  1. ;Removes Language Bar [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{540D8A8B-1C3F-4E32-8132-530F6A502090}] @="Language bar" "MenuTextPUI"="@%SystemRoot%\\System32\\msutb.dll,-325" ;Deactivate Language Bar [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\CTF\LangBar] "ShowStatus"=dword:00000003 is what I've been using however, I didn't crosscheck your method of quick launch activation
  2. yeah, it's been covered before that's been a tough one, but now it's whooped
  3. have you talked to your ISP? even tho some ISP tech support is awful, sometimes they can help maybe it's an issue on their end?
  4. OK, OK, I wasn't going to update my unattended install with the latest adobe reader But Ryan made me, well, at least he made it easier Like the SunJava thing too
  5. what's the chance you have zonealarm running with the email protection on? what about any spam filtering plugins for outlook express? who knows, sometimes windows just goes tits up, and you need to re-install
  6. I'd be intrested in seeing a tutorial on how to do this Is there more info on your method around anywere?
  7. I've found getdataback at www.runtimes.org to work well as long as it's not a hardware problem you can download and check the drive for free, even see your files IF it can recover them in order to recover the data, you gotta pay I had to get serial numbers for the NTFS and the FAT programs but I recovered several GB worth of data for myself after accidental partition deletion during setup also, I recoverd about 900MB of photos for a lady who accidentally deleted them thru nero (I can't believe the right pane of nero will allow deletion)
  8. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> all it takes is an old floppy lying around to make installation easier heck, even Dell still puts the connectors in
  9. I'm still a fan of the floppy driven installation that way my winnt.sif files and all the other installation can be kept on floppy ez to edit, plus XP setup automatically looks for the winnt.sif file on the floppy only thing is, you need to run the autologin scripting from commandlines.txt so just modify that to point to the a:\ drive now you can use 1 CD/DVD, and customize the installation via text changes on the floppy including serial number, batch files, reg tweeks, username, computer name, etc. I think you get the point Ok, I'll stop bragging about my 1337ness
  10. well, that does seem to work quite well. I'm formatting my test machine to make sure it works well in a true install environment
  11. I'm also looking for a way to do this I have the following keys by regshot and I'd like to put the following in my regtweaks file: ---------------------------------- Keys added:3 ---------------------------------- HKU\S-1-5-21-1606980848-1078145449-1417001333-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\BitBucket\c HKU\S-1-5-21-1606980848-1078145449-1417001333-1003\Software\Symantec\Norton Utilities\Norton UnErase HKU\S-1-5-21-1606980848-1078145449-1417001333-1003\Software\Symantec\Norton Utilities\Norton UnErase\StateIcons ---------------------------------- Values added:2 ---------------------------------- HKU\S-1-5-21-1606980848-1078145449-1417001333-1003\Software\Symantec\Norton Utilities\Norton UnErase\StateIcons\NPShield: 00 00 00 00 HKU\S-1-5-21-1606980848-1078145449-1417001333-1003\Software\Symantec\Norton Utilities\Norton UnErase\UserInfo: 00 02 F3 03 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 ---------------------------------- Values modified:7 ---------------------------------- HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\: "Norton Protected Recycle Bin" HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\: "Recycle Bin" HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\LocalizedString: "Norton Protected Recycle Bin" HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\LocalizedString: "Recycle Bin" HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\Shell\: "UnEraseWizard" HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\Shell\: "" HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\Shell\UnEraseWizard\Command\: "c:\Program Files\Norton SystemWorks\Norton Utilities\UE32.EXE /A" HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\Shell\UnEraseWizard\Command\: "c:\Program Files\Norton SystemWorks\Norton Utilities\ue32.exe" HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Cryptography\RNG\Seed: DF 98 A8 CD 38 4F 2C B8 A9 E1 D0 AF B3 8E DA 79 FA B7 8E 7A D5 DE AA 2B 48 52 E0 24 31 4C B6 A8 C7 EF 59 5F 5C D2 BE E2 97 75 1A 33 2D AD D0 2E ED D0 B2 CE 9F 3D 15 4A 30 9C FF D6 73 C5 B9 CD 43 C8 55 CD AC 45 06 60 C0 D6 F3 6A C2 21 68 1E HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Cryptography\RNG\Seed: B7 FD FF 3D 6F 7F E1 E9 D6 38 86 BC 10 4E 96 28 5B 1C AF F8 C9 C9 48 C9 7B 66 21 90 88 0B 5A BF 0C 8A A2 BA 1D B0 6A 31 7E B1 EB FE E1 12 F3 66 5A E0 06 47 43 9B 74 14 F9 DE EA C2 F8 7B 88 A8 A4 10 9C C9 22 69 13 64 B0 B2 D9 5A E6 16 CE AB HKLM\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Norton Utilities\Norton Protection\Drive C:\Switches\Enabled: 01 HKLM\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Norton Utilities\Norton Protection\Drive C:\Switches\Enabled: 00 HKLM\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Norton Utilities\Norton Protection\Drive C:\Switches\DirKBSize: 0x00002800 HKLM\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Norton Utilities\Norton Protection\Drive C:\Switches\DirKBSize: 0x0000339D it is supposed to rename the recycle bin after an unattended Norton System Works installation, turn off the recycle bin protection and not sure about the last one
  12. I'd be intrested in more info on this. I've downloaded Orca and have opened the msi, but am not sure what to mess with and what not to. but it sure would be nice not to have some of the stuff NSW 2003 installs basically only anit-virus, speed disk, windoctor and that sort of thing are necessary I hate the way it renames and 'protects' the recycle bin what a waste of resources
  13. I've never seen double \\ in a file path before is that correct?
  14. I so hope you are kidding about the firewall
  15. why do we care what laptop you are running that on and about everything will be running smooth error free with SP3 pipe dreams! but hey, everyone needs a dream maybe eventually MS will get it right meanwhile, I just keep it simple so it's more stable
  16. ah, the loveliness of broadband poor dialup users will have to order and wait

    Format C Drive

w00t! somebody's about to get a clean operating system again
  18. in win9X it would be fdisk /mbr I guess that would work only if it's FAT tho here's for NTFS http://www.ntfs.com/mbr-damaged.htm please note, that I googled this, and haven't actually tried it myself, but it looks proper
  19. Personally, I'm a fan of Belkin routers, but yes, I'd always prefer a hardware router AND a software firewall as a solution seeing as how an unprotected Windows computer WILL be infected within 10 minutes of being connected to the internet, it's just foolish not to be protected. I've gotten Belkin reconditioned routers on eBay for less than $15, including 2 network cards and cables, so price is hardly an excuse
  20. maybe the bios settings on the CPU and RAM timing are wrong if it's been overclocked whether accidentally or on purposes, things can go wrong check the front side bus speed of the CPU, and make sure the RAM clock isn't set at a different timing. I've seen that kill the mobo already IE, if it's an AMD XP series, the RAM time for a 2100XP should be set at 266MHz for a 2600 should be 333MHz only the 3200 should be set to 400 while technically it should be able to clock higher if the ram supports it, for some reason it seems to cause problems such as wiping out the bios or overheating the CPU. I saw one such setup that it melted out the thermal compound between the heatsink and CPU
  21. maybe he's refering to the IE7 that is coming out for XP before Longhorn is released either way, does it really matter?

    hijack help

if you install the teatimer option of spybot, it should prevent this from happening as long as it's installed b4 the hijack the teatimer puts spybot in the system tray, and it can blacklist lots of processes from running as well as maintain the home page. but no, it doesn't seem to be able to prevent the about:blank from entering the system, only from hijacking the home page about:blank is one I hope I never see again
  23. after reading the above discussion, wouldn't it be simpler to borrow a home version cd from a friend that already had SP2 slipstreamed in? it would be the same as using your own CD and slipstreaming, you'd just use your own serial number for installation if that's against the EULA, I dunno, I've never actually read in
  24. thanks, I did find that also last night after searching for almost an hour and it did work BTW
  25. http://www.comet.smamhosting.com/other/zomgtehbg.JPG This friend of mine has a problem when the Common Tasks panel showed up on his desktop. It's kinda annoying as it covers 1/4 of the desktop, and ruins the wallpaper anyone know how to remedy this? I searched the forums and googled it, but maybe I used the wrong search terms. any help is much appreciated
