  1. Yes it looks like the same cable. Yes I ripped apart the cable and found out which color is for what (tx,rx,gnd) with the help of a multimeter. I found a driver for the cable (not the one that comes with it) and installed it. Connected it to the hdd and usb port, launched the hyperterminal on xp and see the command prompt of the hdd terminal. With usb cables you don't need battery power.
  2. What I used was this cable . Maybe you should get help from the ones who used the exact same cable. People make use of different cables but get the same results. Just don't rush, take your time reading all the posts.
  3. I used a nokia ca42 chinese replica. It has 3 wires and what I did was to find the appropriate wires with the help of a multi-meter. After that I connected them to the hdd. Ground wire is important. If you find it you have 2 options left. Just try them until hyperterminal gives you the prompt In fact I don't know much about this issue. Just did what is said on the forum So, someone who knows much better than me may help you.
  4. Don't worry it's not very easy but it's not very hard to do also. And english is not my native At my first try I thought I lost all my data 'cause my drive didn't responded, just stuck. (forget to do an important step it was my fault) Tried it second time with the help of the guys here, (thanks to pichi) we recovered it. I'm still using it for 3 weeks and didn't firmware update. With the latest firmware some having issues with the drives recovered from bsy state. And there are also tutorials in that thread with photos. I used a nokia CA-42 cable. I used the tutorial for ca42 here But read the posts after it, it is not complete I think.
  5. Hi Annihilator. Have you read all the posts? You should! You'll find all the answers here. And it seems your hdd is stuck in BSY (busy) state. And it can be recovered if you obtain the appropriate tools. Here are the answers
  6. well the driver I found was on rapidshare. I'm not at home right now but I'll upload it asap. but I guess you have the right driver now. I used hyperterminal with the default settings. Just select the right com port that is assigned to your usb cable.
  7. I had the same cable with the same colors and orange is for ground you can be sure of that. But I forgot what was blue or red for. You have 2 possibilities in this case Just give it a try. Oh by the way I used a driver named "ark3116_Drive.rar" that I googled. Use this one in case the driver that comes with it does not work.
  8. Hi. My ST3500320AS's firmware is SD15, and recovered from bsy state thanks to this forum. Should I update my firmware? Any issues with the new firmware?
  9. thanks bloodraveb27. problem solved thanks to pichi. Pichi you are my hero Thank you everyone who contributed spreading this precious knowledge. I'm sooooo happy that I have my data back.
  10. sorry. It was urgent but solved thanks to everyone contributing. Topic can be deleted.
  11. Thank you thank you pichi! Someone saw my post No, sata data cable is not connected. Just the power cable. No I didn't have bad sectors before the "not detectable by bios" happened. And this is my first try to recover from bsy. But I didn't do a power off between commands. 'cause the tutorial I followed didn't mention it Now if I remove the power plug will I be able to do all the recovery procedures from the beginning? If I remove the power plug what commands should I execute first? Do I have to disconnect hyperterminal or should it stay connected? After 2 hours and 15 mins nothing happened. And I'm looking forward to your reply here.
  12. Hi.. Sorry for the new topic I already posted on the appropriate thread. But I need urgent help here. I did all the steps on http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...8807&st=680. All went well till the m0,2,2... command. After entering that command nothing happened, it's been 1 hour and 30 minutes and I'm still waiting. And I read something about disconnecting the power cable before the command. But I chose to apply this quoted tutorial cause I already had ca42 cable. And I didn't know that I should do a power off!!! I really can't believe that I chose that tutorial to apply! If only I knew I had to power off!Now what, will I lose all my data? Or should I wait for it to complete, if it completes? Is there any way to retry all the steps from start if I remove the sata power cable in this case? PLEASE I NEED YOUR ADVICES. Thank you.
  13. It's been 55 mins after the last command!! Did I lose it forever? I really can't believe that I chose that tutorial to apply! If only I knew I had to power off! offffffffff Is there any chance if I remove the sata cable and retry all the steps?? Still connected to hyperterminal. Or Is it possible to recover my thousands of photos with a data recovery service in this case? Please I need good news...
  14. Hi.. I did all the steps on page 35th of this post. All went well till the m0,2,2... command. After entering that command nothing happened, it's been 10 minutes and I'm still waiting.
