  1. Hi everybody.. I have some problem.. Any suggestions / solutions?

    Ask yourself this question:

    • Is it a Seagate 7200.11 drive?

    If the answer to above question is NO, you're in the wrong thread.
    When the answer is YES, carry on to the next challenge:
    • Is it NOT detected in the BIOS
      OR
    • If it IS detected: Does it show up as a 0GB drive?

    If any of the above is TRUE, carry on in this thread if FALSE, you're in the wrong thread.

    Maybe.. could to change the PCB be a good idea?

    One short, but serious, answer: NO

    Greetz,

    Peter.

  2. You don't use the receving (sleeping) computer's IP address, you'll have to send

    its MAC-address (16 times) inside that magic packet over using a (UDP) datagram

    as a network broadcast (IP address 255.255.255.255).

    In pseudo (Delphi) Pascal-code:

    Type
    TMACAddress = Array[0..5] Of Byte;

    TWakeRecord = Packed Record
    Header : Array[0..15] Of Byte; // These are all $FF's
    MAC : Array[0..15] Of TMACAddress;
    End;

    Procedure WakeComputer(Const AMAC : TMACAddress);
    Var
    I : Integer;
    WR : TWakeRecord;
    Begin
    FillChar(WR.Header, SizeOf(WR.Header), $FF);
    For I := 0 To 15 Do
    WR.MAC := AMAC;

    SendPacket('udp', '255.255.255.255', SomePort, WR);
    End;

    Greetz,

    Peter.

  3. Anyway to verify if I have the correct pinout? Point 10 is not very clear on this point.

    And the reason for that is clearly stated at #10:

    [...] but due to the fact that there are so many different versions of these cables, [...]

    Because there are so many fakes around (without any destinctive markings) it's

    impossible to compose a list of "Wires" for Nokia clone-cable "X" :no:

    But... if you think something is not clear (in the read-me or in this thread),

    please do say so and we'll take care it will get clearified :yes:

    Greetz,

    Peter.

  4. but keep repeating 'C' in the response.

    Huh? :unsure:

    Do you get this response with the PCB off the drive (not touching the motor

    and/or heads terminals) or on?

    Can you please state exactly what the label on the drive says?

    (You can leave out the serialnumber if you wish)

    Copy the HyperTerminal window to the clipboard ("Edit"->"Select all"->CTRL+C)

    and paste it into your reply (CTRL+V) between -CODE-tags.

    Greetz,

    Peter.

  5. I sure hope not. I did find some posts on the Seagate forums with people having success sending it in.

    Well, maybe I have to rephrase it:

    • Yes, I did send it in and got a new ("Refurbished") drive back absolutely free. :yes:
      No, they wouldn't do the data recovery for free and I don't think they would do
      it anywhere else on the planet. :unsure:

    Interesting... I had assumed it loaded the diag commands off the platter because if I do a Z/U cycle with the contacts still disconnected, and it fails to spin up because of that, then attempting to run the N1 command gives me "Unable to load Diag Overlay".

    Hmmm, could be... I've never investigated on that any further and reading your next bit:

    Seeing the SX15 here brings back recollections

    ...*could* explain why these commands are not recognized :}

    Greetz,

    Peter.

  6. I foresee a fight with Seagate if I end up having to send the drive in to them for their free recovery.

    AFAIK this is just a myth: at first I sent in the drive for a "Free recovery"

    and received a quote for €900 ex VAT. :unsure:

    So in the end I did it myself for under €10 with the help of this thread. :thumbup

    Anyway: weird problem.

    The only thing I can think about is that you have a different (revision) PCB

    on that drive.

    When powering the PCB only (with the platters not connected) you'll enter its

    special debug/diagnostics mode (the drive's firmware is on the platters, so

    this isn't being loaded at all) and you only have access to the drive using

    low level commands over the (TTL-RS232) diagnostics port.

    After "Upgrading" the drive's firmware, (to my knowledge) the bootcode on

    the PCB isn't changed.

    You should be able to find out your drive's firmware revision by pressing

    the CONTROL and A keys simultaneously.

    When issuing CTRL+L you should get the drive's sign-on message.

    I don't have a ST31000340AS myself so I don't know what the replies should be

    (and whether the commands would work or not), but you can have a look at that

    and copy-paste the results here for others to compare.

    Greetz,

    Peter.

  7. The XLR-inputs of the speakers are likely balanced, but the (3.5mm?) output

    of the soundcard is un-balanced, so that's not going to work without a balun. :no:

    I'm not familiar with the models you mention, so I don't know how good these

    speakers are in rejecting outside signals.

    The cables you'll generally find are cheap and badly shielded and the signals

    sent out from your mobile will indeed give you interference.

    If you want to go the analog way: get yourself a good quality (and properly shielded)

    3.5mm jack to RCA-cable (those really expensive ones) and keep them as short

    as possible (and preferably not a multitude of the GSM-band wavelength; although I only have experience

    with beating, low frequency, HF signals). :unsure:

    I prefer to do everything digitally and have attached my Club Agrippa over

    optical S/P-DIF to an external professional DA-convertor and amplifier, but

    I can imagine that would be a bit over the top for you :whistle:

    Last option is to ban all mobile phones within a 10m (30 feet) or so radius :angel

    Greetz,

    Peter.

  8. (I had a few strange error messages, sorted out by tightening the screws on the PCB=-

    Don't forget this thread: How to solve Error 1009 DETSEC 00006008 FIX,

    but also notice Jaclaz' note about this:

    Generally, it is NOT adviced to use "nail thinner" as it could adversely affect the plastic parts of the connectors/PCB, as it usually contains trichloroethane, if using anything like it or acetone:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acetone

    be very careful NOT to use it on plastic parts.

    To clean contacts use isopropil alcohol:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isopropyl_alcohol

    or a dedicated electric contact cleaner.

    Anyway... good job! :thumbup

    Greetz,

    Peter.

  9. Depending on what an ISP can offer, you can have multiple (static) IP's on

    a single (A)DSL connection; normally such a package is called something

    like "Bussiness DSL" or similar.

    However, you can't have multiple DSL ISP's using the same telephone line

    (at least not here in Holland), since (for obvious reaons) they don't want

    to share a line with the competition. :unsure:

  10. Can we use this RX TX method with other Seagate SATA drives as well??

    If you mean "Talk" to other Seagate drives: yes :yes:

    And for (older) PATA drives you'll have to connect the convertor to these

    pins (and try slower rates, like 9600 Baud):

    seagate_pata_diag.png

    If you want to know if the "Tricks" in this thread also applies to other

    types of (Seagate) drives: read Jaclaz' comment above. :unsure:

    Greetz,

    Peter.

  11. There isn't any real need to have to see the problem with another type of browser

    (but I'm sure you could do the same with FireFox), you'll have to find a way to

    fix the problem. :unsure:

    Somewhere in the php-script there must be something that links to this FaceBook

    widget; you simply have to force this piece of code to always use the same xid

    or you could use a workaround with, for instance, frames, where you put the code

    containing the widget is in a certain frame that doesn't change addresses, whether

    you're using only the domain-name or a URL including the document-name. :rolleyes:

    Just to give you a general idea about using frames:

    • Rename index.php to index1.php
    • Create a new page, named index.html, with this code:
      <frameset rows="*,*" border="0">
      <frame name="main" src="index1.php" frameborder="0">
      </frameset>

    • Make sure the server defaults to an index.html-page if an index.php-script
      could not be found OR use this PHP-script instead (saved as index.php):
      <?php
      echo '<frameset rows="*,*" border="0">'.
      '<frame name="main" src="index1.php" frameborder="0">'.
      '</frameset>';
      ?>

    • Test

    Greetz,

    Peter.

  12. I'm not an expert on Widgets, but the FaceBook comment-widget sees both URL's

    as different addresses (while they actually point to the same page).

    When you right click the widget and have a look at it's properties, you will

    see that one has a parameter-list like:

    [...]&xid=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.teetradio.com%252Findex.php[...]

    ...while the other has:

    [...]&xid=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.teetradio.com%252F[...]

    so both effectively have a different XID. :unsure:

    I'm not sure how you can force the widget to use the same parameter-list for

    both "Addresses" (you could use frames to force it, for instance), but like I

    said, I never work with FaceBook (or widgets in general), so I can't be of

    real help here, sorry. :no:

    Also inspect your code, since there are a few errors in it; the first one being

    somewhere at the top:

    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">

    </head>
    [...]
    </head>

    (There are 2 </head>-closing tags...) :whistle:

    Greetz,

    Peter.
