  1. Hey guys,

    I'm trying to make a new installation of XP on a virtual machine that already runs XP.

    I created an unattend.txt file with setupmgr, and I mapped the I386 directory to the Z: drive.

    Now when I'm running winnt32 /s:z:\ /unattend:unattend.txt , Setup window starts and everything goes well til the actual Installation process.

    Then I get the error message, "Setup was unable to build the list of files to be copied.

    the system cannot find the path specified". I tried to make the unattend file few times, I still get the same results..

    Here is the unattend.txt:

    ;SetupMgrTag
    [Data]
    AutoPartition=1
    MsDosInitiated="0"
    UnattendedInstall="Yes"

    [Unattended]
    UnattendMode=FullUnattended
    OemSkipEula=Yes
    OemPreinstall=Yes
    TargetPath=\WINDOWS

    [GuiUnattended]
    AdminPassword=blabla
    EncryptedAdminPassword=Yes
    OEMSkipRegional=1
    TimeZone=135
    OemSkipWelcome=1

    [UserData]
    ProductKey=xxx-xx-xx-xx
    FullName="Trainning"
    OrgName=""
    ComputerName=*

    [RegionalSettings]
    LanguageGroup=12

    [SetupMgr]
    ComputerName0=Train
    ComputerName1=Train1
    DistFolder="C:\Winxp\I386"
    DistShare=windist

    [Identification]
    JoinWorkgroup=WORKGROUP

    [Networking]
    InstallDefaultComponents=Yes

    Now C:\Winxp\I386 is where the Windows Installation files are.

    any idea what's going wrong?

  2. i tried to install the OS on a virtual machine [vmware] with both of the keys, it required me to activate.

    but both keys worked for the installation...

    also HP got a recovery directory, you also got recovery partiton and recovery cd's (2 dvds the computer recommends you to make on the first boot). the recovery partiton is available to recover the computer to the manufactory condition, with all the drivers and apps came with it as it just booted for the first time.

    what i tried to do, is to make an OEM media with my licence, since i'm not really feel that secured with that my backup is over my HD's..

    but i tried to install the OEM OS with both keys, both required me to activate..

  3. thats exactly what im doing now..

    i tried again to make the unattend install + sp + hotfixes, it worked but since its OEM key it requires to activate.

    now im tring to install only the default I386 folder, with the key and will see if it works. i dont mind to have only the xp+sp2 cd, because its only backup cd for my laptop..

    but testing the img step by step is great idea, thanks.

  4. I've got a laptop of HP. ofcourse it comes with windows xp installed, w/ OEM licence.

    at the button of the laptop, there is the sticker with the KEY and the microsoft approved stuff..

    but when i run a XP-Key application, it detects a total diff key than the key at the button.

    means that my XP was installed with a diff cd-key, than the key i've got with the laptop.

    anybody knows how can it be? again, its OEM licence. Thanks.

  5. hey eveybody,

    i made a bootable install of fresh xp + sp2 it developers + alot of hot fixes (grabbed almost everything from the windows update downloader)

    now when i ran the setup on the computer, i had 2 issues:

    first, at the first install, the setup got stuck on 'remainning 33mins..' although the information screen kept changing on informin whats new with xp, the install process got stucked.

    i restarted the machine, and setup resumed the installation. then i got an error saying i gave an invaild key to the unattend installation file. i fixed the key issue and setup continued.

    is that was the problem? i mean, why wouldnt the setup notice me on the first time i had a problem with the key? can it be something else with the img?

    now on the second install, when it extracted & installed the addition files i added, i got this error message:

    "unregmp2.exe - unable to locate component.

    The application failed to start beause WMDRMSDK.DLL wass not found.

    Re-installing the application may fix this problem".

    i got this message like 4-5 times, and then setup continued without problems.

    thanks in advance fellas!
