  1. Clint,

"But hey, I'm old (42) and prolly out of fasion. "

Let's see; counting backwards, carry the 3... Looks like you're a child of the 80's. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't even the straight guys wear as much make-up as the girls back then? If your fashion sense was developed about that time, I'd think you'd be used to the "I am what I am" concept. ;)

    ArcticRider,

"Wow you bake cookies, motorcycle and use nlite! Can you vaccum also? "

No, but I can sure mop the floor with you.

Arctic, babe: You're making this too easy. You gotta stop handing me the straight lines, I'm killin' you here. ;)

    Empire,

    "wow this thread is bonkers

    What's nLite? "

It's you guys getting nLite(ened) by a paintballing feminine biker chick who bakes (and sews). :w00t:

  2. Clint,

"This thread is quite embarrassing for me as an male/human. Starting with a post from Debbie using words as first time and virgin as a lure for all you suckers (and then jumping on ArcticRider when he is only following the initiated path)... pffft, suckers. "

You should have put a "blushing" emoticon :blushing: after your "embarrassing" line; it would draw more attention to it. You see, Clint, that's how advertizing works: You add a zing to an otherwise ordinary thing. Kind of like what I did with my original post.

I needed help with my computer, and with 9,000 nLite topics to choose from, I wanted to make sure that people saw mine.

I even apologized in my original post for using the provocative language, and explained that it was for the zing factor.

And while it may embarrass you as a man/human that all these "suckers" fell for the topic, YOU took the time to read through it as well. See how well advertizing works? :thumbup

As for ArcticRider, I think that his comments were funny and in the spirit of the game. I responded to them in that vain. Others thought he was out of line, but I was perfectly OK with it.

    Clint,

    "...not fun at all.

The talk about 'resale value' for a gift and choosing the diamonds really puts me off..."

Well, Clint, I got a huge pile of steaming cow pies for you. It's a gift. You must cherish it always, because it's a gift. Hopefully this illustrates the valuable lesson: Not all things are worth the same to all people.

When I give a gift, it's to bestow upon someone something that they want, not something I want for them, because they may not value it as I do. If it's something they want, I know they'll value it.

In the Diamonds vs. Big Screen, choice, I don't really want either. I want a Monster Dark. If stuck with either the diamonds or big screen, I suppose I'd take the TV: At least it has some utility value.

As for putting you off, I guess you'd better find a girl (or guy, depending on your preference) who has exactly the same taste in things as you, lest you be disapointed with their disapointment.

"Stay on the bike girl, or do the 'girliething'...but act accordingly.

Thread initiated with words like 'virgin' 'first time'..coupled with 'biker chick aspirations' and 'resale value' for gifts....sign of the times I guess, but very embarrassing none the less."

Because I can't be feminine and ride a motorcycle? Perhaps you should step into the modern era, Clint: These days, both women and men get to be what they want. You and I can both be feminine bikers, or macho construction workers, or manly accountants, or prissy chefs. Pretty much, the rules are ours to make up. Join me here: It's a good place to be.

And a heck of a lot better than "act accordingly". :thumbup

  3. Martin L,

"@ Debby: We have an edit button to edit your posts, its much better than always posting a new reply. Try to avoid to post a new reply every time you have something new, just edit your previous post. (I merged your posts)."

I apologize; I didn't realize it was a problem. As for ArcticRider, don't worry about him: I poisoned his cookies. :sneaky:

    Pistolero,

"Question: You have a choice of getting ONE gift, either a very expensive piece of jewelery (diamonds, of course), or a equivalently expensive huge-screen HDTV set. What would you choose?"

Duh! The diamonds, of course. They'll have a higher resale value, so I could buy a Ducati 600 Monster Dark (w/ a seat lowering kit, because I'm inseam challenged). :thumbup I had a Moto Guzzi V65 SP, but with the fairing and all, it was just too heavy. Sold that about 2 years ago.

If there's any money left over, I might look into paintball again. I haven't played in several years because I've got an older pump gun, and I can't compete against the hosers with their $2,000, 15 round-per-second, electric trigger guns.

Did you ask because you're thinking of getting me something? :blushing::lol:

  4. Yay Us!! :thumbup

I followed bledd's advice meticulously, plus included the MSI drivers direct from their site, and it worked!

    I'm FAT, 32, and happy! :w00t:

Wait, that's not right: I'm NTFS, and happy!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to advise me on this, and especially bledd, for the winning combination.

I'll start getting some work done, and check back in a week to see about removing some of the dead weight (wait a minute, I already got rid of him).

    Hugs to all!

    Debby :angel

  5. Kel,

"Now that was really sexist and kinda uncalled for."

Not to worry; It's all in good fun, and I've put up with much worse playing paintball. :thumbup

    ArcticRider,

"I dpn't know what to tell you. If you were my woman, I'd tell you to use the oven and make me some cookies! much easier then the computer. "

If I were your woman, I'd poison the cookies, bury your carcass in the garden, raise some vegetables (something smarter than you), and find a real man.

    Kel,

"@ Debbie I am really sorry iso recorder did not work for you. I have never ran into a drive it wasn't compatable with."

I'm using an HP laptop w/ an external USB burner, xp tablet pc edition 2005, ver. 2002, sp2. It is the quicker of the two laptops, but my old Dell has a built-in burner, if that would make a difference.

    bledd,

"just follow my past two posts, really easy and straight forward steps "

I did just that: I downloaded the RAID stuff, created the nLite file, downloaded SP2, pointed at it...

Did you supply these in the wrong order, in that I should have done the the SP2 stuff first?

Also, in your second post, you write: "select "Service Pack integration", and Create ISO, " and then 2 lines later you write: "don't create iso yet, leave nlite open for a bit".

What's a girl to think?

    Debby

Here's a thought: Since I know I can get access to the RAID HDs (via starting up with an ATA with XP on it and clicking "My Computer"), can I place (somehow) XP directly in them by copying from the nLite CD?

When I last tried to access them using the nLite disc as an OS, everything looked normal, but the only choice I had for the install destination was C: (that's the ATA, while the Mirror set-up is F:).

For example, since I can take the contents of the OS disc, plus other drivers and who knows what else, and create an unattended install disc (on a whole other computer) that will understand to put all that stuff onto the F: drives (in theory, anyway), is there a way to take the same info and place it straight onto the F: discs from the C: drive on the same machine? Perhaps copy the disc contents onto F:, disconnect C: and have it find it's own way?

    Or am I dreaming? :}

    Thanks,

    Debby

  6. Ok guys, I'm back.

In re-reading all the posts, it looks like there are several ways to do this, thus making it more confusing.

So, as a woman (you know, with all the power), I'm going to make an executive decision: Since Kel answered first, I'll follow his directions. If that burns a coaster/cat toy, then I'll work my way through the list until someone can perform satisfactorily. ;)

Once I have an OS on the SATAs, then we can go back through and you guys can teach me how to streamline the system and all that other cool stuff.

    Fair enough? :D

    Debby

    Hey guys, I'm back.

I tried Kel's solution, only to find that the recording software ( ISORecorder) won't recognize my burner (the recorder field is blank).

LeveL mentioned something about slipstreaming and bashing rats, which isn't clear to me exactly where the stuff goes, and when.

bledd linked to RAID Slipstreamer; I'll try that now.

    Hooray!! I'm batting 1000!! (Well, 1000 views anyway). :thumbup:w00t:

    Now if only I could get nLite to work. :}

SP2 has finished it's download, so I can continue with the burn.

    Wish me luck!

No, more than last time! ;)

OK, XP tried to load like the source disc does, and looked exactly the same, including the part where it asks if I have drivers for the RAID setup. I let it run, since I don't have a Floppy, and at the end it said it couldn't find any HDs to load onto.

Better, but still no SATA drivers.

    Suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Debby

  7. Hey guys,

Thank you for all the replies.

I'm at work now , but I'll try another burn when I get home.

And not to sound ungrateful, but this is a ton of information, and, um, I was kind of hoping that there would be a consensus on how to go about it.

I'll try to sign in earlier, so we can get some action, er, get this working, tonight. :blushing:

    Kel:

Upgrading to SP2 is the plan, I just wanted to be clear about the baseline.

    ArcticRider:

"Wow! A female using nlite. Is that even possible?? Where are the system requirements? "

My requirements are far more than your system can handle.:P

  8. Here's what I did to make the CD:

In the step to add drivers, added the .inf file from the 3112.exe that Kel supplied (Thanks Kel!).

Then just added my product key in the unattended install step.

My only tweak was to set automatic updates to prompt first.

Followed the directions to create the ISO.

Burned the CD as a bootable CD using Roxio.

    Some updates:

My XP is Pro SP1 (not 2 as previously mentioned).

The friend from work who checked out my Floppy Drive started the machine with XP loaded onto an ATA drive that I had been limping along with, and (I think) formatted the 2 SATA drives, in an attempt to make them see-able (if that's a word....well, it is now) by the computer. He then tried to load the XP disc directly onto the mirrored pair, but the computer said that the XP disc was an older version of XP (probably meaning no online updates), and it wouldn't let him interact with it.

Hopefully none of this killed my chances of using nLite...

  9. Hey guys,

OK, I finally put the disc in and fired up the computer.

What I'm seeing is a blank screen with a flashing line in the upper left corner (I'll describe it as "DOS" style, for lack of a better word).

Is this OK, or should I be seeing something else?

    Thanks,

    Debby

  10. Hey guys,

Sorry to post so late; I got hung up at work. <_<

I'm gonna get a bite, feed the kitty, then download the .exe and create a new disc. :thumbup

Give me about an hour and I'll let you know how it's going. And I'll respond to all your posts.

    Thanks again,

    Debby

    -I-,

"btw i did notice that you first Read the G#$#$ manual before asking..."

I am a proper lady, and as such, I have no idea what G#$#$ means (nor do I care to). :angel

And while you claim to have a girlfriend, I notice that you're up at 2:43 in the morning. Perhaps she was offended by G#$#$ also.

    :P

    DL,

"Good one debby. But my guess is that 99% of the guys here don't know Dallas."

I've been hearing about Dallas since I was little, but I've never seen it. Perhaps you could describe it for us?

    To all,

I'm creating the install disc on the other laptop as I type this (I did mention I'm an Octopus, didn't I?), and should know soon if it works.

  11. The SATA drivers were downloaded from MSI's website. The numbers (more or less) matched what is written on the floppy that came with the board, but who knows if it is wrong/bad.

I'm making cookies right now, :w00t: and can't do the download for another 1.5 hours or so (6 dozen cookies takes time, after all).

Thank you so much for your help!!

I'll let you know when I've got them.

    Debby

  12. Hey guys, new girl here. :hello:

Sorry for the suggestive topic, but it did get you read my post.

My name is Debby, and I have a problem.

My ex-boyfriend built me a computer, and the hard drive died.

I decided to move up to SATA drives and mirror them with RAID, so I bought a pair of Maxtor 250s.

The problem is that I need to install the SATA drivers and the Promise RAID drivers through the Floppy Drive for the computer to recognize the SATA drives, but the Floppy seems to be broken at the Motherboard (I had a friend from work check it with a new cable and drive, still didn’t work). The ex never installed the drivers, since it never used SATA before.

So, since nLite doesn’t need the Floppy, I figured I would just download and burn all the drivers onto a disc and boot from the DVD drive. :thumbup

    Didn’t work. :thumbdown

I followed the instructions from the beginners guide sticky, but all I get is a flashing cursor. I’ve looked at the disc on my laptop, and it has information on it, so I don’t know what I did wrong.

    Please help!!

    Computer Specs:

    MSI K8T Neo – FIS2R

    AMD Socket 754 Athlon64 3200+

    ATI 9800 All in Wonder

    Windows XP SP2

Please let me know if you need any more information.

    Thanks,

    Debby
