before the file ClamWin.conf for to save your personalizations). 17. I have not yet installed KernelEx, for the moment I prefer to resist. I will install KernelEx only only when I cannot make otherwise. So my version of SumatraPDF works without KernelEx. aru
  18. Hi all, Recently a lot of malware utilizes some security issues of Acrobat Reader. Latest version of Acrobar Reader that works on Win98SE it's the 6.0, but has these security bugs. I have tried also Foxit that sometimes crash on my pc. I have found SumatraPDF, a GPL open source project: the only version that starts on Windows 98 it's the 0.8.1 but with a lot of problems (no menu, etc.), so I have downloaded the sources of this old version and I have changed the code for to works better also on Win98SE. The .exe and the sources modified are available from here: http://www.andrearusso.eu/sumatra/SumatraPDF.zip (1,2 Mb) I hope it's useful to someone. aru
  19. Are you still interested in doing this when you have some spare time. Me personally, I've search hihg n low for a tutorial on SSM and no luck. You can find the original SSM htm help file on the way back machine: http://web.archive.org/web/20080611132504/http://dl1.syssafety.com/download/ssmhelp-2.0-eng.zip?file=613 Latest version of SSM for Win98SE is the SSM-2.0.8.585-free.exe (release on 2008-05-01), that is not available from the syssafety.com image into the way back machine, but if you search a little with google you can find it on the web. bye, aru
  20. Yes, this version works. I have installed uTorrent, 1.8.5.17091 on my Win98SE WITHOUT KernexEx and works well. bye, aru
  21. The Avast version 4.8 is not fully mantained: not more updates/fixes at the program (at the engine for example); the virus signatures will be updated until the end of this year. aru
  22. Well done! I have downloaded latest Flash version for Win98SE 9.0.277.0, and I have opened with an hex editor all files into the folder C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MACROMED\FLASH and I have replaced the 9.0.277.0 string with 10.0.45.2. Then I have searched into all the registry all entries with 9.0.277.0 and I have replaced them with the other string. Now Google Street View works perfectly on my pc that don't has KernelEx installed. For hex editor I use HxD ( http://mh-nexus.de/en/programs.php ), with this editor it's very easy to replace these strings. Thank you, aru
  23. Yes. The definitions for the old version Avast 4.8 will be updated until the end of the year. bye, aru
  24. I have contacts with GuitarBob that works with the ClamWin team. The ClamWin team is working on an official real-time scanner but that will not work on Win98SE/Me. Regarding the integration of Clam Sentinel into the ClamWin package seems that since this is not an official project do not want to do. No contacts with the Clam A/V team. bye, aru
  25. On Win98SE/ME the vxd detects changes in real-time and adds these on a list, then ClamSentinel polling every 0,5 seconds for to extract the list and to start the scanning. The scanning starts immediatly for the first 10 files and when this scan is terminated continues to consume the list of 10 files at once. If a virus is found, for default, is moved to quarantine. But attention Clam Sentinel only detects filesystem changes and then scan these files with ClamWin, but is unable to block the execution of malware or virus. bye, aru
