  1. Fantastic! Thank you, I am very grateful for this! That was very fast as well
  2. I was hoping someone could help me out and upload a copy of wsname.exe. I have version 2.8 but I really need 2.84 at least. It appears the authors website has been down for some time http://mystuff.clarke.co.nz/MyStuff
  3. Does anyone know of a quicker way of stripping the junk out of drivers? Take a Realtek sound driver. It has the sys and inf files but also a bunch of exe's and dll's which install some stupid application automatically that sits in the system tray and serves no function other that eating up system resources. I'm a "less is more" type of person, I hate bloat. At the moment I am manually going through every driver by deleting exe and unnecessary dll files and removing references to them in the inf. This is the same for Intel gfx drivers - why do I want hot key commands to change my graphics settings?! Do people really want to change their screen resolution that often?! I don't want to have to go through this process each time a new driver is released.. and I have quite a few drivers to look after! I doubt there is a less tedious way to do this but I thought this would be the best place to ask.
  4. Superb guide Kurt! Everything is spot on. I just created a fully updated Win2k SP5 install CD and it works perfectly, 1 touch install I am very grateful for you keeping this guide up to date with the latest patches.
  5. This might be useful for Fujitsu Siemens hardware. I was trying to pre-activate a Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook E Series. The 10045CFA oembios file set (which is for "FUJITSU SIEMENS") did not work. I checked the DMI strings and this is what I got: Manufacturer: FUJITSU SIEMENS Motherboard: FUJITSU Chassis: FUJITSU SIEMENS I ran OEMSCAN but it reports it as a TOSHIBA for some reason. Needless to say the Toshiba oembios files didn't work either. Finally I thought I'd try the D2D64C41 oembios file set (this is for "FUJITSU") and this worked! Not sure why the 10045CFA set didn't work. Maybe because it's an older laptop (PIII 700) it needed older files. Anyway, hopefully someone will find this useful.
  6. WARNING: when you go to www.oembios.net a Trojan tries to install itself onto your PC.
  7. Problem solved. I went to www.oembios.net and downloaded the OEMBIOS files for my HP machine. Copied them into the respective folders and now it says it's activated. They are different to the ones that came on my restore CD - very strange. Whoever created that OEMBIOS dump, thank you!
  8. First of all let me say what a fantastic forum this is. The amount of information on here is incredible. edited slightly I have an HP machine with the original restore CD. I wanted to do a re-install of XP but I thought I'd slipstream it first. I copied the restore CD contents to my hard drive, opened up oobe.ini and pasted the CD key to a notepad file. I grabbed RyanVM's latest update pack and fired up nLite . I made a few small tweaks and filled in all the data needed to make it unattended and pasted the key from oobe.ini. So far so good, burned the ISO and started the install. I have double checked the key and the winnt.sif that nLite created and it matches the original, but for some reason it's saying I have to activate Windows and that my key was typed in wrong. I don't understand - I am using the original CD with the original OEM pre-activated key (with a few updates) on the original machine! Am I missing something?
