If I just want to make a small change to an nLite install in the future, what's the proper way to deal with integrated driver packs: delete the NLDVR folders, replace the TXTsetup.sif file with one from before drivers were integrated and let nLite do them again? Or can you delete the drivers out of the nLite LASTSESSION.INI, and nLite will leave the already integrated drivers alone? I just don't want to start from scratch for every piddling change or hotfix I want to add later on.

that's not very feasable for a lot of operations: 1) you may first create a 'safe' full source, where you didn't remove anything, and then, going from that, start slimming it down. 2) you may have your whole disk perfect, except for wanting to change something in the network or user section. 3) you may want to just add a newly released hotfix or driver to 'your perfect disc' at any given time. 4) you probably don't want all these extra files sitting on your hard disk permanently, just so you can slipstream and patch your windows disk over and over from scratch... its not that good of a movie to keep watching repeats, although I'd give an Oscar to our friendly nLite creator any day ;-)

found the directory list in TXTsetup.sif: 2009 = NLDRV\013 2010 = NLDRV\014 2011 = NLDRV\015 2012 = NLDRV\016 2013 = NLDRV\017 2014 = NLDRV\018 2015 = NLDRV\019 2016 = NLDRV\020 2017 = NLDRV\021 2018 = NLDRV\022 2019 = NLDRV\023 2020 = NLDRV\024 those are all the duplicates. Are there any other references I need to remove, to avoid having windows setup looking for non-existent duplicates of drivers?

My repair option, (both ASR,which wants a previously prepared floppy anyway - no floppy on my system ) and the old "hit R for repair" at the screen where you choose partitions to install on, have already not been working in my SP2 disk... but yes, if anyone knows if there's a line to put in Winnt.sif, that would force windows to prompt for repair?

hmmm I just downloaded the final SP3 pack linked here on MSFN... is there a reason you're suggesting to use those other ones?

I made a working SP3 CD including IE7, MP11, hotfixes etc. After install, I found windows update wanted to give me 2 more hotfixes, and I needed to change some user and computer name info. So, I ran nLite again on the same file set, to add these details. nLite smartly knew, that it had already added one of the hotfixes and the themes, and gave a message that it was skipping them. but on the drivers, it failed to notice and added the full 60MB set of drivers again, with a new set of folders: the original set of drivers was in folders from NLDRV\001 to 012 then added duplicates of everything in folders NLDRV\013 to 024 I imagine it won't be enough if I just delete the extra folders? There must be some references to these, that must also be purged?

That file is dated 2004 or something, its way old and it didn't seem to be needed at all for my SP3 install.

Thanks for the tips, guys! Exorr, I think you nailed it... Danker, I was testing on an old IDE machine, and my new one with Sata drives has never required me to add drivers with the F6 function. gonna do a new one and re-test

First off, nLite is pretty awesome, Thanks a lot for that! I created a working XP SP3 install cd, with MP11, IE7 a lot of hotfixes and a few drivers for my system. I tested the install and at one point in the installation, it throws up some windows-98-looking prompts: First, it wants my user name, eventhough I've created a user and an auto-login (with password) in nLite. Then it wants network settings - even though the successive input boxes it shows me, are all pre-filled with the correct data. (including things that are specific to my install, like computer name, so its not just filled with default suggestions that so happen to fit my setup) After I enter my name, and then hit "OK" on the rest of the boxes, the installation completes perfectly well. Does anyone have an idea what would cause this?
