    Just to clarify, I really meant nothing else than what Ricktendo said. Sorry for clumsy wording! No integration with nlite is necessary, as long as one is able to give the resulting i386 a proper xpize treatment.

    I used the 4.7 for a couple of XP images I did a time ago and it really made the icing on the cake. Patching the I386 instead of installing some transformation pack afterward is also very preferable.

    Seems great, but alas, I'm on sp2 right now.

    I did'nt dare to continue, but reckon this one can't be used to "xpize-ify" an nLited windows install. Is this correct, and would the next beta eventually give this opportunity?

    SP3 v3311 slipstream error

    My wxperiences with 3244:

    1. Started with a fresh SP2 Win Pro. Integrated with SP3 3244, used one single addon and a few drivers and a quite conservative nLite scheme. Plenty of RunOnceEx progs, though, the standard collection actually. Mase ISO and ran in vmWare. Result: file copying was hardly started before there was an error (sorry, no screenshot). Stranded there.

    2. Tried same thing, only with a fresh SP1 this time. Things worked much better now. The install went fine and my RunOnceEx list was visible (hey, that's not common with me :rolleyes: ). Then, trouble. Restarted after runonceex was done, after the bootscreen xp insisted on bringing forth the disk checking tool. Only that it couldn't find it, so some error message came about which included a reference to vista. Then it restarted. That loop continued three times until i didn't bother anymore and turned it off.

    So I will stay away from this one for now. This is quite strange though, since I never had any trouble with any of the earlier versions of sp3.

    Error during first log-in

    Good spot!

    But I'm a bit puzzled, as to why it is like that. Those are defaults from nLite, I didn't touch them. How come temp_dir ends up without "" while the other ones do?

    I'll make a new nlited installation and deliberately put "" around both to experiment.

    This is how it looks. In nLite I set up an administrator account called Kent, to be automatically logged in every time windows starts.

    All is well and everything works as it should EXCEPT during the first login, just before the RunOnceEx session. It might even be caused by some of the first program installs in RunOnceEx, but I don't think that. The first programs are like Soundblaster live driver, fliqlo screensaver and Civilization 2.

    So, any obvious wrongs that you can see or suggest?

    Here's the last_session.ini if some of you would be kind enough to ponder on it.

    Strange problem with 16-bit programs

    Hi, guys.

    I have a small collection of old games which is installed with my customized windows. Examples of these are Slam! (pic in the bottom) and Colonization. The problem is that as soon I conjure up a menu from these games (either from the menu bars directly or by right-clicking) the game just exits. Sometimes I can get the glimpse of an error message, but I'm nowhere near being able to study it.

    Recently I got the bright idea to use CamStudio to record such an incident and finally the error was "caught on tape" (Pic below) As you can see, there's nothing special, just the standard "something effed up in windows" report.

    It goes without saying that this is quite annoying. Especially Colonization is tiresome to play when every use of the menu crashes the game. Also, I hate to not have the faintest idea what _really_ is wrong, so therefore i come to you, brilliant and clever guys. This can't be a unique problem, I reckon. I have tried googling, but I'm not really sure what to search for (english is not my native language) it kind of didn't return anything of value.

    - As stated, they all seem to be 16-bit programs

    - I overclock quite heavily, but I clocked down and tried again, same result.

    - Specs: WinXP pro, Dot Net 1 and 2, latest java, bunch of progs as well as the most recent update pack from Ryan

    - Nothing shows in the event log.

    - Compatibility mode doesn't make a difference.

    - The system is a modified installation with nLite, SP3 or SP2 doesn't seem to matter, same fault with both. The "run 16 bit programs in their own memory space" choice in nLite doesn't make any difference.

    -could it be a service that doesn't work the way it should? I have deviated a bit from the standard set-up, though nothing radical. Error reporting service is set to automatic.

    - I have done one registry tweak that removes pop-up balloons, and this tweak, to speed up file management:

    The installation has a bunch of programs installed as well as quite a few registry tweaks, mostly from MSFN. I have mentioned a few obvious ones, but very possibly there are other tweaks that may have such an effect. If noone is familiar with this kind of behaviour, I'll take the question to the nLite forum. But I just refuse to believe that this hasn't happened to others as well.

    So please report if you know or suspect anything! Of course, I'd be happy to give any information required. This is really baking my noodle, so I'll be very happy for any help.

    Help deleting luna theme folder (0kb)

    In my experience deleting Luna is a no go even if you turn off file protection. I tried it and ended up with bluescreen. Definitively not worth it since there is no problem in just keeping the folder where it is.

    If you want to get rid of it, you should do it before you install windows, e.g. in nLite.

    The SP3 versions has leaked on the net and are not difficult to get a hold on. I've tried slipstreaming both 3180 and 3206 (?) in the same spirit as you, wanting to have the latest and best. My experience is, well, I haven't seen any definitive improvement, but on the other hand, there has been nothing negative that I could pinpoint directly to SP3. Windows _feels_ a little more responsive and faster, but this may just be because I want it to. ;)

    Right now I am trying an "oldschool" nlited XP with sp2 plus latest fixes, to try and exclude SP3 as culprit for a few issues. If I find anything, I'll let you know.

    I have never before had any errors in nlite, but here's an error report. I get it while trying to remove any of the visual themes from the list in desktop themes tab. The template was originally made on nlite rc2, I think. I am able to remove the themes, although the obviously nonfatal error comes up every time.

    Installshield 3 installer

    Hi, guys.

    I'm trying to make a silent install of the brilliant Master of Orion II. It is quite old, so it uses installshield 3 (3.0.104.0, to be precise). But what handles works for installshield 3? Do I make an iss file? /r, /R, -r and -R doesn't seem to work. Google seems to deliver everything else than what I need, and this forum mentions it once, in a thread consisting only of this same question and no answers.

    USSF says this: "The program you selected is a valid PE file but PEiD doesn't recognize it as a valid PE file."

    Any clues, pointers or answers, anyone?

    zorphnog: Thanks for your suggestion, but I seriously doubt that. Until recently I had the install files copied to the hd, but rearranged it to save time when the total file size passed 700 MB. And as previously mentioned, they all install correctly.

    Gray: That's interesting. Though I'm not integrating IE7, there's a couple of other possible culprits, i guess:

    -directx 9c (august)

    -.net 1.1

    -.net 2.0

    -The beta version of SP3 (3180) is slipstreamed into the mix. Lots of candidates in there, I guess.

    I'm not sure where you got that picture from, but RunOnceEx does not have a GUI associated with it. I believe that picture is of a modified version of WPI (Windows Post-Installer). Check out their forum http://www.msfn.org/board/Windows_Post_Ins...rd_WPI_f93.html.

    No, no. No WPI. And it is no traditional GUI, it is only a non-affectable list with an arrow pointing at the program being installed at the moment.

    The image is linked from the RunOnceEx page in the excellent MSFN guide, Unattended Windows. Forgot to mention, when I run the RunOnceEx.cmd file, the list shows up as it should be right after next boot. It just wont do it during windows install.

    You know the awfully pro-looking list over programs to be installed at RunOnceEx, like this link:

    ...I just can't get it to show in my installation. The (about 30) programs installs all right, but it all happens with some blueish background just before the desktop loads, and with nothing on the screen but the bg (and some scattered cmd windows from the installs). Why is this? I want my RunOnceEx list!!

    Ah. This sheds new light over the issue. I had actually given it up because it didn't seem worth the time used. I found the tweak under (from here, but didn't follow that lead further. However, someone else might find it interesting.
