  1. My new RMA drive has been dispatched and it's another 7200.11. I hope a firware fix is released before this one goes down the pan. And the word spreads The Register
  2. After my HDD failed to respond to any commands via the serial port I decided to RMA it; my supplier said that I should get a 7200.12 as they've been told to send all the 7200.11 back to Seagate I also just found this on the Inquirer Click Here
  3. I've just spent the last few hours trying to talk to my drive through a terminal, but although I can see the data going into the drive via an oscilloscope the drive itself is not responding and I cannot see anything being transmitted on the pins. I have tested the terminal/interface with an old IDE drive and a SATA Seagate(7200.9 - which incidentally, the Rx and Tx are the other way around) and they both responded. I am currently unsure if I have the same problem or whether this is a just a PCB failure although I would suggest that people try talking to the HDD and make sure that the drive is reporting BSY.
  4. I just noticed that I had the wrong date when the drive failed, it was the 4 of Jan. The PC was not used over Christmas and was next used up the follwoing days 27, 28 29, 30, 31 of decemeber and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of January. 5. Thaks for posting the link to the pdf Nichev/ViniciusFerrao. I have managed to find some old C code that is used with the RS232. I shall be creating a small program and will do some testing this weekend, hopefully being able to pass some commands to the HDD that are listed in the PDF. If I have any joy I'll let you all know
  6. 7. I think this is a bug with the HDD firmware not the motherboad as mine is a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS4.
  8. I bought mine on the 25th August 2008 and it died 4th January 2009
  9. Send it over to the UK when you've fixed you HDD Seriously though, my drive failed on Sunday and I've just ordered a Western Digital Caviar Black, I contacted my supplier and they said that although people were returning the drives it was not as many as they sold. These drives really are ticking time bombs. Thanks to all the guys who are trying to fix this.
