Did a test today with ultimate 64 win7 got it to around 1.1gb. And all my stuff still works.
Now this is a lastsession.ini that I MUST see.

Where's the Snipping Tool check box? I don't even see it on there any more? Keeping the Tablet PC didn't keep the Snipping Tool for me.
If you know what the name of the executable is, you should be able to "protect" it, provided it resides in system32 and all of it's dependents are still in there.

Alright got the theme part figured out.
I've been starting from the advanced template and only enabled a few minor things, see Lastsession.inf.
ISO size: 1,72 GB (1.852.082.176 Bytes)
Is it possible that the integrated updates causing both the installation and the ISO to take so much space?
Actually, a 1.72GB .iso is as small an x64 .iso as you are ever likely to get without some serious voodoo. The smallest W7 x64 .iso I was ever able to obtain with Vlite was around 2.1GB with integrated updates and drivers with DismTool before hand.
I managed to get a 1.65gb iso with RT7 lite, but the end result was not practical, as a good deal of my apps require 3.5 .NET. The advanced option is probably impractical for *most* users. Winsxs cache removal should probably be a hidden option, as per Vlite, as it's only going to mess with most users. But just my opinion.

Sorry...see below.

Working fine so far having TabletPC not removed.
One thing i couldn't figure out so far: What to do to enable themes?
Themes always show up but they are greyed out. Both the aero themes but also the "Windows 7 Basic" theme.
Post your lastSession.ini
You'll find it in the root directory of the rt7 lite program folder. You can attach it to a post.

I have two suggestions for adapters of the new 1.08 build:
1) If you you have applications that rely on the .NET frameworks, do not remove the winsxs cache. While most of my .NET dependent applications now work under 1.08, there is one that does not. In addition, .NET 4 will not install after cache removal.
2) Do not remove any Tablet PC features. Otherwise you'll throw an exception error, and you will not be able to complete your .iso. This is new to this build. Ben is aware of this issue and will address it in the future.
Good Luck

Any ideas about this one, Ben? I tried different options, but this is the second time I ran into this one.

Seem to be a erroneus format.Never seen. So i'm lucky .
Removing a winsxs cache is a thing that should be made carefully because is a very delicate action. .When i have used Vlite for remove the cache of seven, the procedure works fine but i must removes a pending.xml file manually. Otherwise the setup will breaks. But if i remove the xml file, with vilte on seven, the residual size of the cache folder is about 200mb. But i don't think that is correlate at your "framework" issue.
There was another guy who had similar issues with .NET after using cache removal. He was able to get his .net dependent apps working by creating "sym links." Not sure what he meant...it's beyond me.
I just restarted and will not remove the cache - it's not worth the hassle.

Oops...just had an exception. Haven't had one of these since 1.04

Mmm ..are you sure? Because i had tryed the beta but i do not have seen this problem. But there a problem with windows update that do not istalla some update. Nothing of important but the problem there is. Perhaps it can be a problem in the part of cache not removed .
Quite sure. This was with x64, if that helps. If I built an image with all of the same options WITHOUT cache removal, 3.5 .NET was okay.

Hi Bilar. Why be breaks .NET? Do you had some problem?
Yes...in the 1.08 pre-release, the winsxs cache removal option broke .NET. Ben said he thought he could fix that from happening; I'm just checking to see if he got around to fixing it in this release or not.

Ben can you tell me if winsxs cache removal still breaks .net? Thanks.

when there is beta 1.0.8 on yours webseite
RIGHT NOW. Links are up.

Thanks.. will check it out.
EDIT: couldnt load the session, thanks anyways, i managed to reduce iso to 1.6 gb, will test it now,and should I clean my prev posts?
Good goin'! Nah....don't worry about.

OS is x64, but the iso i am working on is x86
Here's my last one. Mind you, this is x64, and I did it pretty conservatively because I had been having an issue installing .net Framework 4. It came in at 2200mb. but it's chocked full of updates and about 120mb of drivers. X86 should be much less than 2000mb.
I'd advise you to wait for 1.08 if you possibly can; with winsxs cache removed using a 1.08 pre-release, I had an x64 image come in at 1650mb. However, it breaks .net. I think that is supposed to be fixed in the final release. Otherwise, I would not suggest removing the winsxs cache with 1.07.

I am using 1.07, can u please give me a session, just to see if i get get it below 2.3gb, it always stays at that.Wonder what mistake i am doing.
Are you doing x64 or x86?

sorry for sounding like a noob,i tried removing components but my ISO size never changes..so only the installation size will change?
Also, can someone provide a good session file?
Which version of RT7 Lite are you using? The last .iso I made with RT7 Lite 1.07 was smaller than any Vlite image I made of Windows 7.

Ben: Can you unlock the search service from the search "feature?" This way, the search function and search tab in folder options would still be operable, but you could have the option of disabling the search service in order that indexing does not take place. As it is, it is impossible to disable the search service if the search feature is enabled. Thank you!

I was thinking, though: the files that are removed are (primarily at least) files that are normally duplicates present in another folder. So wouldn't it be a great idea to not just remove the duplicates (which obviously breaks stuff), but to substitute them for symbolic links? That'll save the same disk space, but keep the .NET support in tact.
It sounds like you have more of a handle on it than I do, but the issue was present in an pre-beta 1.08 and Ben said that he could fix it. He seems to me a man of his word.

Copying the entire \Windows\assembly folder from a fresh image fixed the problem.
I'd still be interested in knowing whether or not you chose the option to remove the winsxs cache. That option borks .Net; I wouldn't be surprised if it also wrecked \assembly.

Is there a change between 1.06 and 1.07 that could relate to the fact that suddenly makes it impossible to run UPEK Protector Suite 2009 (with the legacy drivers, not the Windows Biometrics drivers)?
It looks like you are missing chunks of .NET, which may be a prerequisite for your application. Tell me, did you tick "winsxs cache" for removal? I've had a similar issue with the latest beta, and Ben indicates this should be resolved in the near future. If you absolutely can't wait for the next release, you can try to untick the winsxs cache removal option and rebuild your .iso with the same options.

great.. cuz of me the thread just died.. terrific..
*"lol"*
Don't sweat it...Ben ia back to the drawing board sorting out some issues. Stay tuned.

Try unplugging your LAN connection and see what happens. I used to have an issue when preparing Windows images with Vlite, where if I didn't unplug my LAN cable, I would never get to the desktop. Once you get to your desktop, you can plug it back in.
