  1. 1) A) I have another Hard Disk (which I'm working from now). B)I can download a live CD. C)I have Ubuntu on my Flash Disk but I haven't tried it yet. D)I have Hirents Boot 2) I will try to do that now. 3) I will try to do that also now.
  2. I was all good working on my computer when I decided to restart my computer because "rocketdock" (a dock program) didn't open a folder and gave me the "open with" dialog instead. Background:- I've installed a lot of updates recently, including SP1. The windows is customized i.e. some files are edited. I used tune up registry cleaner, which caused a problem in Chrome, so I used a command found on the Internet, it made tons of errors (which was mentioned by the one who suggested the command) and the computer CPU was fully loaded. The command is: FOR /R C:\ %G IN (*.dll) DO "%systemroot%\system32\regsvr32.exe" /s "%G" PS: "Ctrl+Alt+Delete", "Ctrl+Shift+Esc", and "Ctrl+L" don't do anything. PS2: Safe Mode loads into the same screen.
  3. Is there a difference if I get a high resolution screen and make the DPI higher (in Windows 7), and if I get a low resolution screen and use regular DPI? The reason I'm asking is because I need a monitor with big (easy on the eye) content, and almost all good new monitors are Full HD nowadays.
  4. I have tried:- 1)Windows Home Premium x64. It didn't work well. (By the way, on the original hard disk, the same type was (and still is) installed) 2)Windows Ultimate x64. It didn't work well. 3)Ubunutu 11.04. It worked well. 4)Ubunutu 11.04 from flash drive (i.e. liveCD.) It worked well. 5)Windows 8 Developer. It worked well. So, I'm sticking to Windows 8 Developer + Ubunutu 11.04. By the way, the 128 C is just an arbitrary value chosen to indicate that the hard drive doesn't have heat sensor.
  5. I used Autorun to see start-up entries, nothing suspicious. I used gmer to rootkit-scan, 2 entries were found:- I'm 99% sure it's a driver problem, but I don't know what to do.
  6. The applications that halt are various, any application can halt. Kaspersky has a rootkit scanner, I used it, I will use the rest now. Should I install ubunutu on the hard drive, or is it OK if I use it from flash?
  7. 1) The temperature is consistently 128 C-degrees. It doesn't change. Which is suspicious. 2) The laptop doesn't feel that hot, and motherboard temperature is 45 C-degrees. So, I suspect it's really 128 C-degrees or anything near that. 100 C-degrees is water boiling point. - Someone suggested that I scan the HDD for bad sectors. No bad sectors were found.
  8. My Agility 3 is running 128 C degrees, could that even be true? My CPU is running 42 C degrees, and System Temperature is 43 C degrees.
  9. I have HP dv6-6070ee It has the following:- Core i7-2630QM (with HD3000 IGP) 4GB DDR3 RAM ATI HD 6770M It used to have pre-installed Windows 7 Premium 64x + 500GB 7200RPM HDD Now it has Windows 7 Ultimate x64 + Agility 3 60GB The PC used to halt with the older configuration and still halts now. No intensive applications running (at all) just regular usage... What now happens is that some application halt (the one in front) and if I wait some type it closes and the PC continues working... If I keep pressing the computer halts extremely, and I have to shut down and power on again.
  10. Here is the information of my laptop it's dv6-6070ee Notebook Model: Hp Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC Product Number: LL059EA#ABV Chipset: Intel HM65 Here is Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-91225-1&cc=emea_middle_east&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=5062484&sw_lang= I don't know if that could be useful, but all I see is an exe file. I'm trying to install windows 7 home premium x64 PS: I posted a similar topic in another forum, please excuse me for posting in two forums. I don't trust one forum more than the other.
  11. I have five numbers on my keyboard, number from 1 to 5. I'm using IntelliType Pro trying to assign macros to these keys, but I can't. When I select any of these keys the "Assign/Manage Macro..." button gets grey (disabled). Is there another way to do it?
  12. It already has worked before on my laptop (where the problem began.) I then tested on my mom's PC, and I got the same problem "Not Recognized". I will restart now and see the BIOS. Hope it works!
  13. The set is "Microsoft Wireless Comfort 5000" I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 What did I try until now? - Software Reinstallation: I uninstalled the IntelliPoint and IntelliType software. I have downloaded and reinstalled. -Connect to Other Computer: I tried to connect the wireless receiver to another PC. It didn't work. Same thing, it didn't get recognized. Can you help me, please?
  14. Thank you, I've taken a look at perfmon yesterday, it had a lot of meters. Now I'm logging and I will try to find a good analysis tool, or I'll try to do the analysis myself. One big problem to me is that perform, AFAIK, doesn't have any GPU meters, is there anything like perfmon for GPU performance?
  15. I will post a lot of information and questions, so excuse me in advance. My current PC specs:- RAM: 667Mhz 4GB DDR2 CPU: 2.5Ghz "6MB L2 Cache" Core2Duo GPU: Intel X3100 IGP Storage: (500GB, 2GB free) 5400 RPM "8MB cache" OS: Win 7 Ultimate I'm trying to determine which will benefit me most in my next upgrade(s). For example, maybe a LIano CPU would be better for me, or maybe a SB CPU would. Also, I'm trying to pinpoint limitations so that I recognize where adding more hardware won't do any good. For example, a Core i7 Quad Core CPU may be really too extra for me. 1) Is there a program to record my CPU/RAM/Storage/GPU usage with full detail for each? 2) As I can see through Task Manager, RAM usage is between 50% and 90% most of the time. Should I get more RAM? I know that there happens page swapping between the RAM and the HDD, but I'm not sure if this still happens even if the RAM isn't fully consumed, hence the question. When is more RAM useful / After what usage percentage? Is it wise to totally turn off paging if I never exceed, say, 95% RAM usage? 3) I've done a bit of an experiment, I kept on typing (so fast and randomly) in Firefox (in a webpage input box) until Firefox halted and the Firefox window went blur. I monitored the resources during the process:- - CPU always < 70% - RAM always < 70% - HDD always < 2MB/s So, none of these "looks like" a bottleneck. Since the window did halt, one of these should be the bottleneck, and it most probably is the CPU, but why did the CPU never even exceed 70% usage when it's the bottleneck*** ? *** that is, if it really is, but in such a process as typing in a browser webpage, it really seems to be a CPU intensive operation rather than an HDD or RAM one)
  16. I separated the question so that you answer what you find yourself able to answer, without having to read the whole thing. EDIT: Now I have slimmed the whole the questions. Main Question, Is this the right type of enclosure? The on-topic question: I have a 12mm 1TB drive, will it fit in this: External Link To Amazon ? Can you recommend me an a good enclosure with fast eSATA? Question no.2, Will this eSATA/SATA cable work directly? What if I simply bring a cable like this: External Link To Amazon Will it work without any enclosures? Question no.3, The way off question, Will I be able to put my 500GB HDD in place of the optical drive? My laptop is HP dv7tqe (specifically HP DV7-4270us,) it's optical drive is 9.5" AFAIK. Will I be able to get the 500GB HDD work in it's place (assuming it's also 9.5")?
  17. OK, this is expected, I have a second question. I want to put the 1TB drive in place of the optical drive (in the optical drive bay.) I was told that I will need this: http://newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=176 But that it is only 9.5mm height. And the 1TB drive coming in the HP is the 12mm. Maybe I can do some modding? What can I do to use the 1TB in place of the optical drive? Do I even need this caddy? What if I directly connect the 1TB drive and fix the drive my way? The laptop is HP dv7tqe (specifically HP DV7-4270us)
  18. I think getting a better monitor is what you should do. A screen can be very glossy that would really hurt your eyes after long time of use (specially reading.) There are many factors to when it comes to which screen is best for reading, but I'm not a monitor/screen expert.
  19. I have gone through a big mess. Now, I don't even understand what a caddy is. Maybe I can find my own solution without having to buy one. So, my question is, does the hard drive caddy only hold the hard drive? or does it also provide any connectivity? In other words, if I get a hard drive and try to connect it directly without any caddies, will it work? I asked someone about which one to use, and he said this one: http://newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=345 Yes, I see a cable in the picture, but is it needed? Again, will it work if I try to connect the SSD directly?
  20. windows crashed (got blue screen of death.) After that, someone did something to my PC and eventually I couldn't see the OS selection boot screen anymore. Now I have installed another windows 7 on Drive "D", but I need to be able to boot from my previous OS to get my bookmarks and so... the question is, what can I do to boot to my previous OS?
  21. I have about 100GB of files on my 320GB HDD. Can I create 2 partitions (on the external HDD), with my files on one partition, and W7 Installation files on the second? And then boot from 2nd partition to install W7?
  22. It worked for me, I asked to write the partition table (or something named like that), then I rebooted and found the partition with all my files. Thank you very (very) much
  23. "No partition found or selected for recovery" :S :|
  24. It`s most probably as you say; but as you notice that it only showed up using the testdisk_win.exe, but I got a different table for the photorec_win.exe ! So, I can`t choose that option for recovery.
