  1. Battery and PCMCIA hardware support. However, even if these are removed they can easily be re-installed at a later date. James x
  2. Yes, we understand the difference between classic and common task views, however the two registry tweaks appear to offer the same functionality, hence the original poster asking what the difference is. Take care, James x
  3. I assume you have the WMP plugin (npdsplay.dll) in Firefox's plugins folder? On this nLited system, also with all Media Player files/codecs removed and reinstalled by titou2k's packs, I can stream all media through Firefox. Furthermore, the interface is the modern, skinned version also. This probably does not help terribly, but I just thought I would let you know that it does work - however, I have not tried reinstalling Windows with a recent nLite. Cheers, James x
  4. Hmm... the performance hit should be no greater than a standard XP installation using the Luna theme - it certainly should not 'crawl'. Furthermore, patching the files prior to installation and opting to add the extra software/tweaks ourself should also result in improved performance overall. Cheers, James
  5. Well, I do not need everything, I just wanted to patch the original XP files (replace icons/bitmaps etc. using reshacker) - the rest of the transformations, such as cursors, theme, background etc. can be integrated relatively easily. Anyway, what are you thinking? Talk to me boooggy! Cheers, James x
  6. Not bad Fridge, although skimming through your software applications list, I cannot see any programs that rely heavily on Windows components - indeed most of those programs are in my "AppsThatDontNeedToBeReinstalled" folder - several megabytes of well coded programs that run straight from the folder, without countless registry entries. Gotta love 7-Zip too James
  7. Well, several services and their dependencies were rejigged a little in SP2, so this isn't terribly surprising. James
  8. However, if I remember correctly, you do not actually lose any functionality (e.g. your DVD burner will still burn DVDs...), so I wouldn't worry too much. Cheers, James
  9. I forget the exact name of the service in question that is responsible for this - Shell Hardware Detection, or something...), however it is also tied in with Themes and Fast User Switching. I hope this proves useful. Cheers, James
  10. Perhaps the one thing I'm still hoping for is a way to retain PDFcreator (and or any other PDF printers) functionality despite removing everything. I believe printer drivers need to be retained, but really, for me this is unnecessary - all I require is an ability to create PDFs every once and a while. Actually, isn't this system restore related too? Gosh... to confusing... Cheers, James
  11. Was it really Dr. Watson related? I always kinda enjoyed getting rid of that... if you know what I mean! What problems would arise after removing Dr. Watson - is this something we can reliably test or is it perhaps a per-user crashing issue related to bad memory? James
  12. Jeremy, you mean if MPC played RealMedia out of the box, without having to use RealAlternative? In my opinion MPC is arguably too bulky with many codecs integrated into the executable; I would prefer a smaller exe and modularity via dll classes... but then again, this would defeat the object of having everthing within a single exe. Cheers, James
  13. Not wishing to sound like an old fart, but installing nLite on 200+ systems (assuming you have some kind of corporate, multi-user licence) probably contravenes the EULA... James
  14. You can modify the ffdshow settings by recreating shortcuts originally made by the official ffdshow installer; it is a rundll string if memory serves... James
  15. Lovely. I wonder which hardware the acceleration is compatible with - will my aging Radeon 9600 benefit? James
  16. So, what are the version numbers of the dlls? Did you simply extract the service pack and reintegrate the directshow filters back into your pack, or are you also modifying a few registry entries too? I gather the latter is required to actually enable the hardware acceleration in question. James
  17. Great stuff! Does the WM codec pack use the recently released hardware accelerated drivers (available in the form of a service pack), and if so can you confirm an y performance improvments? Cheers, James
  18. Probably some proprietary scripting code. Hmmm... James
  19. Thanks bud; good luck with the new job/home! James
  20. titou2k, thanks for the updated packages, and mention on your webpage. This evening I tried the latest nLite release, along with your WM codec package and the RMlite/QTlite packages; everything installed seamlessly and was most impressive - great work! Regarding the QTlite package however, I noticed that QTtask.exe was automatically run in the system tray at startup, which is most likely unnecessary. Furthermore, no control panel applet was available, preventing me from configuring the bandwidth settings (amongst others) that users are reminded of just as the browser plugin is opening. Moreover, have you noticed that Windows streaming media appears to take a rather long time to begin buffering (ie. the 'connecting to media' stage); longer than on other systems atleast - could this be Firefox plugin issue, or merely a side-issue related to removing such a large number of Windows components? One final request would be an option in all of the installers to specify a custom installation path for the codec files. Eventually, I would like to place all of the necessary codecs in a single folder somewhere (e.g. a path that will never change...), and register the classes with a single .reg file. This would make post-Windows media browsing an absolute breeze! Thanks once again, cheers! James
  21. Do you have a link to the problematic website please? James
  22. Hmm... careful you don't get carried away, otherwise it will become yet another bloated codecs package. I would say stick with Windows Media, Real Media and QuickTime. Make ffdshow an optional extra. Cheers, James
  23. RealMedia codecs are working fine in Firefox - are you experiencing problems? James
  24. One would assume it is for some kind of scripting support. I recall the BBC RealMedia stuff displayed slightly different information in the status bar when the extra files were available; changing the 'Buffering...' from a percentage to a seconds tick-down. Mind you, this was a few weeks ago, so I could be getting my wires crossed. James
