  1. good day guys... thanks for all the replies.... guess the bottom line is that if i want something faster, might as well get a new cpu... might cost a little more but based on your suggestions, guess that would be a better deal.... for now, am cool with my unit, although an upgrade would definitely be much cooler... again, thanks a lot mi amigos....
  2. Good day again guys. Here's my system: OS: Windows ME/XP dual boot Memory: 2 GiB RAM (2x 1 GiB) Motherboard: P4X333-8235 CPU: Intel P4 2.0GHz Video card: nVidia GeForce FX5500 256 MB (AGP 4x) config.sys and autoexec.bat: no relevant entries system.ini: MaxPhysPage=48000 ; 1150 MiB MaxFileCache=131072 ; 128 MiB vmm32.vxd: plain vanilla (with 4.90.0.3000 vcache.vxd and vmm.vxd inside) My question is this. Would it make a lot of difference if I add another 1gb ram. I usally use my pc to surf, office apps and nero burn. Thanks for the help.
  3. good day to all. all of a sudden my lenovo y310 with windows xp pro would not boot. when i tried it in safe mode, it hangs up at mup.sys. i've already reomoved any usb attachements (mouse, ipod) and tried booting it but it hangs on the blue screen and then reboots again. any suggestions. i'd like to avoid reformatting the thing cause it would mean loosing all my files. thanks again to all. ronald
  4. thanks man... did what you advised, and that window sure disappeared... now out of curiosity, how did it get there in the first place? again, thanks..
  5. good day all. lately whenever wei boot our PCs, two small windows appear with the same message "cannot find script file c:\windows\auto1.vbs" we just click "ok" and the windows disappear. our mcafee anti virus is updated and we've done scans, but the two windows still pop up during boot. help anyone... thanks
  6. good day all... thanks for all your tips.... by some mystery, was able to boot on safe mode..... after countless tries, and so did the logical thing and saved all important files... so a clean reformat is in the horizon... am considering xp though.... again, thanks...
  7. Tried the vista repair... but no luck... still stuck at the microsoft corp with the green dots light moving left to right. unit eventually turned off by itself. You'll only need a Phillips head screwdriver and a SATA cable+power plug. No exotic stuff there. Keep in mind that installing other OS's - even without reformatting the drive - might cause data loss. So try a repair first, like nitropuppy already stated. allright... think i would need to buy an adaptor for the sata cable coz my pc uses the old kind of cable. thanks both for the help..
  8. good day all. my daughter has a lenovo y310 laptop with windows vista home. problem now is that it wont load. i tried booting it up in safe mode to no avail. it gets stuck in the mircosoft corporation screen with that dotted lights moving left to right. anyway, my daughter has important files in there, so a clean reformat is out of the question. was wondering if i can install xp and not reformat the hard drive so as to be able to retrieve the files. or can i install the same vista os without deleting everything. the hard drive is not partitioned and i dont have the gadgets to remove the HD and attached it to another pc or laptop. thanks all.. ronald
  9. ayt..... will visit the links... thanks....
  10. actually went ahead already with removing 1 gig ram then installing everything... then after i placed back the 1 gb, did the necessary tweaks in the system.ini....... everything a-ok... but that program sounds like a good alternative should there be a need to do it again in the future.... details or links please... thanks guys...
  11. good day again. need help in removing desktop themes. tried using delete files but wont work. thanks
  12. yo den.... i was afraid you'd say that.... i was hoping i'd be able to do it without the hassle of dismantling the cpu... well if that's the case, then i'll just have to get down and dirty with it... thanks again
  13. hello once again guys... need help with my dilema... heres my setup which i was able to run using two os (xp/me)... rldelrosario ======== OS: Windows ME Memory: 2 GiB RAM (2x 1 GiB) Motherboard: P4X333-8235 CPU: Intel P4 2.0GHz Video card: nVidia GeForce FX5500 256 MB (AGP 4x) config.sys and autoexec.bat: no relevant entries system.ini: MaxPhysPage=48000 ; 1150 MiB MaxFileCache=131072 ; 128 MiB vmm32.vxd: plain vanilla (with 4.90.0.3000 vcache.vxd and vmm.vxd inside) i was to run the two OS by editing the sys.ini using windows xp before... my problem now is that my harddisk crashed and after having it checked, its a goner, so i had to get a new one and have new installs. thing is... before, i was able to install the two os (xp/me) by first installing ME, then upgrade it to xp. and then reinstall ME using (windows.000) folder. but the installs were made before i added the 256 video and 2 gig ram. so now, when i try the same process, ME wont boot, (this was the problem when i first added the 256 & 2 gig). with ME not booting, i cannot install both OS. i tried installing XP first and then ME but just the same, it wont boot with ME, and i cant open xp as well. so now here i am... i've installed xp but would really want to install ME as well (i have an old program that wont run in xp). is there a way to edit the sys.ini using dos so i can input the correct values. again, thanks a lot .... ronald
  14. allrighty then..... thanks a lot.....
  15. ok here's the scenario.... you've installed a genuine xp software on a pc..... should that pc crash or something that would need reformatting, can you use the same xp installer...... will there be hassles as far as registration is concerned.... again, muchas gracias for your help....
