  1. Am I screwed??? This is what I get in Hyperterminal..... BTW, it's accompanied with the "click of death"! Error 1009 DETSEC 00006008 Spin Error Elapsed Time 25.907 secs R/W Status 2 R/W Error 84150180
  2. Glad to hear them making steps to resolve this.... I just freakin ordered the $500 Salvation Data solution yesterday!!! They've already shipped it out via DHL today. Oh well, if I can't return it or refuse it, as least I'll have my data back quickly.... I wonder how long the normal turn-around will be for Seagate to recover these drives. By the looks of it..... they'll be pretty backlogged to begin with!! <shrugs>
  3. Has anyone noticed the user - Seagate_AlanM ?? Maybe Seagate can join in on the discussion and help us fix this issue... Might help out a bit in the PR arena!! Let's all welcome AlanM to the party!!! For those who don't know who AlanM is - he was one of the Seagate Forum mods who kept deleting posts which prompted us to move the discussion here. OK.... Back on topic!!
  4. Yep.... spoke with Angel @ Salvation Data today. They're shipping mine out today. Wonder how long it'll take to get here from China.
  5. I bought the hardware referred to by fatlip and pichi earlier in the thread from Fry's but don't have a complete solution to unbrick the drive..... I finally was able to talk to SalvationData and will be ordering their solution for $500 tomorrow.... they're located in China, so I don't know how long it'll take to arrive. I'm located in Raleigh, NC and am willing to unbrick drives in order to defray the cost of the SD purchase.... I have been in sales for a large system builder (an Intel Premier Provider) for 10+ years. Will let you know when I get the SalvationData kit...
  6. Like was suggested earlier.... Post the link - http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=128092 - on as many forums as possible. Here's a great place to start - http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/default.aspx
  7. Contacted SalvationData to order the hardware/software to fix this.... No reply yet! I would imagine they're pretty busy.... No pun intended! Crawler: "Seagate 7200.11", "Seagate Sucks", "Hard Drive failure", "HDD failure", "Not in BIOS", "7200.11 failed"
  8. Seagate would be crazy to start blacklisting our drives!!!! We have done absolutely nothing to void our warranty! If they do so, they're just begging for a lawsuit. We have already begun to switch our business over to WD.... Thousands of units per year! Just upgraded my 500GB drive to a WD 1TB Enterprise drive! This is one that hasn't yet failed, it's my 1TB data drive that died!
  9. Would also be good to post to the deal sites..... Fatwallet.com, Slickdeals.net, Bensbargains.net, etc. They get TONS of traffic!! I'm willing to order the hardware/software from SalvationData... As I understand, it costs $500US and comes with directions etc. Will let you know how that goes... 10. Just got a shipment of new Seagate 1TB drives (ST31000333AS) with 3 platters instead of 4. This has firmware revision CC1F and is Manufactured in Thailand. Why did Seagate change the firmware? Will there be an updated firmware release for the old drives? Has anyone put together a simple step by step tutorial on how to fix the BUSY state problem? Has anyone actually fixed their HDD themselves?
  11. Looking forward to a solution on this.... thanks fatlip and others who are working on it!!! I just ordered my parts from Frys and got a DB9 cable from Monoprice here - http://www.monoprice.com/products/product....=1&format=2 For those looking for a good backup program.... I've been using SyncBack for a long time now. It allows you to schedule backups and even emails you if there is an issue - tons of advanced features! I also use it to sync selected data between 2 desktops and a laptop. Here's the free download - http://www.2brightsparks.com/downloads.html#freeware
  12. I'm here too!! Well.... you guys can finally see the frustration and lack of support we've been dealing with forever!! Like their S**T doesn't stink. As I stated in the Seagate forum, we have sold tens of thousands of Seagate drives - for them not to offer any support is deplorable! I have already placed an order for some WD Green, Black and Enterprise drives in the 500GB and 1TB sizes..... What sucks is that we still have stock on the Seagate 500GB and 1TB 7200.11 drives!! I know there will be some customers who will have difficulty switching so we'll eventually be able to sell them.... I'll be replacing my defective 1TB and good (so far!) 500GB drives with WD 1TB enterprise drives and use my crap seagate's as backup. I also PM'd fatlip.... haven't gotten a response yet. He seems like the only person who knows how to fix this. Does anyone know the cost of the HDD recovery hardware and software from SalvationData??
