  1. Hi Jaclaz! It's me again. Sorry to post a new thread. I thought that one was closed already. But I came back with more precisely info, No more seagates HDD. I was seaching out my stuffs and found that HDD and thought to give it one more chance. I did all the procedures you said and none worked out. Just one moment I went through the end but it end up with an unsuccess format. Then it started to show that error. What that could mean? Bad pcb, atenuator, head or corrupted file? Please give me a good sign, will you? Please see Vicoria's picture. It says 0MB and 0LBA and on PIO mode it says bsy. What commands can we use to check it deeper? What about we both do this opearation remotely? We can use teamviwer or Skype with a webcam . Tks.
  2. Hi! I have this HDD with firmware MX15. The BIOS says that the size is 0MB and LBA Supported. So, I tried the 0MB guide first with no luck. So what's hapening with this drive that can't be restored? Tks.
  3. You see , by applying torture I managed to have you report what happened before , THAT error is often caused by a timing problem, see: Just for the record, in some cases changing level from which the Z command is issued solves the matter: Hopefully by re-checking and cleaning contacts you will be able to overcome this issue . jaclaz Hi Jaclaz! I'm back. I had to stop it for a while and cool my head. I'm back but unfortunately I could not get my drive back again. I even performed a new clean up again on contacts. I really don't know what's causing those errors. Pls see the new run a I did. This was done w/o removing the pcb board off the drive and w/o putting any cardboad on contacts. Waited the motor stops after turning it on F3 T>m0,2,2,,,,,22 LED:000000CC FAddr:0025BF67 LED:000000CC FAddr:0025BF67 Got the "LED" error Started again and waited the motor stops. There's no strange sound, click or whatever. Does anybody know from Seagate what these could be? By the way, the wires that connect to the drive and adapter must be short or it does not matter at all? Tks/Ivan
  4. No. Meaning that you may have read everything, but COMPLETELY FAILED to follow the instructions/guides. That disk is suffering from LBA0 ( and NOT BSY) and there is (was) NO NEED whatsoever to detach the PCB from the disk drive (nor use the cardboard on EITHER of the head or motor contacts). As said in the post just over yours, all you can try to do is: verify the contacts (check if they were "flattened" by using a "too thick" cardboard) clean them (as in the first post of this thread) make sure you have re-tightened correctly the screws Basically, when the disk is powered it has an "automatic" spin up. This does not necessarily mean that all contacts are OK, it only means that the + and - to the motor (power line) are OK, the contacts providing feedback to the controller may be not touching or oxidized and thus the error. Of course it is possible that *something else* is bad in the PCB , but finding and fixing this is outside the DIY field. jaclaz Jaclaz I did follow the instructions. When not removing the PCB board off the HDD and trying to run the process at F3 T> m0,2,2,,,,22, I get the LED:000000CE FAddr:00280569 error. That's why I had tried the other option, but no success at the spin up process. I will re-check the contacts and clean them again. I'll let you know. Tks. I re-checked the connectors, they are ok. I also cleaned them up just in case. I run the process as follows: F3 T>m0,2,2,0,0,0,0,22 Error 1008 DETSEC 0000500E Process Defect List Error R/W Sense 00000002, R/W Error 841C0087, List Offset 00000000, File Error 00000001. What this could be?
  5. Hi! Hope someone can reply to my questions. I have read everything and eve the "Read me First" section. I have done every step carefully. The drive is spining when I turn it on and stops spining in a few seconds. I have tried both metods of cardboard, on the motor and on the head contacs one at a time and even simultaneously and always got the f***** Error 1009 DETSEC 00006008 Spin Error Elapsed Time 7 mins 27 secs R/W Status 2 R/W Error 84150180. My HDD is the Maxtor DiamondMax 22 STM3500320AS Firmware MX15. The system reports it as 0MB as following pictures. I really dont know what else could I do. Does anyone know what to do? Tks/Ivan
  6. NO!!! DO NOT, FOR ANY REASON, SWAP BOARDS ON MODERN HARD DISK DRIVES. (unless you really, really know what you are doing ) I am of course not familiar with availability of electronic equipment in Jordan, but I doubt you cannot find by the dozen some NOKIA cables or some other USB<->Cellular Phone data cable that "talks" TTL, and an experienced guy to test them. I pointed you to an alternative very simple DYI circuitry. Even if you cannot find a MAX232 or similar IC, I am pretty sure you can find someone with a solder gun, some soldering paste and flux and some thrown away electronics: http://www.uchobby.com/index.php/2007/06/1...ptor-explained/ jaclaz The problem with Seagate HDs does not rezide on its pc board and firmware only. The HD has a reserved space allocated for especial check and control when it is powered on. If you isolate the contacts on pc board from HD contac spin motor with a piece of paper, your BIOS will detect it but nothing goes further than that. After you pull off the piece of paper, then it turns back to unopperated situation: Drive is not detected. All you have to do is either follow all the instruction given on this forum step by step or send the HD to seagate for repairing. Swapping your pc board with a new one, will not help you at all. If you want the RS232 to TTL adapter, you can find it at the following address: http://www.sigma-shop.com/product/5/max232...ic-project.html. I have the same problem and I've already bought one and it is on its way. Wish you lucky.
