  1. Alright so I got a thick head...I just took the 361 out from under the coffee table (temp gauge showing 94 F.) and now it is on top (temp gauge showing 83 F.)...I'll give a try....Let the 361' temperature dissipate to the entire room......

Houston, we are back up and running.......

UPDATE: No problems. The receiver is out in the open and NOT under the coffee table. I guess all the shutdowns were due to temperature increases. I thought it would look better having the receiver out of sight. BUT, it looks pretty good out in the open and is now fully functional...........

  2. Funny you should mention the Onkyo TX-SR606 (Dolby True HD DTS-HD). I'm figuring it is the best bang for the buck...It is on my wish list along with the Yamaha RX-V663 (hence removed). If you see a great price on the 606 I would like to know about it.

I have a Onkyo (Quartz Synthesized Tuner Amplifier) I bought back in '86 still going strong. I use it downstairs.

The Yamaha 361 was just for my den. Price was right and had two digital optical inputs. As described, I can't use them at the same time.....I have had no shut downs since using one optical line for the PC and Red and White RCA jacks for the Dish Network receiver.....

s***. The 361 just shut down................

  3. Thanks for the info and the possibilities....I only paid $175 for it...I did call them and they said ship it to them....I'm not interested in doing that.....Again, it is working now as described above....Makes me a little sour on Yamaha though........

Speaking of temperature. I do have the Yamaha hidden on the lower deck of a coffee table that is covered with a plastic table covering to hide my Yamaha, wireless router and all the cables and wires. I wonder if the overall temperature is building under there? Could that be the reason for the shut downs?

  4. Alright you PC brains out there; got a mystery for you to solve. In my Den, I have a PC, Dish Network Receiver and a Yamaha AV Receiver (two separate digital optical line inputs). When running a digital optical line from the Dish Network Receiver to the Yamaha AV Receiver AND running a digital optical line from the PC to the Yamaha AV Receiver it will work for a while but, will cause the Yamaha AV Receiver to turn off. I will try turning it on again, and boom. It will just shut off or go into the standby mode whatever. Blank lifeless screen on the Yamaha Receiver; WHAT GIVES! This happens when having both (Dish and the PC) on at the same time AND will happen with just using the Dish. I have to unplug one of the digital optical lines running into the Yamaha it get it reset and working again. Never lasts for long because the same phenomenon will happen again and again.

So, I tried using analog lines from the Dish and PC to the Yamaha. Ran Red and White RCA jacks from the Dish to the Yamaha and went out of the PC using the headphone output jack with an analog 3.5mm plug going to a Red and White RCA jack to the Yamaha. As I was putting this together: BOOM. Yamaha went dead again.

I said to hell with it and went back to the digital optical line running from the PC to the Yamaha and left the analog RCA connection intact from the Dish to the Yamaha. IT HAS BEEN PLAYING NON STOP EVER SINCE. NO SHUT DOWNS.

To recap, I am unable to use digital optical lines from the Dish and PC to the Yamaha. I am unable to use analog lines from the Dish and PC to the Yamaha. BUT, CAN run a digital optical line from the PC to the Yamaha and a analog Red and White RCA plugs from the Dish to the Yamaha with no shutting down of the Yamaha AV Receiver….Why is that?

  5. Well, it happened again. This time I had to hold down the “on” button to shut down Windows. Garbled screen again and then nothing—no windows and an absolutely blank screen. The best way to describe it is like when your digital TV signal has problems and the picture begins breaking apart. Puzzle looking parts of the picture are missing. What to do? I guess it is ANOTHER defective card from NVIDIA. Thanks boys. Good news it is a rare event. What a second! The last time this happened was Sunday morning and today is Thursday? At least I got three non-error days……….

Life with windows……….or is it Life with NVIDIA?

  6. wow lexonex. thanks. You may want to download and run the AUD_allOS_5790.3x_5713.7v_PV_IDTGUI_v83.exe file from Intel's web site which has version 6.10.5713.7 of the IDT/Sigmatel Audio drivers released May 22, 2008. Fully compatible with your IDT hardware ID "7682" as I've checked myself.

IDT fixed the version number "blunder" in this new IDT 92xx audio package from Intel. Now includes the IDT Audio control panel program.

I won't let this topic die until IDT releases more new IDT/Sigmatel audio drivers made in 2008 to computer manufacturers like Dell/Gateway/HP/Sony and that Vista users can obtain SP1 through Windows Update with the latest available IDT/Sigmatel audio drivers installed on their machines.

GADS! LOST MY SOUND! Thank Goodness you put this up for me Superman. Sound is back!....I don't know what I did. I uninstalled iTunes and Quick Time because I don't want it on my PC. I went to my Zune Software to listen to some Rock and total silence. Got it back now!.......

  7. Thanks. Just downloaded and installed the "latest" driver .exe file...A word to other "newbies"; when installing new drivers first "save" the .exe file to your "downloads" (example) and THEN make sure you "Run As Administator"....Some downloads (.exe files) will not install UNLESS you do it this way e.g. HP ScanJet G4050 driver.

I'll be watching for any future garbled screens.....thanks again.

By the way, (1) why does Windows say I have the "latest" driver when I obviously do not? (2) Why could I not get this driver in my Windows Updates?....And (3) is this part of the Frustration/aggravation owning a PC? Never mind (3), I already know that answer..What about (1) and (2)?

  8. If you have that card in the system that you have in your signature, then you're a few drivers behind. Go to Nvidia's website and you'll find that 175.16 is the latest driver.

(I usually have the same problem that you're experiencing when I run beta drivers for my video card on one of my systems (a 7600GT). It seems as though those cards don't like beta drivers with Vista.)

    Is this the latest?:

    GeForce Release 175 WHQL

    Version: 175.16

    Release Date: May 16, 2008

    Operating System: Windows Vista 64-bit

    Language: U.S. English

    File Size: 51.4 MB

I'm a dummy when it comes to these things.....I think it is .....

  9. Sounds more like a bios issues with the cards then a driver issue.

How quickly does this garbled text screen happen?

Also what is the manufacturer of the video card? I know its an nVidia but i mean the actual maker i.e gigabyte, asus, others.

The garbled screen begins immediately. I can barely make out the text to hit "run vista".

Manufacturer? mmmm. I threw the box out....Got me.......

  10. It happened again this morning (a rare event but, it DOES happen now and then). I turned on my PC and got a garbled unintelligible screen shot and then Windows shut down. It restarted itself and then everything was fine. Windows informed me to check if there were any “updated” Graphics Card drivers available. I believe I have the most recent driver. Is anyone else having this problem with the NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS Graphics Card?

A little background; my original system came with the NVIDIA GeForce 6600 which had this same identical problem constantly giving me a garbled screen 3 – 4 times a week sometimes.

What is the true nature of the problem? Is the NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS Graphics Card as defective as the 6600? Or is this a Windows Vista problem?

Is there any expert on this board that really does know? And IF it is the Graphics Card, can anyone recommend an ATI Card for my system? (No card fans or wires please. I just want to plug it in)

    Thanks.

    JIMMY OLSEN

    Dear Superman aka erpdude8,

I thought long and hard over this. My emotions have been spent. I have crossed that threshold of frustration and just don’t give a **** anymore regarding MS drivers or their operating systems.

Vista? Yes, it looks good and I have no problem with it’s’ bells and whistles. Where is the performance and ease of use for consumers? MS executives are out there hyping MS “next” operating system and some kind of “touch screen” interface... WHAT HAPPENED TO THE KERNEL UPDATE FOR 64- BIT VISTA? WHAT ABOUT FIXING THE AUDIO DRIVER ISSUE?

I just got off the MS band wagon. I’m letting the MS parade pass me bye as in GOOD-BYE..…No regrets….Decision has been made….My Mac Pro (single quad) arrives next week….Jimmy gets to ride the Leopard! TRUE 64-bit architecture using ALL cores. ALL drivers up-to-date.

    leopard.gif

    --see order below--

Sure, I have to keep my PC Vista a few more years to make good on my investment. I’ll have it upstairs when I need it or I should say when I choose to turn it on.

MS this is one reporter not buying what you have to sell……….

Because of you Superman, I now have Audio AND the Vista SP1 update! ..... This cub reporter is grateful....

(regarding ANOTHER IDT/Sigmatel Audio driver Download that IDT and MS just can't manage to get into a Windows Update? MS knows where MS can put it)

  14. What is Microsoft Update Catalog?

It's a service from Microsoft that provides a listing of updates that can be distributed over a corporate network. You can use it as a one-stop location for finding Microsoft software updates, drivers, and hotfixes.

If I use the Microsoft Update Catalog, do I still have to use Windows Update?

The Microsoft Update Catalog provides updates, including drivers, that are for distribution across a corporate network. For non-corporate scenarios, we recommend you use automatic updating or the Microsoft Update website.

In Windows Vista, you no longer use a Web site to check for updates. Instead, you can check for updates by opening Control Panel, and opening Windows Update. If you use Microsoft Update, you can install updates for Windows and other Microsoft software products through Windows Update.

I'm a home user. No corporte network here. Just because it is not in the MS Update Catalog does not mean it has been taken away from Windows Update. Right?

So finally, all sound is working. Optical line good...Windows sound is running...Uptodate now I guess.....

    :thumbup

  16. Software version 2.5.447.0

That was a great surprise getting updated software and device firmware. The “gapless” music functionality did throw me off a little. I’m not a big music fan. I use my Zune 30GB almost exclusively for podcasts and when listening; one segment finished; it would jump around and just start another without any notice.

I download some podcasts that have 3 (three) separate MP3 files. This is just one podcast chopped up but, I want to listen to the podcast in “order”. The new software makes it much easier. I just simply do an “edit” and assign a “track” number to each MP3 file in order of the podcast show e.g. 01, 02 …. Working great! IF that is the podcast downloads as "music"......I don't know why but, some podcast MP3 files go into my "music" Zune software section while others go into the "podcast" section. Does anyone know why and how can I control this? I would love to have certain podcasts go into the music section of the software where I can assign "track" numbers AND "album artwork".

suggestions for future software updates; PLEASE let me asign "track" numbers AND "update album artwork" to any podcast like I can do for any music album.

  17. Unfortunately none of our programs are Windows 64 bit compatible at this time.

    http://forums.avanquestusa.com/aq/showthread.php?t=5741

Alright; no big deal. I just can’t fax say a multiple page PDF file by simply clicking on print and select “Capture Fax BVRP” as my printer. The new free BVRP Phone Tools DOES work with my 64 bit O.S. I can still fax any document but, must “save as” the individual PFD file pages in .jpg images and they will fax just fine individually. Any word document I must save as .rtf (Rich Text Format) and that will fax just fine.

Bottom line, SP1 has been successfully installed and everything is working. Maybe a little differently, but IS working………

  18. Ok, for all other Vista users having Sigmatel/IDT audio driver problems and not getting Vista SP1, please post here and mention the model no. or hardware ID no. of the Sigmatel audio device.
