  1. I am installing windows 2000 in an old PC, and everything goes fine, or so i thought if i manually download the ie 6 sp1 installer, or if i install it through windows/microsoft update, it seems to install just fine, but when i go to the "about"window, the IE logo still reads IE 5 (the big picture), but the text says version 6.**** after installing other updates that apear on WU, the about window still has the ie 5 picture, but i has nothing on the version text, and it crashes XD i dont know if my bigger problem happens without further updates, i didnt test using IE before updating it further after installing ie6sp1, but after fuly updating it, i cant copy text from pages, nor can i fill in text boxes (google, yahoo, forum logins, etc) any ideas how to fix this or why is this happening ? EDIT: right mouse button does nothin inside IE either edit2: it does in some parts, and opening the properties gives an error too
  2. SRY, i clicked in the wrong forum... delete pls
  3. the latest live mesenger (from shark or from ms) has a bug on buth my pcs... it randomly freezes for a few secs and then comes back to life while chating. am i the only one with this problem ? 8.0**** works well for me.
  4. If you're using the legacy-type of drivers (non-WDDM) or some sucky installer that forces it on you for no reason (like to load those tray icons and such junk after rebooting) or something, maybe. But when upgrading a WDDM driver the OS itself does not require a reboot. It can reset the GPU while it's running and all. Yes, for now. But as soon as pretty much all the hardware has the right drivers and all, nobody's going to want to go back to the old stuff. Just like the old VxD -> WDM transition. It sucked somewhat at first when nothing was available (the drivers for Creative's junk was a TOTAL joke!) Inconvenient, but still a good thing. dunno, i just install the drivrs that apear on microsoft update it then asks fopr a restart. are you saying that eventually, multi vga suport will be lke beforE ?
  5. They changed the driver model for many reasons... A video crash doesn't take down the system anymore (drivers not running in kernel mode/ring0 anymore) i.e. stabilty, performance reasons, complexity, not using GDI for everything anymore (DirectX based instead - accelerated by video card i.e. CPU load offloaded to the GPU)... Plus adding various features like GPU multitasking/scheduling/memory management, video playback enhancements, etc. Not having to reboot after video driver upgrades. It's likely useful for protected video path too. Video stuff has changed a fair bit in Vista - Aero, DX10, WPF (part of .NET 3) and all. They pretty much had to. Sometimes changes are necessary, and a good thing, even if it's inconvenient or plainly a PITA during the transition period. 1) im pretty sure i still have to restart after changing drivers :/ 2) it still sucks.
  6. links (and/or xpero web) down and i just deleted the previous version and wanted to reisntall windwos with this (i need to reinstal)
  7. thats what i thought. so, either make a miracle and make vista accept XP drivers for our cards (god knows what performance we will get), or use vista drivers and forget about using diferent video cards form diferent vendors/drivers. i really dont know WHY MS decided to make vista work like this...
  8. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=po...w_post&f=67 on the betas and pre RTM releases this wasnt like this, but now, a "feature" of vista is to accept more than 1 VGA ONLY if they use the same driver... am i the only one that thinks that this is stupid ? i mean, even nvidia has a diferent driver for series 6,7,8 then the one for the older ones :/ Even worse for me, its imposible to use my setup in vista (gf7600gt for main display, and a matrox pci card for my 2 pcone lcd screens on my case), since the matox card is disabled by vista (since its not using the same driver as the primary card, it considers it to nos be compatible with VGA something). the article form the link says something about using XPDM drivers instead of WDDM ones, dunno where to get that or how to use them, but it sounds like it wont have the same performance/features as the correct drivers :/
  9. I have a system with an nvidia card (pcie 7600gt) for my main display, and a pci matrox millenium g200 dual to power 2 psone lcds on my case. in windwos xp they work fine with default windwos xp drivers for the card, or the ones form matrox (but i use the XP ones, because with those, i can chose 640x480 30hz interlaced mode needed for my psone LCDs, and with the matrox drivers, that option is not displayed, and i would need powerstrip). now, on vista, there are NO default drivers, so i have no other choice but to download matrox drivers + utility form windows update. that works more or less fine (no 30hz option, so powerstrip wold be the only way to go), but as soon as i install ANY nvidia drivers (microsoft ones, microsoft updated ones, older betas from nvidia or the latest 100.65 from nvidia), and reboot, my matrox card stops working, the matrox utility wont load, and in the device manager i get a msg saying that matrox cards arent working cause there was a problem (driver not compatible with vga mode) and had to be stoped/disabled. help ?
  10. ok, thx XD i have a pasword set (my pasword) but i used autologin (but now i want my family to know that even if they get my pc runing, they cant use it, i have a custom made case, and instead of a buton, i have a key for power up, and my brother messed with it causing me trouble last night )
  11. sry to bother with this stupid question (nlite 1.2.1 final working great by the way) how do i disable the autologin function i activated with nlite ? i got tired of my brother using my computer, so i want to input pasword to login once again (i have a pasword set, but i have autologin too )
  12. biuuu 33 views and noone knosw more than me any soft to force windows to accept a certain resolution/refresh, that doensnt need to be run eeach time vista starts lke powerstrip ?
  13. To make things as short as posible, this is my situation: i have a pci card (matrox millenium g200 dual monitor) that i use in windows XP to power 2 psone lcds that are plaed in my custom made case. I added an eeprom to them, and now i dont need to run powerstrip to have them recogniced and properly configured, but they only work that way with my matrox card, an ati radeon 7000 and an nvidia gf5500fx (thats more or less broken) refuce to see (the ati card) or accept the config on the eeprom (the nvidia card). The thing is, thatin WINDOWS XP, with the drivers that come with it, i can chose the (suposedly) not suported resolution of " 640x480@30Hz interlaced" thats stored on the eeprom. If i install matrox drivers, i CANT, its not there Now, on vista, there are no default drivers. The ones downloaded from WU are from matrox, they even bring matrox CP (or whatever its called), and i cant selectthe correct resolution once more. I took XPs default drivers for my VGA, but vista refuces to load them and it tells me my device cannot start because it couldnt load its drivers. The same thing happens if i chose to instal the " default vga adapter" drivers. so, any idea how to mod drivers to accept this resolution,o r how to make vista start my matrox card with XP drivers, or vista default vga adapter drivers ? if not, ill be sad
  14. can we integrate ie7 final with this ? XD
  15. http://download.windowsvista.com/dl/previe...cfre_en_dvd.iso that came from the link on the first page, im actually downloading, lets see what it is
  16. 7.5.11 perma crashes on me, when i add certain mp3s, or when i try to burn an audio cd bad install ?
  17. read my question again or ask for a better explanation of my problem if you dont understand, thx. Maybe you should read your question again... whats normally INSIDE "my documents" (not documents) folder in windows this days ? besides the random stuff that one may put in there, there are some default folders "my music" and "my pictures". in vista i have to manually tell windows that my docs, my music AND my pictures are in a diferent place, in XP i only needed to do that for my docs and it relocated everytihng that was inside of it.
  18. read my question again or ask for a better explanation of my problem if you dont understand, thx. i tryed litestep on XP to see what it was, i was more or less scared by it changing my theme shell and who knows what more it did (i couldnt click on my desktop XD) i definitly dont want vista to be changed that way (litestep seem to be really diferent from samurize )
  19. That i have done already. you go to sound settings and then the recording tab. right click the microphone and hit [properties. in the window that opens one of the tasbs will have vol control one of the others will let you set the +20db (or whatever ) Boost. But I havent figured out how to set it so that it shuts the heck up and doesn't relay what its picking up 24/7 through the speakers. Problem is thats usually controlled by the Speaker controls. and in Vista it seems while the mic has a very customizable interface, the speaker controls are governed by some Wizard and you cant select the finer settings anywhere :/ Its one of those things if not changed, i could totally see a 3rd party program comming out that gave you access manually to all the settings. mm, if you are right, then TeamSpeack is not vista compatible, cause activating mic boost and maxing volume (or lvl or whatever its called) to the mx, had no efect, my teammates still claimed my volume was to low.
  20. just like me (plus i need to set mic boost to ON, and turn mic volume up)
  21. 3dmark06 gives me a better score in vista XD
  22. i have the same problem with nvidia integrated sound.
  23. i was getting 5.1 or 5.2 or 5.3 on preRC1 (dont remember), now i hve 5.0 on rc1 cpu score 5.0 the rest a little more (4200+@2500 mhz )
  24. Any softthat works on vista and does something similar to samurize ? i dont even know something similar to samurize for XP, so my hopes ar down i need samurizeLIKE software, cause i have a custom made case, with 2 psone lcds pluged to an extra VGA, and i dont want them to be doing nothing i still have xp on a secondary parttion , and thats what im using now, but vista is SO nice besides that, i wanted to ask how or where was the control for mic volume, and for muting (and maybe mic boost too). i found mic boost under recording, but my mic is active all the time, and people on TS say my volume is to low (i knew how to change that on xp, either on windows sound controls, or nvidias nvmixer, but vista has really diferent options, and no nvmixer ) 1 more i just thought of: in xp, after installing windows, i had to tell it that "my documents"folder (with my music, my videos, my pictures, and many more things inside it) was in another place. i did it by rightclicking on my documents on the start menu, properties, and MOVE. on vista, i could do that separately, for my music and my pictures, but the same properties option was not present on my docs (or some other folder i might have misnamed here). is there a way of telling vista that my documents folder is in another placE ?
