Does that break system protection? I.e., will the system pass an SFC /VERIFYONLY check afterward?
No, it wont pass sfc /verifyonly. Explorer.exe.mui is protected since 8.

Doesn't look like that on Statcounter. You can clearly see stagnation after "suicide" offer ends.

Microsoft: More details on the end of 'Get Windows 10' and what's next
Well, now it's time for obvious question: How much are they gonna pay us to take it?
EDIT: If anyone misses "upgrade" you can do it for free and after deadline.

Does that mean that if a user uses this way of disabling Windows Update that updating for other programs might also get broken? Or is it just updates for Microsoft programs that gets 'broken'? What "other programs" are being referred to?
Just MS programs, e.g. IE. Office, Malicious Removal Tool, .NET. Not sure about Defender definitions.

Just to disambiguate, it is correct that the convenience rollup does NOT include any of the GWX thingies?
jaclaz
Well, i installed it on VM and live system and on both did NOT see GWX or any other Win10 thing. However it re-enables DiagTrack service.

It's quite simple, really: a number of those updates are part of the telemetry system or
the update to win 10 (GWX) system(check my list)... hence they are a convenience for MS, not the users, as expected. That's very clear to me. But i checked for updates after installing convenience rollup.

Thanks for sources.
But something i don't get it. They specified five Windows 10 KB's and four of them (KB2952664 KB3021917 KB3035583 and KB3123862) i received as optional updates.

Too good to be true. Knowing MS behavior lately, smells like a trap.
EDIT (couple of hours later): After clean install W7PRO SP1 and updated with April servicing stack and this. Looks like i was wrong. (for now)

Anyone know what r20swj13mr.microsoft.com is used for?
I don't know exactly what is used for. But i have fair collection of scripts and programs which bock telemetry and every single one of them adds that address in hosts file.
Hope it helps a bit.

M$ response to latest force downgrades to W10
http://hothardware.com/news/microsoft-calls-bs-on-rogue-windows-10-upgrades
And epic comment exchange
Quote- So What? Windows 10 will be the OS. People might as well upgrade, learn it and love it or move to another OS. The plan is to have one OS, not multiple. I don't see why that's hard to understand? If you don't like the plan, move on. Its that simple. Writing these articles will not change or alter Microsoft's plan.
- Windows 7 has several years of extended support and there are many viable reasons why one may need to delay deployment of W10. Hardware conflicts, software conflicts to name just a few. That's why MS gives extended support to help their customers plan for hardware and software upgrades. Why would you give extended support and then turn around and say we change our mind we are going to force this down your throat anyway. Why did I even waste time replying you? The article is justified since MS has crossed the line for those exercising their rights to use extended support. And we still have almost 4 years remaining if you need reminding.
- Now I'm about to waste my time replying to you. The support is extended, which means it will end at some point. Don't be stupid. People will complain no matter what. Either upgrade or move on. A simpleton can get it, why cant you?
- The world will end at some point too, so why don't you do us all a favor and just upgrade to the afterlife right now.
QuoteMy main PC and laptop mysteriously upgraded themselves to Linux Mint this morning. I'm sure the Mint people will deny they did it deliberately but, in the meantime, I'll enjoy my new stress free computing experience, grab a bag of popcorn and sit back and watch the continuing Windows 10 fiasco.
