  1. it still warns me about the nvappfilter.dll being there, but I seriously never found any info about how to disable the firewall on my m8n32 mobo, nforce 4 screenshots are everywhere but none for nforce5... and it's really not the same control pannel but with that fix, at least Utorrent stops crashing
  2. I'm currently downloading it from a torrent... wise one at sierra who tought "hey let's distribute it by direct download to each and every user" But I'm having a stupid problem getting the cdkey, I click on the link, then the SAME PAGE loads (url in adress bar is the register one, but content is from the homepage)... tried in IE and Opera and it's still the same, I click, and only the publicity changes. Got on my old pc and it worked fine, clicked and the new page where you enter your infos loads fine. but how could I fix this on my new comp for the future? I guess this should be asked in software section or even on google if I knew how to rephrase my problem into a suitable english question.
  3. I was having trouble with utorrent and it was telling me to disable nvidia firewall, which I could not find how since I don't have that option in my nforce5 control pannel. BUT, I found out that it was crashing because of nod32's IMON... maybe related? YES SOLUTION for anyone experiencing this problem: add utorrent to NOD32's IMON exclude list. And it works fine! I had to post it here since I went through so many forums to find that answer, thanks to the user (i didnt get the name) on that forum (i think it was nforcers or something) who posted that solution!
  4. well, I stopped having that bsod as soon as I fixed it's size to 1000-1500, so I get 2Gb physical and 1-1,5Gb of virtual memory. And since I got so much ram I guess it's not dangerous to try the 2 registry tweaks posted above...
  5. Hi, I just bought a new computer, installed windows and I sometimes (too often) get bsod saying 0x00000077 and the error code is related to defective scsi cabling (i don't have scsi devices, only ide and sata) or two devices are attempting to use the same IRQ. sorry if it's in french but here is the printscreen. It's strange that IRQ go over 15 since I never knew it could do it, but stranger is that windows jumps some IRQ numbers and then stacks sata controlers and network controlers all on IRQ 20-23. I would need help or advice PLEASE i looked in bios, can'T assign irq over 15. and xp usually got that grayed out box where you can't uncheck the option to let us assign irqs manually.
  6. great, so if I got that right, I should let windows run the pagefile even if when it was the case there was 0x000000F4 bsod, and tweak XP so that the pagefile and kernel are run from my 2gb of ram. if noone replies with counter indications I think I'm gonna try that out.
  7. The thing is , in my case, I get bsod 0x000000F4 and part of the fix is to try edit page file size. I read alot of contradictory informations here and other places. some say to have between 200 to 400MB of pagefile size in XP, MAXIMUM... I find this to be too small. Default was about 2046 min and 3000something max... this is how it was before bsods. I read the max memory windows can handle is 4GB max (physical + virtual) if that's true I can only allocate a maximum of 2gb since I got 2gb of ram. That would mean the thumb rule would be obsolete for systems with so much ram. So, I'd like to hear some of your advices, for the moment I've put it on 1000-1500mb since it's still large but under the total of 4gb (2+1.5).
  8. seriously, I can't get to disable the nvidia firewall and I don't see anything in network access manager that looks like the screenshots from the web. and I get 3 options, none related to firewall
  9. ****, you guys want it enabled, and I want i disabled cause it doesn't work with uTorrent... how can I disable it? it seems the nvidia control pannel for network access manager is not the one I see on screenshots (maybe from the nforce4) and there is no mention anywhere in the nvidia help files about disableing this firewall. anyone can help?
  10. hahaha had to bump just so ppl can see that reply this add is SOOOOO annoying
  11. works great in french! thanks alot
  12. that's why I wasn't finding any info about that... lol I guess sometimes you just can't go faster
  13. Being a student and having a laptop and a desktop, I wonder if I can install and keep up to date both computers with a single user licence from nod32. If yes they got a new client! Else I'll stay with SAV for another year.
  14. I tried to look but I can't find it either, if anyone could post it thanks
  15. I don't know if this solution is good for me too, I just bought a new computer with 2 gigabit ethernet adapters integrated in the mobo, and thought that I could plug both of them to my router to get twice the speed.
  16. I've got the SAME error yesterday while trying to install on my new M2N32-SLI All cds where made from the same Gold source, so the source is not in question. The first cd was fullu hotfixed, updated, drivers integrated etc. got the error The 2nd cd was full hotfixed, nothing else added. got the error Then I stumbled upon here, tried a last cd with only SP2 integrated, no hotfixes or anything except the sata driver integrated: works fine. So I guess there is something wrong with either ryan's latest pack, or the combination of this pack with nlite 1.01 final.
  17. yeah, but I figured it was still a good boost from my old cards, will be ok for me and it will leave me an upgrade path to go dual SLI when the 7900GT get cheapers in a year or two
  18. I'm gonna check, maybe because of vista they will give student rebates this fall to buy xp64
  19. well I could manage to get XP64 for free too I'm just wondering if the benefits I would get from using it are worth all the efforts and time spend to get it to work with all my hardsoftwares and stuff, while I already got my nlited XP 32 bit cd with all the goodies ready. As for vista, I'm not gonna rush on it as soon as it's out, but if I see there is not much trouble for other ppl who buys it, I'm not gonna wait too long.
  20. could you clarify that part of the sentence? "8xaa and 8x af. 16xaa" i'm the kind of guy that simply clicks on "choose optimal settings"
  21. in the shooter genre, Fear is honnestly the best one I've played EVER
  22. I'm also gonna have a new PC and since I got over all the hardware questions (thanks to Ripken) my last big question is XP 32 or 64 bit... By reading your posts, XP64 should not cause too much trouble, but since everything works fine with XP32, and the fact that I would need to get a copy of XP64 in french, then nlite it... Don't you guys think that at this time, it's better/simplier for ppl to install XP32 and wait for Vista to come out in a couple of months?
  23. FUN??? you kidding I'm gonna have a BLAST!!! FEAR will now run at top quality STAR WARS Empire at War will stop quitting back to desktop because of dell's old drivers ELDER SCROLL OBLIVEON will now run PREY will now run smoothly and at top quality it's like day vs night... i think I wont sleep on a couple of nights
  24. by looking on the specs, the ASUS TOP would have better clock speed and memory than the XFX one, and considering compatibilty, I can only guess that an ASUS mobo with nvidia chipsets works well with a ASUS gfx nvidia card. The ASUS Top card is only 15$ more that XFX's one. So unless there is no other suggestions, I think that with your appreciated help, I finally settled to go for the 7900GT TOP from Asus. and that would be all for my pc... wow. Thanks for your help and comments everyone, especially ripken, you're really a nice guy who knows quite a lot!
  25. is this only personnal preference or is there facts behind it? I'm trying to get all my system parts to work together perfectly so I figured that by staying aroung the same brand it would help. That's why I looked for nvidia video card instead of ati ones, and that's also why I chose asus's card instead of XFX (a brand I don't know and never heard of). But looking at the price list right now, the XFX 7900GT is also 60$ higher (same price as TOP asus one) than the ASUS 7900GT. Is XFX already overclock or are they only better build, or is asus's production cost lower? I also stumbled across a couple of forums from France and users where complaining with in games bugs appreaing with 7900GT cards, and some overheating problems. but it was dated from may, is there still problems with those cards? Anyway, if it's not overclocked I'm gonna minimise the heat. In fact... I don't care at all about overclocking, i'm not into that
