    DP Finisher starts to late

    I'm building a CD and I want to integrate network installed apps thru a batch file. The batch file runs fine but half way thru my Driver Packs Finisher starts and installs Network and Mass Storage drivers. If I'm working on a PC where I need to install network drivers before installing apps from the network I'd be screwed. Can I change the order that they're installed?

    You can run the DP Finisher from your current batch file to avoid the late start.

    First edit your winnt.sif file and remove

    [GuiRunOnce]

    "%SystemDrive%\DPsFnshr.exe"

    Now edit and add to your current batch file

    START /WAIT %SystemDrive%\DPsFnshr.exe

    this way your apps will install first, and then DP Finisher will start after your apps installation..

    Hive registry with Vlite

    Hi

    am trying to hive one particular section of the registry. I successfully hived "HKLM" by running

    "reg load HKLM\temphive c:\x86\mounted\windows\system32\config\software", BUT cant seem to hive the HKLM\SYSTEM, it says access denied.

    I know vlite can be used with some switches to perform certain tasks, i was just wondering if theres any switches in vlite that i can use to hive the HKLM\SYSTEM in registry, or any other ways of hiving the HKLM\SYSTEM registry.

    btw "HKLM\system" belongs in HKLM key, but when i hive it, i cant see the "system" key name..

    btw, what silent switch did you use to make this add-on? i tried making this add-on, with couple of silent switches (used USSF to find silent switch) but it says" silent switch cannot be used" by the installer.

    It's InnoSetup. The switch is: /sp- /verysilent /norestart

    Could someone make an separate installer for the files needed from WAIK for Vlite instead of us downloading 1.3G....

    Simple stuffs, just install vlite 1.1.6, and then install the new version over the old one.

    Hello, yes i can understand that your new to these coding etc...

    Just go to this site, its very simple and easy to understand, and the best thing of all, the guide covers almost all of your questions, with step by step guide screenshots.

    From here you can easily understand and learn some very basic stuffs, which will give you an idea of how things work.

    Basically it has all the info you need with very simple understanding guides.

    Just take your time to read, and dont rush as its quite a long guide...

    How do you integrate updates? I though that you just inserted the .exe file into nlite add-ons page, but once I get to the windows log on screen where it normal asks you for SN and other info, it restarts saying that there is not enough virtual memory. I upped my virtual memory to 4gb, so that cant be the problem. What am I doing wrong? I can integrate all of the program add-ons. So do I need to get the windows add-ons into .cab fomat?

    Office slipstreaming

    (here you will find info on how to slipstream office 2003 to your xp cd)

    Slipstream sp3 first, and then slipstream hotfixes and addons, and finally drivers.

    Make sure you slipstream sp3 on a clean xp iso

    Do no integrate addons before sp3

    Thats the way it should be done

    Use nlite to apply your tweaks and unattended info etc...

    Is it possible to integrate programs to install on their own once windows is done installing?

    Specific programs include, but are not limited to:

    various media readers(adobe, ac3, divx, scorch, quicktime, shockwave, flash player, java, real, viewpoint) ,wrar, office 2003 (i have seen mention that this is possible, but could not figure out how), firefox, audacity, ccleaner, yahoo Norton antivirus, nero

    If you have a link to a guide that would be great if the process is more in depth than just sticking the .exe file into nlite somewhere.

    What I miss in vLite

    What a nonsense. Who knows, maybe you mess something up in Vista Sp1 config. Be sure to keep Superfetch, it helps on apps startups.

    I did remove Superfetch as well, i guess thats the reason why vista was slower compare to server. Looks like i have to vlite again and this time keep superfetch and compare it with server 2008 to see if the performance is still the same.

    I think this is psychological!! Once you have custom vista, it runs faster than server 2008

    My programs run and loads faster compare to vista. The only thing i had to do manually is enable superfetch and cpu priority for programs to get the true server performance. Not only that i play lots of latest games, and it surprised me, it loads games faster and more importantly it gives more FPS. That just sums it up, that server is much faster. btw i do have all the bells and whistles enabled as well, and still its fast.

    I would really like to see more tweaks and more server 2008 support on next version of vlite.

    EDIT: even after using vlite and tweaking vista, my games and apps still does not run or load faster compare to server 2008

    Where has it been proven that 2008 is better than Vista? They are the EXACT same **** thing. 2008 just has lots less sh*t. Try running winver you'll see the are the same kernal version and everything.

    It has not been proven, but vast majority of people who used server 2008, never looked back to vista. Yes they use the same kernal and everything, and yes server 2008 is not bloated like vista, BUT server is highly tuned for reliability and speed. Even when i did a vlite of vista and removed most of the stuffs, server 2008 always performed faster with all the bells and whistles on, eg desktop experience Compare to vista. Its not only me saying this, but many people end results were, server is faster than vista, no matter how much you vlite vista and tweak.

    Help needed

    I modified the waik installer for my personal use and removed all x64 stuff, I also made it so it can be installed unattendedly and made a 7zip SFX, but its 235 MB & I don't have the bandwidth to share... So I went ahead and removed some more stuff, I hope I did not remove too much so it breaks imagex

Ofcourse am happy with the speed and reliability (its great), i thought i might as well disable some unneeded services, end of the day i have a powerful spec pc, so it does not really matter, but just for my convenience i thought disable some unneeded services

    I can see that you do have great experience with server 2008. Can you please help me with some services please..

    I use Server 2008 Enterprise x64 as Workstation ONLY, i dont need any server services, but i really dont know which services to disable while having my workstation and surfing and remote desktop as well.

    Could you please tell me which services i can safely disable and have my remote desktop, surfing, and workstation stuffs (desktop experience)
