  1. Hello and a nice and warm 2008. I've had done many installations of Vista and I discovered a very easy tweak to let your Vista fly. The trick is to do nothing. Huh, nothing? Yes, only use the defrag of Vista or schedule it. Some spam here? Absolutely not. I've discovered that the UserJrnl$Top data is very close to the filealignment on the disk. If a thirt party derfragmenter defrag all the files and as example I took PerfectDisk. PefectDisk has an excellent job in doing a boottime defrag and the surprise is that you can't blame anyone, nor PerfectDisk. After testing a defragmenter the machine boots up very slowly. Why? I don't know it exactly. Not for one day, no, for ever. Clearing the prefetch folder harms Vista hard. The tip is. Once installed. Leave it totally alone and schedule the defragmenter of Vista himself. Conclusion: Vista depends heavenly on the lay on the disk out who create it self That's exacly the secret of superfetcher. Once I lack any other thirth party defragmenter my system flies at boot. One line passes by on the bootscreen and 4 seconds later the logonscreen is ready and no 'welcome' message to see. Loading times of heavy games decreases slightly. More the work in Vista goes much faster with less noise of the seek sound from the harddisk when another defragmneter did his job. Can anybody explain me why this strategy is used. This trick won't work in XP. XP always tooks advantage of a thirth party defragmenter. Is my conlusion right?
  2. Nice topic I can see what systems are over the world and this one is mine. AMD64 3800+ X1950XT 4096 MB RAM 2 harddisks Very small monitor B)
  3. GMT would be the "global" New Years. But it is of course celebrated locally in each time zone. Yes, thanx I didn't know that and it whas always a question in my thoughts. But why not at the Dayzone? One cycle is 24 hours and the GMT is exactly the mid (12 hour). Is that the reason? By the way: The goods to ya all in 2008
  4. Yes, that's what I compromised yesterday by building a Vlited Vista. No option and to be honest, the service pack has little advantage on my machine and the recent performance patches for Vista works fine. One of the things that whas fixed in SP1 whas the speed of copy from disk to disk. This is not a Vista issue. It's an Aero issue! Why? Because 7-zip copied all my needs at full speed. Even without SP1. In my Vlite I disabled also the Traditional languages like Chinese and Simplified Chinese like Japanese and Korean. I dont know a word of them and it takes 1297MB in account on the WIM file :shocking: Speech support? Not needed and if needed, the hardware I shall buy will have additional software, so I think you never need these 417 MB on the image (what should it takes in account on your harddisk?) With SP1 and an original setup from origibnal disk the c:\windows map only takes nearly 10 Gigabyte With Vlite and without SP1 this map is [ is looking actually] 6,37 Gigabyte at this moment when the system is in full duty. Only 63 percent left with the same functionality I need. The space saved is enough for a good pagefile.... Do you really need SP1? Is this maybe the reason Vlite can't take this wave1 file in it. The file isn't complete? Vlite tries to shrink Vista and SP1 is to bloom it utterly. Cannot be combined together? Sorry for some English faults in tekst. My English is good, but far not perfect. I try to learn it by using it frequently? Suggestions are welcome and I don't see it as commentairy.
  5. Hai Today at 12:00 Dutch time minus one hour the hunt begins and every hour there's a new year celebration. For now, it is (as far as I know) the beginning of 2008 in New Zealand. Nice idea to share You're not the only one who celebrates it. In the United States is it 6 hours earlier than here and in Moscow it is 4 hours later than here in Holland. So They've their party far later? is this right?? The Americans are far earlier with 2008. Question? When the really 2008 begins? At New Zealand at the dayzone or at GMT? As so far, everybody here a happy and nice 2008. It's an even number and I think it means more luckyness than the uneven years. As I mention it. Let the Firework begin!
  6. Take a boot such a time on your machine? I think it is just a bitmap in one of the systemfiles and you can edit it like the same way as in Windows XP 32-bit. But the bitmap could locate elderly in the file because you face 64-bit code. Just use a HEX editor (search for the BalusC server in the Netherlands, there are translation pages, but Dutch is in the computerworld almost English), so compaire the startposition of the bitmap and insert the custom image into the file. It must be exact the same size and resolution or it will fail utterly! A hard job you choosen for. Some nasty things happens! The server is down forever. It was a very, very usefull server with lot's of professional information. No, this could not be true Here: (also in English!) http://balusc.xs4all.nl/bye/bye.html
  7. May I ask why you choose Vista anyway? First, you ripped out some features exclusive for Ultimate and second you disturb yourself on Aero? Do you use a x64 cpu like a Core 2 Duo or AMD64 ? Is the preview program of Windows X64 not a thought of? You can download Windows X64 for free at Microsoft for a evaluation of 120 days. In this time you can test it and play with it. I've Vista legally at home, but I'm now at day 43 of 120 in Windows X64 and I've never seen such a good and stable Windows and very, very fast! Just a thought of...no offense anyway
  8. I promised to my brotherhoods that I never will follow commercial actions like this one. At first glance it sounds innocent, but your informatie is worth lots of money, more than the copy you get. You're always in disadvantage by commerce. As systemoperator I had a hard job to do to get immune for ant form of commerce. If not, our corporation will fail. The only one who can dicide what to buy is only YOU and notbody else on this world, nor Mr. Gates! The strongest weapon against commerce is one word; satisfactory and a firm chosen OS. Not for one thousand dollar I intend to volunteer my privacy. Maybe I ought to be stuped, but it isnt't. The thoughts are far more deeper than that stupid action. Dispitely they will get much response I guest. Do you know my kind of intention in this topic? Once volunteered information, it never gets lost. It will be stored on many systems; the ultime back-up... Is Bill begging or praying??
  9. As in the help file of Windows Vista there's an entry called: This good old PC <search for it> My system is 28 month old and is not a highend model anymore. We talk about a: AMD 3800+, 4096 MB DDR1, X1950pro GPU It is not new here, but Vista feels slugish on my machine. If I compaire it to my X64 edition it is a heavy loaded OS. The boottime is very good and the response is also good, nothing wrong, but I want to talk about games and other heavy (3D) apps. UT2004 draws 112% performanceloss in Vista 32-bit compaired to Windows X64 with both the newest drivers and settings! LOTR BFME II draws 89% performanceloss compaired to each other. UT3 (a brandnew game) is not measured, but it is also heavy noticable. My question is: Why is the 3D performanceloss so high on my system (Aero in count)? If I wander what a Core 2 Duo could do with Vista what can it do against X64!? Can anybody tell me why Microsoft has chosen so giant jump in code. Windows driver foundation, Readyboost and al the new features. I've had never measured a performance gain when using them and searching a file is not faster as in X64. Is this due to breadcrumb search technology? If I compaire the issue in 2001 against Windows 2000 and Windows XP. I know it as yesterday I whas at work and we've had a huge discussion in which whas better. At these days, everbody bows for XP and Vista can make it hardly (is my point of view). I've tried Windows 2000 these days, but I notice the lack of instruction code support like SSE2 and 3 etc. It is not for these days and Windows XP waits the same destination of the eternety fields of data. Can anybody tell me what the difference is between Windows XP 32-bit and Windows X64? I doesn't mean the actual difference, but the difference in support and the possibilities of scalability? Can anybody tell me the nasty differences under the hood? What's your opinion about this issue? Sincerely, Jimmy H.
  10. I do it on another way. I have 3 harddisks here and 2 of them are in my system. On the third harddisk there's a fully working Vista version present. I only need to plug this disk in and set another bootpriority in my BIOS and it works. With this version I can do recovery of the affacted OS, but Windows Vista does an excellent job bij his in-place upgrade so you don't have primairely do that huge job. My custom data is on the another drive in my system which is also the pagedrive of Vista. Also I keep a back-up of all data on an extern medium should it be needed in what kind of case it matters. I never lose some data. PS: In most modern BIOSses you can choose the primair harddisk so you don't have to use a shared bootloader.
  11. Yes, I agreed. I've had a hard job to do when removing Norton Internet Security from the labtop of a friend of mine. I don't use thirt party programa's. I killed it by hand and the machine flies again. I know that not everbody can do that. You must exactly know what to delete and Norton is not the most friendly software when removing. The labtop will simply hang. That new labtop came with NIS preinstalled and it is a Intel Celeron, not the fastest CPU on earth. Just the most pure form of torturing the speed and usability of this brandnew laptop. Compair it to a little car which climbing a mountain up.
  12. @Yimkoh That's clear. You won't have to use Vista and XP suits enough for most people. Vista knows some bugs as XP does in his early days and I can really remember a discussion between me and my collegue. What should be fine 2000 or XP and my choice was clearly Windows 2000 at that very day. Windows XP whas new on the markt and also with XP there where some serious problems. Though, Vista is better than XP in his early days. (I do not talk about Beta versions). I've a plan for you and maybe it is a good one I hope. Create a dualboot with both Windows versions and take your time to explore Vista. Vista differs really from XP under the hood. Your system is strong enough to run Vista with no doubt, but you can't play huge 3D games, no.
  13. Best Friend, I can nothing do against this kind of reaction. You say p*ssed off and I can understand it completely, but what whas your reason to be so negative about Vista? What happend? Though it's personal. I don't have much problems with my Vista partition. The little problem in Vista I descripe is somethings what depends on Vlite and not Vista. That's the clue. You make me curious
  14. I've red it and it's almost French (don't matter). Most things I recognize but my main question is: "do you have disabled SFC in Nlite?" Deleting and ignoring the CAT files during install my result in several strange behaviours like the one you face with. PS: I've a dualboot with X64 and Vista and both where rebuilded versions. XP by Nlite and this is a succes and Vista via Vlite and the result is that I can't use admin privileges on program's in menu start. Should I start a program under that circumstance I must open it within the menu start and not by most opened. I don't know why, but I left SFC alone. Does anybody know here if it is correct to undertstand that Nlite as Vlite as wel have some bugs in their work? They are not all SFC related I discovered?
  15. Thanks for quick reply (so i cut a bit the cite...) To facing that you mean i maybe have to - again - install the english UI pack into my Ultimate The german terms used by Microsoft seems not very unconvenient - maybe some of them could be better. Chris Yeah right, if I hung around I can easeally reply
  16. Yes, thank you Indeed I use JRE and there's only one version of JRE. I know yhat there are three main Framework versions 1.1, 2 and 3. I guess that software like Microsofts ForeFront needs the latest Framework installed. I never understood that they won't intergrate the framework in Windows by setup like Vista.
  17. Yes, that's completely correct. I'm encountering so many problems with Norton's sollutions and there's nothing wrong with Norton except their software puts a huge load on your system. On a hypermodern system the delays are less than on a some older system. I guess you're right because many of the homepeople don't use supersystems and a Pentium 4 3000 Presscott by example is still a common CPU. Therefore I use Hijackthis by my own and AVG without resedent shield. I'm never infected, but I can hardly expect everybody could do that job with Hijackthis. Why I don't use the resident shield of AVG? It's not an accident by using illegal content but the purpose of my handcheck is to keep my system at outmost performance. Copying some data between my 2 disks results in a 23 MB/s average with the shield enabled and a roughly 50 MB/s without shield. I use the discipline to check on period times Hijackthis and I never found somethings unusual. Just a matter of outmost tweaking? These are some tips what you can do in place of the shield what consumes always a load on your CPU no matter how fast it is. 1. If you use IE6 disable install on demand in advanced options. 2. Disable enable thirt party browser plugins 3. Most people don't need SSDP discovery service, remote registry and secondairy logon even as the distribute tracking client. 4. Enable TCP/IP 4 filtering (possible in Windows X64) you can set in the network properities, seek deep. Found by IP4 properities on the last tab rightunder. A restart is needed. 5. Make a hijackthis log and keep it safe. the next week you make a new log and compairs it with the one before. You can hardly mis an item. 6. Use Opera or another thirt party browser for internetbanking. I use for my banking the 64-bit version of IE7. Not the 32-bit. 7. Wisdom is a prey. Don't download anything you don't need, some dogmatism. AVG and NOD32 ought to be fast. These are some options.
  18. To be really honest; the best virusscanner are you. In my situation I've installed AVG professional [paid for] and Windows Defender for just a background sollution. Why? I'm fascinated by the simplicity of Hijackthis van merijn.org. I know al legal services and I simply don't send them to the ignore list because I match the MD5 sum of the files if they where infected or not. To compaire this 2 times a week with a really small and outmost powerfull application no virus, malware or crimeware can pass through my system. My last infection whas in 2001 (not a joke) and I destroid it succesfully by hand. I'm worried about local peoples with a simple aknowledgement of the technic behind those crimeware infiltrations. That's also a reason I choose for a 64-bit OS. At this moment Windows X64 is almost immune to all virusses in 32-bit code. All crimeware is 32-bit because you cought the biggest group of 32-bit Windows users who are in overhead. I also use the Opera browser and for telebanking the 64-bit version of IE7 which is tweaked outmost by me. The top anti-virus sollution is a simple program that won't put a huge load on your system. AVG 7.5 free: medium sollution, but catch most of the populair virusses. AVG prof: good configurable anti-virus I use. Here it never dismissed one virus. (offcourse I get sometime a warning, hijackthis it!) NOD32: Has a medium load on your system but it is very accurate by it's uniek feature; (execute in seperated pages in NOD32 hook) [read: superstealth] Avast: How dare they to use a name to be 'simple'. It tremendously cripples my system on it's knees. But a note here. You can tweak it so it has a little load ahead. To understand my opinion: Never consider to disable SFC in the Nlite section! Do you know my goal?
  19. setup.exe is in dotnetfx35setup.exe you need to extract that as well. If you'll notice the 3rd line, it says "Extract dotNetFx35setup.exe" I didn't try just running dotNetFx35setup.exe because USSF didn't recognize any switches. but after I extracted it I still couldn't verify switches, so I should have just ran it like you but I had already extracted it so I kept it like that. I did try to specify I don't really know what I'm doing I just know the package was cut from 197MB to 85.8MB and still installs. Try to install Framework 2 and 3 seperately. Then apply the great upgrade. I guess it should be work fine. I use version 2 with all patches on a Nlited edition and it runs fine. Just seperately installed. I don't have a huge hat for multi-installers. I'm sorry, but I want to evaluate a possibility to terminate some processes before do a multi-setup? Do you also recognize a strange behavior when installing Framewrok 2 64-bit? Some services of Framework 2 claims for a medium time the total CPU consumption áfter a reboot. [This is only once, after the install and after a reboot!] Now MOM.EXE kicks in his place so I can't trace what service it was, but it uses 160 MB RAM when proceeding and 100% CPU utilization. Yet again, it whas only once. Does anybody know what it means? MOM.EXE claims almost zero load on my CPU. Sorry, I don't know much about Framework and I'm focussed on back-up sollutions. Not a Framework discussion. Though, I really like to read it
  20. I really like to hear that. Nice job. I suggest it whas Windows XP. Nah, what matters a different language in the bootmenu? Windows should be properly. I always use an English Windows version. I don't know if you face it, but the Dutch translation of Vista is inferior. Maybe my English is not perfect, but I can read it quick and correct. No thoughts about mistranslations. How is the German version of Vista? Do you face mistranslations in your native language?
  21. I sincerely want to add some command. Maybe I'm wrong and in that case 'really' sorry I'm a systemoperator and I'm asking myself how much we need all these Framewrok versions. Even on most loaded servers frameworks puts a drop in performance because it have a heavy load on the disks when needed. In my homesituation I need Framework 2 to use WUD (Windows Update Downloader) and CCC (Catalyst Control Center). Even at work I never use Framework 3 and only version 2 suits enough or do we face a new trend in sofwaredeveloping? Asking seriously. Can anybody tell me what special purpose version 3 has in comparation with version 2? Even we talk about version 3.5... I don't know and I want to know it. That's the reason for this post. PS: We don't use Office or Microsoft Workshop software like Microsoft's Forefront. We use OpenOffice and our company is highly appreciated with Open Source sollutions. Could this be the reason I never needed version 3? Suits this for local people or only for large companies?
  22. Dear neighbourhood I'm living only 15 km by air from Germany! Do you have an original Windows CD? I ask this because the sollution is simple. Boot from the CD and choose to go to the recovery console Simply copy NTLDR to C and use the Fixboot command. A format is not necessairy. In the most tough way there's a possibility to do an inplace upgrade with Windows. That means that Windows will reinstall himself with all default settings, thus use automatic updates again after the reparation. Utterly scan your bootsectors Sector 0 is the MBR himself Sector 1-31 where reserved for further proposial, but no one told me what kind of purpose it really has (rootkits?!). Sometimes these sectors contain data, but I don't know what kind of data. In my case it whas not a kind of evil code. Please take a closer look to Windows setup options and if you dont have an original CD (ie in case of a preassembled syste, like Dell) contact your local vendor. Succes PS: As far as I know, every XP version can do an in place upgrade. I won't damage anything. Always have a full synced back-up like one on a very huge USB key or on an extern medium. Never thrust on local harddisks as back-up because virusses make no excpetion of what disk they face.
  23. Yes, indeed I shall think about tips for your plans. Tons of succes wished
  24. Sounds like a misconfigured Vlite compilation. Do you have the DVD scanned for errors?
  25. 12-21-05. That's the datum of the post of these drivers. But most of these chips are from the same factory ?? I guess it right, or?
