  1. Thanks for replying, Nuhi. When I first did the slipstreaming thing, I did a Google search on how to do it. The first one that popped up was this site: http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windo..._slipstream.asp In step 2 it states “Get XP SP2 and extract it”. It’s the one that says to use the “XPSP2.EXE” from your sp2 CD, which I had. By the way, on review, I notice when you load the sp2 CD, its label is: VRMSP_EN, total size 475MB, within are such things as, that we now know we can safely remove, Dotnet, Support, ValueAdd, etc., and of course, it contains the “xpsp2.exe“, coming in at 266MB’s. When I first found and started using “your” nlite program, great program by the way, I continued to “only” use this same xpsp2.exe from my sp2 disk, and it worked great. Thus my inquiry about the possible use of a smaller portion of this new sp3. As previously stated, my thinking was that if you are slipstreaming a smaller ’exe’ than that part of the process will be just a little bit faster. Usually, when I make a new DVD, I like to start with a fresh copy of everything, as I have noticed here before that sometimes things don’t go well if you put modifications on top of other modifications. That said, the xpsp2.exe is 266MB’s. On the current version of sp3, when extracted, there isn’t any ‘single’ exe approaching that size. Therefore, I have to assume that you just can’t pick and choose as you stated. At least not ‘today’. LOL. Anyway, “I’m” not smart enough to do that ‘sort of thing’. I leave that to all the pro’s on this forum. I’m still trying to figure out how to install Zone Alarm Free, silently and unattended. LOL. Thanks again for replying, and thanks again for the great program, Eddie
  2. Just wondering. When I first started using nlite, it was mentioned that you only needed to use “xpsp2.exe” from Service Pack 2 in the slipstreaming process. The latest build for sp3, 3300, is some 315MB’s. I have successfully integrated this without any problems whatsoever. But, like sp2 before it, is there a smaller “part” that I should or could use. I did extract it, but there are a “lot” of ‘.exe’s’. Maybe, the answer won’t come until the ‘final’ release. By the way I slipstreamed into a windows xp pro with sp1 included. Since I'm using DVD's now, its not so much reducing size as maybe speeding up the process a little. Of course I would rather be safe than sorry, if you know what I mean. Just wondering, Thanks for any suggestions, Eddie
  3. Tweaks: General tab : Visual Effects - Use drop shadows for Icon Labels on desktop / Enable For now: My Computer/Properties/Advanced tab/Performance/Settings/Visual Effects - check mark on "Use drop shadows for Icon Labels on desktop" Good luck
  4. Just an FYI, there's already a new build, 3282. So the short answer is, their still working on it.
  5. Thanks guys, Sooooo, DOTNETFX does nothing during the installation phase, so it can be deleted. But if I ‘wanted’ to install it I could, by clicking on the “DOTNETFX.EXE”. OK. But it may, or may not, be an old version, of 1.0 or 1.1, and in any case I would still need to go to windows updates to install any hot fixes. And since .net2.0 is backward compatible anyway, I don’t ‘really’ need .net1.1, since I only need ‘dotnet2.0’ to run the nLite program. So, as I originally stated, I have already made a .net2.0, that includes ‘only’ dotnet2.0 and its hot fixes, using the silent .net maker, so I should quite while I’m ahead. But, if I absolutely wanted to, I could use the ‘silent net maker’ and slipstream v1.1 & v2.0. And since, again, I only need it for nlite, there’s no need to pursue ‘DotNet3.0 or 3.5. But, in any event, I can, and should, delete the “DOTNETFX” folder before I slipstream the next time. Just wondering, though, what is this all about: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework, it lists v1.0.3705 & v1.1.4322 & v2.0.50727. If, ’DOTNETFX’, doesn’t do anything??? Since I did everything in one step, and therefore, ‘components’ which contained ‘netfx/i386/netfx.cab’, 12.1MB’s, could not be removed… Hmmm… Can or should I remove, the folders for v1.0.3705 & v1.1.4322 from this C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework folder??? The v1.1.4322 folder is 43.2mb’s, containing 192 files with 9 folders. Hmmm. Thanks again, Eddie
  6. When I slipstream, I usually delete this folder, Dotnetfx, from my windows xp pro ‘source’ cd. And I also put a check mark on ‘Operating System Options - Net Framework’, thinking this will ‘not’ allow installation of the ‘Net Framework’ program. Maybe this step isn’t needed since I already deleted the “DOTNETFX” folder? I also usually slipstream a ‘.net2.0’ since its needed for the nlite program, made using the ‘Silent .NET Maker from here: http://www.msfn.org/board/Silent-NET-Maker...2-2-t90779.html . Then when I go to windows updates, as an option, it will list “.net1.1” to download and install. Just to ‘not’ see this, I decided to ‘allow’, make that, keep the ‘Dotnetfx’ folder from my original CD. My thinking was that it would install '.net1.1'. Well, it appears that it doesn’t do that since when I went to windows updates it was still listed as an option to download and install. When I go to C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework, it lists v1.0.3705 & v1.1.4322 & v2.0.50727. Soooooooo, I’m hoping someone can shed some light on the subject. First off, if I just keep the ‘DOTNETFX’ folder will it install, what? V1.0? V1.1? Since I ‘need’ “.net2.0” for nlite, what do I need to do. I was under the impression that when you slipstream ‘.net2.0’, it included “v1.1.”? Yes? No? When I run a relatively new program called “Secunia PSI (RC1), it shows the programs installed, and only lists ‘.net2.0’. Belarc Advisor also only lists .net2.0. Just as an FYI, my latest DVD slipstreamed without incident. Last session ini listed just in case anyone might think its needed to help shed light on this topic. Maybe the 'DOTNETFX' only works with sp2? I am using the latest sp3 build 3282. Thanks in advance for any insight. Eddie LAST_SESSION.INI
  7. I used an 'addon' once that didn't have a uninstall feature, so what I did was install a fresh copy from the source and that allowed me to then use add and remove to uninstall the program. There is also a program called 'Windows Installer Cleanup Utility', Google it, it will usually uninstall anything that has uninstall issues. Good luck, Eddie
  8. Do you have 'dotnet2.0 installed? It's required. If you look at the 'FAQ' you can download from this area. Otherwise, maybe it was just a corrupted download and you should try and redownload a fresh copy and install. Good luck, Eddie
  9. Thanks for this posting. I downloaded, Windows Update Agent 30, used -- /wuforce /quiet /no restart --- Definitely works -- Slipstreamed into my latest DVD without issue. Wondering, can I slipsteam the MRT, which the latest issue can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en, by putting it with the rest of my "hot fixes", using nlite, or would that be a waste of time. Meaning, when I would go to windows update site afterwords, would it want to reinstall? Thanks in advance, Eddie
  10. Have a look here: http://www.msfn.org/board/Release-Adobe-Re...ite-t88167.html good luck, eddie
  11. Well, you can go here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=86450 OR, you can do what I did, I quit doing this, trying to keep up with it all, and just slipstreamed sp3, which contains everything from sp1-sp3, don't have to install sp2. There are other ways, including going to some sites that have update packs, http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/search.php?mode=results, in which case, again you don't have to keep up with each individual one. Your choice, Eddie
  12. I used the nlite addon maker to make a cab for this program, /sp- /very silent -- http://www.webshots.com/samplers/ But after the installation I have to open the program and "point" it to the 'Webshots Data' folder that I have reinstalled to the My Documents folder. Is there a way to include these pictures (webshots data folder) into this addon or make a different type of addon. I searched the forum and found something from 2003 but surely there's something newer. I saw one by Shark from last year, but frankly didn't understand how to use it. I use the free version of Webshots. Thanks in advance for any guidance, Eddie
  13. Not really as the scripts will remain on your hard disk, which is not required and they will only take up space, which most people want to avoid who use nLite as they want the smallest installation possible. What exactly do you mean by this statement. What I'm asking, I decided to do it this way, my 'tweaks.reg' was only 2.57KB's. The process was easy and it worked. I did find it afterwords on my C:\Install and then I just deleted it, as it was no longer needed. But the steps did work, easily. Thanks for my further education. Eddie
  14. Problem resolved. Seems it was a 'Microsoft' issue after all. Have a look here regarding a workaround: http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6132_102-0.htm...2657673#2657673 Although, I didn't install this "KB", separately, I only assume that its somehow included in the sp3 rc1. I applied their workaround, rebooted and the issue is resolved. All the previous 'addons' I had uninstalled in the attempt to resolve my problem have been reinstalled and the computer is working as expected. Thanks to everyone for their assistance. Once again, I note that the nlite program is indeed a great program. Thanks again, Eddie
  15. Hmmmmm. Regarding my problem. Wonder if this bit of information might help to resolve my issue. I have a word document where I have saved all my favorite sites that I like to go to from time to time. It's a fairly long list. Again, their on this word document, not on my IE6 favorites list. What if I were to tell you that every single time that I clicked on one of those 'www's', on this word document, that my Internet Explorer opened perfectly, without fail. However, most times that I click on my IE6 icon or go through the start/programs/Internet Explorer, it will fail to open. What in the world could be causing this? Thanks again for any guidance, Eddie
  16. Thanks for replying, Nuhi setuperr.log is blank, no errors no nothing. Will try the other regarding no addon's in virtual box tomorrow, however, the addons were the same on both build 3205 & 3244. I did uninstall a couple of programs just to see if they would have any effect, spybot, since its a beta, and select view and 1-click answers, since their bho stuff. No difference. Sorry to ask a newbie question, but how do you tell that IE works in a virtual box pc? Thanks, Eddie
  17. Looking for a little guidance. I had installed the sp3, build 3205 using nlite and had absolutely no problems whatsoever. Since you can now get the sp3, build 3244, I made a DVD. Well, I have one ‘basic’ problem. Very often, when I click on my desktop icon for Internet Explorer, it attempts to open and then closes. Usually I have to try three or four times before I can get it to open. More often then not, once I’m in, the connection stays ok. However, I notice that when I go to use the copy and paste functions or the favorites functions, I run into other issues. This would seem to indicate that my I.E.6 must be corrupt some how. Keep in mind that all my settings, regarding what I do with nlite are the same, meaning component removal, add on’s etc. I did a Google search and I found various things to try: 1) Right click on IE icon on desktop, click Properties, go to Advanced tab, under Browsing, untick EnableThird Party Browser Extensions (requires restart), 2) Tried to run sfc /scannow, didn’t work, and I think that’s because I using nlite, 3) Ran IE Fix, 4) When to control panel/add and remove programs - add and remove components/ unticked Internet Explorer - reticked Internet Explorer, it did its thing, rebooted, same problem, 5) When to C:\Windows\inf\ right click on ie.inf and select Install, wanted “iexplore.exe”, found same on DVD\i386, 6) I downloaded an ie6setup.exe, but the computer stated I had a newer version and would not go forward, 7) I have run various ‘anti’ programs, like spybot, ad aware 2007, online scans from: A-Squared On Line Trojan Scan -- BitDefender On Line Scan -- Ewido On Line Scan -- F-Secure On Line Scan -- House Call Anti-Virus -- Kaspersky. I have Zone Alarm and AVG, all scans come up clean. I went back to sp3, build 3205, everything worked fine. Burned a new DVD-RW, using sp3, build 3244 and my problem returned. Try to open IE and sometimes does and most times doesn’t. Is there maybe something I'm removing that I should not? Thanks in advance for any suggestions, Eddie LAST_SESSION.INI
  18. Minor note, since I'm also a newbie, but, nlite doesn't remove any drivers by default, you have to tell nlite "everything" you want to delete "from" your "windows" CD. Regarding 3rd party drivers, normally they are 'not' on the windows CD. Normally they are installed afterwords from 'other' Cd's. If you use a 'trial' version of "Driver Magician" it will allow you to backup the '3rd party drivers' that "aren't" on your windows CD, but that you have installed from other sources . You can then integrate these into your nlited cd. Other backup programs, like DriverGrabber, will backup 'all' drivers on your current system, and that "might" not be what you really want. Just a suggestion. Hope this helps, Eddie
  19. A little help, please. What am I doing wrong. Latest Attempt - Saved as ZoneAlarm.cmd @ECHO OFF ECHO. ECHO Installing ZoneAlarm Free 7.0.408.000 ECHO Please wait... start /wait %systemdrive%\Install\Applications\Zone Labs\zaZA_Setup_en.exe /s /noreboot Address: $OEM$\$1\Install\Applications\Zone Labs I put the ‘exe’ & the ‘.cmd’ into this folder Also added the following to “i386: winnt.sif: [GuiRunOnce] %systemdrive%\Install\ZoneAlarm.cmd Testing with ‘Virtual Box’, on first boot I receive the following error message: C:\Install\ZoneAlarm.cmd Windows cannot find ‘C:\Install\ZoneAlarm.cmd’. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. Etc.... Thanks for any assistance, Eddie PS: Resolved, put ZoneAlarm.cmd into $1\Install folder & changed "\Zone Labs" to \ZoneLabs & put zaZA_Setup_en.exe into "\Applications\ZoneLabs" folder Thanks
  20. Thanks for replying. I've actually never used a batch file before. But I'm certainly willing to learn. I created one based on that write up that I posted, as follows: ECHO. ECHO Installing ZoneAlarm Free 7.0.408.000 ECHO Please wait... start /wait %systemdrive%\install\Applications\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zaZA_Setup_en.exe /s /noreboot And the address would be: C:\XPCD\$OEM$\$1\install\Applications\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm And I put the 'exe' and the batch file into this 'ZoneAlarm' folder. Is this correct? Thanks again for any help you can give me, HK 10/100
  21. Does anyone know if this works: http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/switch/30/ Thanks in advance, Eddie
  22. My two cents. Unless you really need to do it, it might be a good idea to wait until the final. Why do I say this. Well, when I tried sp3 build 3205, I had absolutely no problems or issues whatsoever. Period. The computer worked great. However, everytime I tried sp3 rc1, build 3244, it keeps booting me off my Internet connection. I have tried four slightly different setups, but mostly the same as the one I have used for "3205". I was trying different 'addon's and a couple of times I was trying to add some drivers. Net result, I'm back to using "3205", with all the different "addon's" that I was looking for to make work in the first place. Thank goodness for DVD-RW's. LOL. Not to mention the fact I keep seeing posts of folk's having various issues. It is, afterall, still in 'Beta' phase. That's it. The end. Good luck in whatever you decide. Eddie
  23. Thanks for suggestion, however I do already have Ad-Aware & Spybot as stand alone scanners, and the issue wasn't so much about ZA's anti-spyware, since I got it free, but ZA's firewall, which of course is also free. They being one and the same, the issue was how to install it 'silently'. Thanks again, Eddie
  24. Zone labs had a one day “give away” for Zone Alarm Anti-spyware, which can be found here: http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/cat...u_list_zaas.jsp , if you click on the ‘Download Trial’. From past experience, I know that the regular ‘free‘ zone alarm firewall will install with the following switches: /s /noreboot , however you get a pop up that says: “Could not find Config File C:\Documents“. Once you click ‘OK’, the unattended install will continue, and za will install. Of course you no longer have an “unattended” install. LOL. Anyone know of a way around this issue. The regular, free firewall for za can be found here: http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/cat...=US〈=en I assume whatever works for one will work for the other. I did see something on their website that may suggest: /s /noreboot /pwinstset Thanks in advance for any suggestions or guidance, Eddie
  25. Thanks. I did what you said. Just to be clear, I don't need the 'rest' of the contents of my 'system driver' that I had previously extracted? And, finally, hopefully, I don't have to pick the drivers for integration, in any particular order? Or rename them? Thanks again, BikinDutchman.
