  1. Thanks for the quick response. I did not choose to use migrate.inf because there was a warning message about mixed PATA/SATA drives. I want my USB-stick to work on computers wich for example have a PATA and a SATA harddisk. I thought (because of the warning) migrate.inf could cause problems? If not, I will use this method, it's a lot easier if I could simply use U:\.

    Because these InstallApps and AfterInstall folders are in the root of my CD, just like $OEM$, I would only have to copy them to the "$WIN_NT$.~LS" and remove 'the trick' and replace %CDDRIVE% with U:\$WIN_NT$.~LS.

    But if that would work, then I really do not understand why Multiboot doesn't simply keep the exact same folder structure? Why are Driverpacks still in the root of the stick but with a different folder name (on the CD it's in OEM folder wich is in the root of the CD) but have $OEM$ and i386 folders been moved from the root to $WIN_NT$.~LS folder?

    I am just curious and like to know more about this.. been using my cd for 4 years and I am very used to the folder stucture, especially for updating my cd.

    my cmdlines.txt (in $OEM$) contains no paths because all files are in the same folder ($OEM$):

    HIDE.EXE is in $OEM$\$$\system32 so it has been copied to C:\Windows\System32 before RunOnceEx is run.

  2. I used Multiboot to create my NTFS formatted XP setup. But I am used to install apps and do other things.

    I have $OEM$\cmdlines.txt wich will launch RunOnceEx (@T13) and path to my installers I use in RunOnceEx is %CDDRIVE%InstallApps\

    I also have a second RunOnceEx wich will run at first guiboot and the path to my installers in this RunOnceEx is %CDDRIVE%AfterInstall\

    %CDDRIVE% is determined via this trick (I use this in a lot more batchfiles during setup):

    But when I create my stick with MultiBoot10, my InstallApps folder and AfterInstall folder are not copied. I have to copy them manually. But the location of my $OEM$\cmdlines.txt on the stick has become $WIN_NT$.~LS\$OEM$. So does this mean that if I place my InstallApps and AfterInstall folder in the folder $WIN_NT$.~LS\, everything will run fine just like the CD? Or do I have to modify the trick I use in my batch files? Or do I have to copy the folders to a different location?

  3. Ok so to summarize:

    - for silent install, use the /S switch

    - for all your settings, catch them via Regshot OR copy the aimp.ini and other ini files (perhaps this is the best solution?)

    - for file association, use the /R switch with the aimp executable after install. But will this also associate with AudioCDs?

  4. Hi folks, I am so used to my nlited Windows, when something goes wrong I don't realize it could be because I removed a little to much.

    Now it seems to have come this far. When I run GPedit.msc, I get the red icon with white cross and the message (in Dutch since I have Dutch XP SP3) in the right pane "the module cannot be created" and the left pane is very empty. See the screenshot.

    I opened services.msc and started all the service that were not running. But it didn't help. I did notice that "compatibility for fast user-switching" could not be started. The error is "error 1075: the dependant service does not exist or is marked for removal". While I have the terminal service and the RPC service up and running.

    Don't know if the two problems are related.

    Here is the list of services I removed with nLite:

    I was a bit disappointed by all the hassle.. then I found a tool wich might be a good alternative and is much easier to install (just a silent switch).

    It's called imdisk virtual disk driver and its discussed here.

    After installation, you can right click image files to mount them to a (till then non-existing) virtual CD/DVD drive. But it also has the option to mount as virtual harddrive and even use the RAM memory for the virtual drive instead of harddisk space. Wich means very high reading/transfer speed.

    I haven't tested the silent installation yet, but it might be a nice alternative.There is no need for it to run in the background if you don't mount anything and I like that.

    Not quite! Those 2 only seem to concentrate on data disc burning (which is admittedly the main part of what I do), and for this imgburn works even better IMO. imgburn has a couple shortcomings (e.g. no blu-ray support & no lightscribe). Also, some options are a bit "out of the way" so most people don't find them (like in the "Build" mode, "Advanced" tab, there's a "Bootable Disc" sub-tab nicely hidden quite deep; or how you have to create a cue sheet first to burn an audio cd -- not intuitive for most!)

    Nero will do all this and WAY more... From authoring DVD stuff, reencoding videos, reencoding audio, CDs and DVDs of all kinds (bootable, mixed, audio, etc), has a movie player, will encode (and do basic editing of) videos in H.264, burns to Blu-Ray discs, does lightscribe, has a sound editor, a cover editor, and all kinds of other stuff. Others are still mostly playing catch-up with say, Nero 4 in terms of features (burns basic data discs and little more).

    imgburn handles 95% of my burning needs these days (and at 8MB, it's a LOT smaller than any recent version of Nero, stripped or not). It'll probably get Blu-Ray support soon too.

    That answer would be true 2 years ago, I sticked with Nero back then. Now I choose Infrarecorder cos it does everything I need from a burning program. You should check out the feature list. Audiocd, mp3/ogg/flac/aac whatever support. Mixed mode. boot cd.

    I don't know about bluray, but reencoding is not a task I want to do with my burning app. Handbrake and Staxrip are much better for that. Also movie player and movie editing.. from your burning app :wacko: but if thats what you want infrarecorder is definitely not the right choice.

  7. Very very nice, my compliments for creating such a good tool.

    But honestly, I don't understand why one would still stick with Nero. Both InfraRecorder and CDBurnerXP are mature enough as alternatives. No hassle installing, very small size, very intuitive interface like Nero Burning Rom. And with the same features.

    Don't use it for other languages since the ntoskrnl is language dependant. But there are other tools you can use to change your bootscreen.

    But with blue progress bar instead of green. And without the © ms corp text. So completely black with progress.

  9. I modified my bootscreen with Reshacker... but I recommend you use Bootpatcher to do that automatically. I can't give the link, its a forum and the forum seems down.

    I also used that tool and afterwards I edited Ntoskrnl to remove the copyright sentence on the bootscreen.

  10. Thanks, I am used to makecab, don't know cabarc.exe. But it's nice to see you don't need Cab file maker.

    But actually I shouldn't have created this topic. I noticed the ddf file got overwritten, compression method was set back to default mszip instead of LZX.

    I modified my config.txt file because of errors and I also added a tip for the key file to make sure Avira will always get installed (except @T13, gives a blue error screen, I don't know why and I cannot prevent it so don't install at T13).

  12. I modified ntoskrnl.exe and ntkrnlpa.exe, now I want to place the first in I386 folder (the second isn't located in that folder) and both of them in the DRIVER.CAB file. I extract this cabinet file, overwrite the two files with the modified ones and use Cab file maker to create the cab file. But the original cab file was a lot smaller! What compression method does NLite use to recompress the cab file?

    original was 50MB and my version is 86MB. While the modified files are smaller then the original files. :S
