  1. see tho, he's dreaming big he figures once everyone is addicted to his software, then no virii writers will be succsessful in infecting other people's computers, therefore they'll have to spend their time and energy actually writing useful software instead of virii
  2. you can also us a friend's cd for the media, and use your cd key to install just make sure the version matches
  3. see, the thing is, I'll grab a program off the internet once in a while, or run one of the programs I've accumulated over the years to do an odd job, so I'm installing software on my puter at least twice a month. After a format, it might even be on a daily basis for a couple weeks. so constantly fighting with a program in order to do what I do would be aggravating plus, what would happen if I plugged somebody's hard drive in my computer to do data recovery? would it erase all executable software on their drive? how would I explain that little problem?
  4. I'd agree that it's different. Sounds to me like ImmEng. just examines every file's binary for executable code and if it finds it, it just blocks it from executing. so it's n00b unfriendly but in theory foolproof as far as mucking things up I'd wager it's a pain tho when it comes to a system that most people would actually use for daily use. So that would leave it mostly for network users in office environment where admins don't want dumb dumbs messing up the computers
  5. ^_^

    TC!

that would be crap tho, if you actually bought hundreds of songs and then stopped paying rent for the media player, then the songs would be gone also, that thing about documents created using rented software being made unreadable once the contract wasn't renewed also would be crap. all companies like microsoft would have to do would be to make a program like Office so affordable that all computer manufacturers would pay to put it on their computers would make microsoft so dominant it wouldn't be right. For $50, I'd put it on every system I sell, even if it did only include word, outlook and excel can somebody please slap bill gates upside the head with that idea?
  6. shhh, I'm trying not to start trouble here
  7. Pest Patrol seems to work best for me although the MS AntiSpyware Beta is pretty good. I do use Spybot with the teatimer option, and I think that helps more than anything for prevention for those who use IE, but then again, Spybot is kinda hard for a n00b, where AntiSpyware is n00b friendlier but once you've got a system infected, seems PestPatrol is the cat's meow for removing the most I've seen systems with over 1000 items
  8. if you have another computer that you can slave this drive into, you should be able to delete it that way
  9. Ok then, let's assume this technology takes off. Why not offer a rebranding/reselling option so I can offer the technology in my company name, and include the support in my pricing model? Of course, I would get volume discounts so I could actually make money, and you would get income from my selling/packaging with computer systems, so it would generate consistent cashflow for you guys, and you wouldn't get bogged down with support calls because I would have to handle that. See, now you get to see my bra again, plus get some good ideas for your boss. And as a potential reseller, would I get to preview the software?
  10. you could turn off the windows restore feature, that could help increase some speed. there's a few good tweaks available to turn off unnecessary services available on the web also defrag the hard drive also, as I've seen that provide a much larger performance boost in XP than any other OS
  11. I think part of the reason for some strong statements being made in this thread are reflected in the thread title. Martin says it won't replace AV, I rather agree with that, although I do think it could be a good supplement, possibly even subverting AV to second place if it works as rythmnsmoke says. rythmnsmoke kinda came on here and basically said he's smarter than all of us, so can you blame the reaction? as for using us for training purposes, what legitimate company doesn't provide good training for it's sales team vs. having a junior exec go about trying to create a buzz in the tech world? See, it all reeks of incompetence, thus the accusation of snakeoil salesman I have found 1 place to buy said software, and there's not even a description of the software on that website. It's expensive, so I would hope there is some support, but there's no mention of it at the purchase point. Guess I'll just have to wait for the company to grow up if it actually survives this growing pain
  12. http://www.techweb.com/wire/26800750 is from 2003 and it states: BBX Technologies demo'd its ImmuneEngine security software, which takes a different tack than other anti-virus, anti-worm, anti-malware products. ImmuneEngine locks down servers and PCs by creating an independent operating layer around Windows; detects and deletes unauthorized executables; and if unsuccessful at stopping the attack from starting, tries to put a halt to the executable. Unlike most other products put on the DEMO stage, ImmuneEngine is available now, at prices that range from $175 per desktop/laptop to $20,000 per server. Interesting that I can't seem to purchase it in 2005 for a desktop...... http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1660883,00.asp again, from 2003 where's the current buzz? and where do I purchase?
  13. see, the difference being that DonDamm has been around awhile, and has seen his share of snakeoil salesman and yourself, who has seen the "live" demo is DonDamm has the experience to back up his reserve. I think that's what it boils down to, those of us who've been around computers for way too long have seen alot of stuff come and go. Some products look nice and shiny, but just don't hold up to the wear and tear of time. You think Norton wouldn't be interested in engineering something that works like this ImmuneEngine is claiming? Of course they would. They'd be hailed as heros. However, my dad always said, beware of something that sounds too good to be true. That's exactly what this product sounds like. So please forgive our distrust of an individual that promotes a product that doesn't exist for the general market, and gives us only tidbits of information that sounds somewhat relevant. IF he would up the ante a bit, and trust a reliable member of this board with his software in a similar way that he's asking us to trust him, then he would be showing himself to be of substance. Right now, all he's offering is a bit of hot air. I've got a wife if I'm wanting to hear a bunch of hot air, thank you
  14. so 20 or 30 people who attend your live meeting are credible, but that many of my neighbors saying Fortres is good isn't credible? It's all a matter of opinion, your opinion is that yours is the best. It may well be, I'll allow that, as I have in this thread. The reason I'm skeptical is there is NOT a huge buzz going around IT departments about this softare, maybe a tiny peep here and there. just because 3 major companies have reps that say it's the best doesn't prove a thing. I think, sir, that you are trying to create a buzz. I do hope you are right, but I think what your are doing has been tried before (8 years ago or so) and that failed, so I think my skeptiscism is warranted. And no, I'm not simply here to bust chops, however, all I'm seeing is a smokescreen so far, I hope to see a real deal in the future
  15. this is starting to sound like a Democratic National Convention Just believe me, All I say is true, and I have a plan that will work, just trust me. Is rhythmnsmoke just Al Gore blowing smoke with a rythm? Is this your new gig, Al?
  16. here's how I protect my PC www.msfn.org/board/protection
  17. Good luck buddy, the first one took me 8 hours to figure out, but as far as I'm concerned it was worth it. seems everyone but me is now using nlite to do the dirty work, but I still script mine with batch files
  18. he's honing his skills to take down a big corporation for a shill program that was abandon in 2003
  19. oh, and for your information, I would seize the moment if I could actually seize it. but all you let me me seeize is a demo I saw the demo on Win98 from Bill Gates, but that didn't let me try it, only let me watch him muck it up
  20. yeah, when I don't use a floppy, I put the winnt.sif file in the /i386 folder, and put my software installs in the /install folder. then I have to make changes to the scripting to point to the new locations. if you don't know how to make the new cd, read the guide at http://unattended.msfn.org/global/finish.htm
  21. http://www.fortres.com/products/fortres_101.htm would be more like it
  22. memory errors could be the result of improper timings. I had to slow down the latency to get mine working properly but yeah, scan for adware, it's a b*tch
  23. I don't classify a "live" demo as putting up. it's kinda like a live showing of a salesman demoing a Porsche. Just not the same as gripping the wheel and mashing the gas. so I'm still waiting to see it for myself. and I think it's funny that only now are you telling us that you're using us for training how nice
  24. I truly wish to see such software work, and am more openminded than I appear. It's just that he's saying trust me, it's a wonderful thing. But he's only willing to "demo" it in a tightly controlled envirionment. I'm simply calling his bluff. And BTW, if it isn't for sale, so why bother advertising? Oh, that's right, he only sells to big mega corporations, because they are the only ones who are smart enough to use it...... That's also an absurd arguement, after all, look at all the work we've done to make windows installations easier and faster. Noooooo, we don't think outside the box at all....... so there's no way we'd even consider something better. So he is INSULTING us, why not bust his chops back? He better take it if he's gonna dish it out PUT UP OR SHUT UP rhythmnsmoke
