Apologies if this has already been posted/discussed here, but having suffered at the hands of Seagate and their attempt to move into the construction industry using the 'cuda 7200.11 drives as bricks, I was pleased to read that there was finally news on the Seagate forum about the firmware update. http://forums.seagate.com/stx/board/messag...amp;thread.id=1 When I read this, I went from utter shock at what the admin had posted...."Small number of drives affected", "Low risk", "Commitment to customer satisfaction" to howling laughter as I read the two "All user Tags" words at the bottom of the post.... ...priceless I don't know if it's for real or a joke...but either way, it made me laugh!

Thanks to poolcarpet for pointing me here :-) Not sure I'm technically savvy enough to try and resurrect my drive but I'm happy to post info that may help. As I posted on the Seagate forum, thankfully I had an image on my old Maxtor drive from when I moved everything across to the 'cuda. Also had backups of data to an external drive. Only lost some recent email history really. My main worry in all this though is sending my drive back to Seagate with just about everything required for someone to steal my identity on it. Their FAQ says it will be wiped according to their "standard repair process" but are they really going to go to the bother of trying to access/wipe a drive that has died in this manner?
