  1. Just an FYI, no solution to your inquiry. I slipstreamed the 'exe', which is less than one MB. I did not slipstream the 26 skins I have, 1.7 MB total, which I have set to 'random', just added them later. Granted it takes maybe five minutes to do it this way, but it works fine for me. I also get rid of the welcome screen, afterwords. I guess it would be nice to be able to slipstream these also and save that time. Good luck, Eddie
  2. OK, Thanks John. I had followed the guidelines on how to uninstall previous versions, but I understand what your saying. Thanks again for the 'addon' Eddie http://www.safer-networking.org/en/howto/uninstall.html
  3. Thanks, John However, I received the following message: Error C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts The existing file is marked as read-only. Click Retry to remove the read-only attribute and try again, Ignore to skip this file, or Abort to cancel installation.
  4. Way to complicated for me to make an add on. Seems its set to "download updates immediately" and, by default, the "use system settings protection (Tea Timer)" is set, which I don't want. Althought I do want the "use Internet Explorer protection (SD Helper)" setting. Thanks in advance, Eddie http://www.filehippo.com/download_spybot_search_destroy/ Found the following for a silent installer, which did work using the nlite addon maker, but again, it installs with "Tea Timer", which I don't want: /verysilent /SP- /components=main,skins

    Sp3 'beta' ?

I decided I was going to try and make a silent installer for dotnet 2.0. And if successful, then try and learn how to package it with the three hot fixes that go with it. I had recently made an nlited CD that included the sp3 beta and that’s what I have installed on my computer. A little background, when I installed my ‘new’ CD and then went to ‘update’ site, I required nothing more than July’s malicious software removal tool. Great. Last Tuesday came, and no updates seemed to be required for my computer, except for the August malicious software removal tool. Hmmm, but still “Great”. Belarc Advisor confirmed everything was ok. I made my silent installer for dotnet 2.0 and installed same. Ran a program that required it, and everything worked as it should have. Went to ‘updates’ to confirm that I still needed those three hot fixes. Updates site said I didn’t need anything. Belarc Advisor v7.2t, using 8-14-07 criteria, confirmed that dotnet 2.0 was installed and no ‘missing’ updates. Ran Microsoft Baseline Security Advisor, it confirmed that no updates were needed. Hmmm. I wonder, should I be concerned. Is this what it means when you run a ’BETA’? I have been running my ‘anti’ stuff on a daily bases with nothing found. Although I usually don’t go anywhere where I might pick up anything. Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions, Eddie
  6. I was reprimanded by another forum, for posting the link for Paragon that was posted in this discussion. I was told it was "pirate" software and that they didn't allow such behavior. Which, I might add, I fully agree with. Still I didn't appreciate getting that reprimanded. I don't know, which I told them, how a person is supposed to know these things. The review and link seemed legit to me. Even the mcAfee site advisor said it was an 'ok/green' site. Eddie
  7. Evidently I wasn't clear enough. Yes I can 'auto' install. However, I wanted to be able to have a "Program Addon" to be able to slipstream into my next nlited CD. In addition, the various installers that I saw for both the Flash Player and the Shockwave Player seemed to include the 'Google Toolbar', and as previously mentioned I don't know how to take that out. Thus my request. I can, and have made, a 'program add on', using the 'cmenu to "I.D" the silent installers and using the nlite add on maker to make my cab, but it has that 'Google Toolbar'. And for what ever reason, I couldn't make the "Shark007" one work. Thus my request. Thank you for responding, Eddie
  8. Tried to make one without success. http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/do...=ShockwaveFlash Thanks in advance, Eddie Well, it seems I didn't search enough. I just realized that the Adobe Flash Player is included in the Shockwave Player. And that John Doe made one last November. Any chance of getting the Shockwave player updated to version 10.2.0.22 Thanks in advance, Eddie http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?
  9. Guess it was not meant to be. After installing 'only' Foobar, I kept running into 'issues'. Yes Foobar works, but then I needed the 'runtime' thingy, and then to play some online video's I needed to either install the media lite or windows media, etc. What was the point. I made a new 'CD', with wmp11 and everything works fine. Just an FYI, I ran into the same issue with a pdf reader. Everyone said you didn't need Adobe Reader, to just use "Foxit" something. I uninstalled Adobe and used "Fox", then came tax time. I could not print out the reports, it would only work with Adobe. When things are geared to the big boys, yes you can make it work without them, but what's the point. Why go through all these gyrations to just avoid something that we all know works. Especially when its free anyway. Anyway, thanks for everyones input. Eddie
  10. Thanks Per your suggestion, I checked the site again and it had been updated. BTW, the previous listing did not have the "mis", only the 'exe' for IE & firefox and it did 'state' it was the 9.0.47.0, but on download it wasn't. Anyway, I got it, made my cab, verified the installation, and am ready to make my new CD. Thanks again, Anoymous_Person & of course "Shark007" Eddie
  11. I'm planning on making a new nlite CD and since I basically only listen to "my music", I was wondering if it was necessary to install 'any' Windows Media Player. Just going with Foobar. While surfing, will I start running into 'issues' when I want to see a 'video' from YouTube or whatever. when I make my new CD, can I basically 'not' install any windows media component and just slipstream "Foobar". thanks for any guidance, Eddie
  12. Tried doing a Google search & looking at Adobe site, but just couldn't find stand alone "installer" so that I could make my owe 'add-on' for nlite. But if someone already has one made, or can point me in the right direction, I don't have the need to reinvent the wheel. "Sharks" says its 9.0.47.0, but it isn't. Maybe just a simple error. Thanks in advance, Eddie
  13. Thanks for your reply, Rick I will proceed with making a new CD with all my updates. Just an FYI, in the past, when I have slipstreamed, and visited windows updates, there were usually only three or four that I had to do, one of course is the usual MRT tool thingy and one was a 'modem' update. Since I couldn't find anything on the KB or how to download in advance, anyway, I will just ignore this issue for the time being. I do, by the way, always use a virtual pc before I burn a new CD. And, I might add, this particular time, since I wanted to ensure things were somewhat pristine, I used my "original" xp pro CD & the "original" sp2 CD when I did my little test. Thanks again, Eddie
  14. Since I seemed to have some minor problems with my most recent nlited CD, and since I was concerned that I didn’t have all the necessary windows updates slipstreamed on that CD, I created a ‘new’ nlite CD without any windows updates. Afterwards, I went to windows updates, downloaded and installed, and indeed I was missing some, so now I have revised my list and am ready to burn a new CD. However, there seems to be something kind of odd occurring with one KB. The issue is in regards to KB926239, Windows Media Player 10 may close unexpectedly on a Windows XP-based computer, released Feb 08, 2007. A little background info, I do have the “add on” for windows media player 11 on this CD. When I go to control panel/add & remove, this KB is listed, when I ran Belarc Advisor, its listed as being installed at the same time as all the others. However, and this is the strange part, when I go to windows update site, on the ‘review’, it is ‘not’ listed. When I went to the registry, all my ‘other’ hot fixes state ‘installed by Administrator’, this KB states ‘installed by “System”. Huh? So how did I get it? But more to the point, do I need to add this KB to my list? On a related note, I looked at “Ryan’s”: http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/updatepack.html , but frankly I’m confused why people suggest to use it instead. Reason is, I briefly looked at the list, and stopped when I was up to “13” hot fixes that weren’t listed, that my computer needs, AND, there were a lot that were listed that my system says it doesn‘t need! That list was only 46.5MB’s, whereas my list is up to 90MB’s. That list ‘also’ doesn’t list this KB926239, by the way. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or guidance, Eddie Sorry for the long post.
  15. Sorry, I'm a 'newbie'. Didn't mean to offen. But the cab's are already made by some people on that forum. I switch back and forth between these two to get what I want all the time. Sorry, won't try and assist again, No need to post back. Eddie
  16. have you ever checked here:http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=132 Good luck, Eddie
  17. I used the 1.3.5 version, however, I didn’t get any popup’s from just running the installation, since it “did“ have the ‘sfc‘ thingy disabled. I only got the popup’s when running the ‘sfc /scannow’. Still 26 seems a lot. Most seemed to be related to “Korean” language stuff. Some were “IME” exe’s, which seem to be not needed. Hmmm. I didn’t try the DVD until after going to windows update. The particular DVD that I tried first, was the one that I had my music on, and it had a lower priority for downloading / installing, after a reformat. Thanks for your input, Eddie
  18. Thanks for lending a hand, ElTorqiro SFC stated there were a total of 26 missing files. While I basically think that this is not related to my DVD problem, I should note that when I visited the windows update site, it added some very old 'critical updates', which was a surprise since I monitor this area carefully. There were a total of '5' updates in the "KB87....KB88" range. I previously didn't have any updates in that range. To clarify, I didn't like the way the computer was acting and since I thought there might be something wrong with the burner, I decided to reformat with an nlited unattended CD that only had my windows xp pro & sp2 slipstreamed. So there were 'no' components removed or adjusted etc. This is the backup I use to begin any nlited Cd's that I would later slipstream the hot fixes & programs, etc. Maybe I just answered my own question about the nlite process & the DVD. Still there are those 26 missing files! Suggestions, Eddie
  19. Just wondering. My DVD burner quick working. That is to say, I can read and write to CD’s & CD-RW’s with my DVD burner. However, I can’t view a data (my music files) DVD & I can’t play a store bought DVD. Yes I have “WIN DVD” installed to be able to view a movie. I understand that the ‘driver’ stuff for the DVD comes from the windows xp operating system. Since, every time I made a unattended nlite CD, with the “sfc” windows file protection disabled, will I’m just trying to fix my DVD burner. When I ran the sfc /scannow, it of course, came up needing a bunch of files, which I can understand since what we’re doing, cutting out programs and stuff. Question: Should I try and find all the missing stuff, some ‘dll’s, exe’s, lex, ime and reinstall same? Obviously, could simply be that it was its time and I need to buy a new burner. Just looking for options. Thanks for any suggestions, Eddie
  20. I posted this on the ‘custom’ forum: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=42 but never received any comments, so I though I would post here. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, Eddie Same message follows: First a little clarification. I installed a new program called ‘Boot Skins’. With it I was able to ‘automatically’ vary the start up ‘screens’, getting rid of the XP screen. It worked great. I also got rid of my ‘welcome’ & my ‘Dell’ screens on boot up. I now have 18 different screens that randomly start on initial boot. Now for my question. I downloaded and installed some new ‘sounds’ for the windows startup and shutdown sequence. There great. I was wondering, is there some program or something I can change that will allow for ‘random’ selection of ‘startup & shutdown’ sounds. Just to be clear, I'm a newbie, so hopefully nothing to complicated. Thanks in advance for any guidance, Eddie
  21. Thanks John Doe Your "addon's" 'always' work. I appreciate it. And for sure others will not only want but need this addon. Actually, I've been wanting an addon for Zone Alarm for quite some time. But never could figure out this stuff. I kept seeing stuff about having to do things in registry, etc. and that scared me. I saw the one that was for "Home" edition, and well I had windows xp pro, and anyway that was an old one. But lately, I've been getting a little better at this stuff. Thanks again, Eddie
  22. For windows xp pro, etc. -- version 7.0.337.000 http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/cat...=US〈=en Thanks in advance, Eddie Edit: After searching forums, found: /s /noreboot worked. used nlite addon maker to make cab.
  23. Thanks, Rictendo64 Didn't work "exactly" as you directed me to do, I received an "internal error" using the universal extractor, "BUT", as per your guidelines, I was able to get the 'identifier', using Cmenu, from this "WISOE60B...etc.", and then used the nlite addon maker to make my 'cab'. I uninstalled my original installation, used IZArc to extract the 'exe' from the 'svcpack', double clicked, and it installed 'silently'. Thanks again, Eddie PS: the silent installer for this "WISOE60B...msi" thingly was /qn PPS: Request filled
  24. New release, web site: http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php Tried the CMenu & universal extractor, but no help. Thanks in advance, Eddie Thanks everyone.
